I asked my MIL if she wanted to go with me on Friday to drive up to PA to bring home DD. Wow MIL got so excited. :bounce: She has never been up to a college before. She is almost 80. I know that she has wondered where her grand daughter is and how she is living. This my DD first year of college and she is doing well.

So DD doesn't know that I am bringing GrandMa. not going to tell her. I called the college and I will be able to take MIL on a tour of the college and even to eat there. I think she will be so pleased, especially when she see's the Church on campus. Cabrini here come's MaMa "C" that is what dear DD calls GrandMa.

I feel so good that I am taking her. :)

My mother brought my grandparents with her to visit me once when I was a freshman. It never occurred to me that they had never been to a college before, but I'm sure they hadn't. I was the first person in my family to go to a 4-year-college, so it was a big deal. Two of my aunts and uncles (and cousins) came to my graduation. That was a huge graduation at a major university and they drove at least four hours to get there. Is that not great?

My in-laws, who have been to LOTS of colleges (They both have advanced degrees and he has served on at least three college boards) have visited my son at college. You know, my parents (especially my mother) would probably like that, too. I'll have to arrange it -- thanks for the idea!

Are you sure you don't want to "warn" your daughter. It is nice to be surprised. But she may want to be prepared. I let my boys know before we or my parents visited them at school. You some times don't know what their room looks like or if there are posters or something that grands wouldn't approve of.

It is so nice of you to take your MIL. Mine was totally uninterested. She's my boys step grandmother and didn't attend either graduation even though we would have taken her.

Dear Jx3 My DD is also a step grandchild, but the only grandchild. Poor MIL never had any grandkids before my DD, they are very close. MY DD knows that I am coming up to get her. Thank God DD is a clean/neat freak, so Not worried about the college dorm. I am so excited for the two of them. But maybe a hint to DD would not be a bad idea....

AAwwwww! your daughter is so lucky to have a nice mom like you! as well as your mother in law!! I wish my grandma would have come to visit me @ school. Unfortunately she got sick after I was there for about a year and isn't able to take long trips anymore, but it would have been great. We did video tape the whole graduation ceremony so she could watch, and she LOVED It!

tricia.

I brought my mom up to school when we dropped my son off for his freshman year. She was thrilled!
