The last several years I have been saying I want to start our vinca flowers in the house from seeds, rather than buying them at the nursery.

We have a very long flower bed along our front walk, and it costs a fortune to buy all the little plants.

I started googling vinca seeds, and how to germanate them. It seems they are a complicated flower to start from seeds. Very particular about heat and light.

Has anyone had any luck starting vincas from seeds?

Thanks for your help!!

Mine used to self seed with no effort on my part. But that meant I did not pull up the plants at the end of the season.

Same here. We bought some one year and they self seeded every year after that. We had quite the display of vinca by the time we moved.

Another challenge in starting Vinca from seed is water..... when in containers (like starter pods) this is a plant that typically doesn't recover from being overwatered.

Could you start out with smaller plants, which should cost less? They'll catch up size wise if your growing conditions are good. Is there any place that sells them by the flat or at least in multi-packs?

Thank you all for your input!

We plant them along the sidewalk from our driveway to front porch. I can't let them go to seed unfortunately. By the end of fall it looks like a sad flower graveyard, and they must be pulled.

I do buy the flats of the small plants. Maybe I will need to call around for better prices, or plant fewer and space them out more. They do fill in nicely, so we might be able to get by with less plants.

Thanks for your help!
