Anyone ever skip waterparks?

We have always done the water parks every trip and its always been summer but this year we're not. We just want to relax by the pool. The waterparks are fun fun fun but they are hot hot hot too. I couldn't even relax in a chair for more than 15 minutes and I'd have to get wet again and depending on where you're sitting that could be a walk. And no they aren't restful if you're looking for a rest day. AND CROWDED!!
No this summer we're enjoying the pool

hi, i would never skip the waterparks as they do offer a chance to relax while the kids go mad on the slides etc. i am in a panic as i've just read that typhoon lagoon will be closed THROUGH 3rd december does that mean it's closed up till that date or does that mean it closes for refurb ON othat date? am going med november for 2 weeks and will bitterly disappointed if my 10 year old doesn't get a chance to swim with the sharks again which was a real highlight for him last year. please help

Another family that has never done the water parks here!

Perhaps it was the fact that we always had little ones...trying to figure out where to take a family of 6 kids was hard. Trying to watch so many different ages made it too hard for me to think of taking them all.

Now the "little" one is 6...perhaps on our next trip it would be something new & different for us. But the hotel pools are sooo relaxing...not travel time, just run up to the room to shower & change & you are off to the next park for the evening...

on second thought...maybe we won't be going to a water park next time...

Our family has never done a water park. DS6 just loves the pools!! If your kids don't care one way or the other, I don't think I would worry about going.
We are usually only there for 6 nights and 5 days--don't really have the time to go to a water park!! :flower:

I couldn't tell you the last time I went to a water park. Actually, I think I have only been to one (Typhoon Lagoon) one time. It just isn't a priority for me. I would much rather be at the other theme parks.

Thanks for all of your replies! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one! I just would rather veg at the hotel on my non park days...I think between the animals and the pool with slide the kids will be happy enough. If we completely wear ourselves out we'll never be able to make the drive back to NY. Thanks again!

Never been, think the pools are fine for young kids and gives us a chance to relax. Look forward to trying them when kids are a little older but don't think it will be as relaxing as pooltime. I'll have to wait in line with the kids and there is no fastpass. Think waterparks are really idea when you have older kids that can go have fun while you stay in the lounge chair, we're just a long way from that.

We have done Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach and liked them both. But normally we do not do the water parks, on our down days we hang out at the resort pool or Downtown Disney.

I know I'll be in the minority here but I've NEVER been to any of the WDW water parks!! I've just been to busy trying to cram things in the parks! Now that we're DVC members and I know we'll be going back again and again, we're going to take the time and go.

Me too! We have NO desire whatsoever to spend our WDW time at a waterpark!

I think it was closed for a bit in Dec 2004 for refurbishment. Not sure though.

I don't think we'll do a waterpark. We live in the same state as "The World's LArgest Water Park", so there is no need, really!

We go in Jan or Feb and its usually too chilly for a water park, besides the hotel pool seems to work just fine for the kids right now. Maybe when they are older and don't need to supervised as much as now we might, but I doubt it. We aren't waterpark kind of people. DH doesn't even swim when we go. I do so the kids can have supervision but I would rather not. Too chilly for me. LOL

We've skipped them the past two trips, and plan to for the next two. Our 3 sons are 5, 3 and almost 1, and while they are little like this, the resort pool is plenty of fun for them...and for us. We just don't need to do the waterparks right now. When dh and I went to WDW on our honeymoon, we absolutely did one (Typhoon Lagoon) and we love it there! And as our boys get older, I'm sure we'll start going to them again. :)

We went to the waterparks for the first time in 7 yrs during our July visit....I just didn't enjoy them when my kids were younger (we tried it once 7 yrs ago and i didn't like it with 4 young kids). But we go again at the end of March and it will we warm so we are going to go again...

But for many many trips we managed just fine without visiting the water parks

We have done exactly what you're planning to do. No water parks just the pool. The kids won't notice and you get to relax. Go and enjoy!!

This was our experience! Our family tends to love water parks and the kids are strong swimmers, but TL in August was just too crowded and too hot to be enjoyed. The theming was absolutely beautiful, but even the tube ride around Cataway Creek wasn't restful -- so many teenagers running through it! Swimming with the sharks and the wave pool were both very unique, but I would be tempted to pass on another summertime visit to TL. Maybe the off-season (or just a very early morning in-and-out visit) would better suit my idea of a relaxing time...

The only water park at WDW that I've been to is River Country, and that was when I was in High School! It's since closed down. If I went for more than a week, I'd surely visit one!

I haven't been to one of the water parks since the mid-90s?!?! I went to Typhon Lagoon. That was the last time. DH has never been to the water parks.

We will probably go next time (not this coming trip). DS will be about 3ish then. But then again we may skip it again. Water parks in WDW are not top on our list.

My kids LOVE the waterparks. We go at least twice per trip. You could just go for part of a day and then do a park later on or earlier. They are really lots of fun.

We've skipped them so far because there's just so much to see and do. Now that we've been to WDW a few times, we're finally going to hit a water park on the next trip. For your first trip, I wouldn't waste my time...especially since you have access to them at home and your kids don't care.
