Hi, We received a phone call yesterday from a company called Finders Keepers They left a message that stated they found us money in such & such Bank to please call them. Has anyone ever gotten money from them. They are in the local area and not from overseas. LOL Can't I just call the bank they named and find it myself?

I really got into unclaimed funds in state treasuries about a year ago and found all sorts of money for my siblings (not big amounts, but still...it was previously unclaimed). I can't remember the URLs, but it is fairly easy to search for unclaimed funds online. Sounds like the money was probably turned over to a state treasury? I have never heard of FindersKeepers, but be *careful*...I think this kind of business is rife with scams. That being said, it is entirely possible that FindersKeepers is a legitimate broker for this information, but they *will* charge you a finders fee or a percentage. Why should you pay someone money for information when you can find that information yourself for free?

A couple of things...
Google FindersKeepers.
Do a GoogleGroup Search for that name. If people have had bad experiences it usually shows up in Google Groups.

Let me see if I can dig up those URLs or reconstruct them...hmmm...will poke around the Internet and see what I can find for legitimate resources that you can use.
agnes!

I never heard of them, but I did once find money for both my FIL and Uncle.

I wish I could remember the website that I used to research the family names. Hopefully someone else can help with that.

Try this one. It is free.

I've gotten my unclaimed money back before. I had an account as a teen, then I moved and forgot all about the money. Heard about finding unclaimed money and there it was. It was like $200 and something.

But, you definately DON'T have to pay for it and any place that tells you that you do is a SCAM!!

Organizations like Finderskeepers do internet searches for you for unclaimed money and then take a cut of what they find. YOu can do the same thing for yourself for free and keep all of the money you find. I found some money for my Dad that way once--he didn't give me a finder's fee though :lmao: .

OH CRUD!! My crazy Uncle has two more accounts. He drove me crazy the last time I helped him with this.

So when are you taking all of us to WDW ;) ?

Yep, this is correct. My husband got a letter notifying him he had unclaimed money, he looked for himself online, printed out the info the state wanted and within a month or so he got over $400 back.
