Anyone ever had this issue with deciding on which resort to stay at?

It looks like we are going to WDW in September. It will be my mom, my 2 year old daughter and me. I called and got rates for Polynesian and WL. I want to stay at the Polynesian and my mom wants to stay at WL. It will be for 6 nights and we are not interested in a split stay. WL was something like $1,070 and Polynesian was $1,368 with a postcard rate. I like the idea of having 2 pools and the monorail. She seems to like the theme of the WL as opposed to the Polynesian theme. Have you ever had different ideas of where you want to stay than others in your party?

One question: who is paying???:earseek:

Otherwise - mother knows best!

But seriously...guess it all depends, besides on who is paying which seems important, on how often you've both been, where you've stayed (have you both stayed in those hotels so these are return visits, etc). Outside of those issues, if everything else is equal...toss a coin or compromise! Sounds like a great trip either way.

Gosh, that's a tough one! Those are my two favorite resorts!! What we've decided to do is to stay at WL in the winter and the Poly in the summer. But Sept. falls somewhere in between...

Still, I think a winter holiday visit to the WL is the best, and pretty much any other time I'd pick the Poly. Especially with a 2 y/o...you'll be able to appreciate the convenience of transportation from the Poly.

Good luck deciding!

As far as I know we're each paying, unless she decides to surprise me ;) :D. In that case, I would of course go with her choice. I just figured that transportation to MK would be better from the Polynesian with the choice of boat and monorail. I also thought that 2 pools would be a nice choice with my 2 year old who absolutely loves pools and the pathways would be really pretty at night with the torches lit.

How often will you be returning to Disney?
And how often will your mother be joining you?
If it is a one in a lifetime trip for her, I would let her choose.
Personally, I love the Wilderness Lodge and would pick it (and not even worry about the monorail.)
The overall theme of the Poly doesn't impress me, although the pictures of the rooms look lovely in both size and style.
Will you be sharing a room? If so, that would be also be a deciding factor. I hear that the Poly rooms are much larger that WL, and that could make a more comfortable stay for the both of you.
Good luck with your decision.

P.S. The WL has 2 pools also. One on the lodge side and one on the villas side. They are not very far apart.

Sounds like my problem last spring. We were booked in WL until FTP came out. My dd has wanted to do Polynesian for an age, so we upgraded due to the great deal. At the time I just couldn't get excited though with the theming. I really wanted to stay at WL. But now, I can't wait to get to the Polynesian. This is a once in a lifetime stay for us. Next time we'll do WL. Don't forget...if you are only getting one room, WL has just two queens or a queen and bunk-bed. Polynesian has two queens and a daybed. Don't know if that makes a difference.

I just got the postcard yedterday, annd the WL is $109 a night. Is that the rate you are quoting?

The boat ride from WL to MK is fun and not too long, and I really like this resort.:)

I would think this is not a very unusual situation, given the number of different hotels on the property.

In my family, we only agree on two things, if its a moderate it has to be POR (I love this place) and none of us want to stay at the All-Stars (the themes do nothing for me).

When it comes to Deluxes we are all over the place. The Polynesian does absolutely nothing for me. I've heard all of the great reviews and I know its very popular, but the theming leaves me cold. I love the Grand Floridian, but my Mom has no desire to stay there. My Mom loves the Contemporary, which was cool when I was kid, but now doesn't do it.

So we are both trying Wilderness Lodge on seperate trips this year (then if we like it maybe we'll agree on a deluxe next time:p ).

For 6 nights in September at WL I was quoted $729 for a standard room and $1,070 for a courtyard view. This is for 2 adults and one infant (my daughter is 2). The postcard said deluxe from 109.00** per night.
