Anyone ever fly Song Airlines

Song is owned by Delta and it is the airlines we are using to fly to Orlando. I found out today that you have to buy your food on the plane. Drinks are free however. They do not offer a huge choice and the flight is long (5 hours) and I am wondering if I can bring my own food.

They are also going to have at your seat satellite TVs but it says "by early 2004" and I wonder if some planes might already have it and if this plane doesn't if they have some sort of entertainment. They do offer all leather seats which is nice and good leg room so it should be comfortable anyway.

Thanks for any info you might have.

Melora--we fly them in January, so I am no help, but I do know there are lots of folks over on the Transportation Board who have flown with them and might have some more insight.

My friend flew them last week from Atlanta to NYC and said that there were no televisions installed.

This sounds similar to Jet Blue. All leather seats, 24 channels of direct TV, more legroom...and I'm a BIG fan of Jet Blue :)

My brother and his wife flew out here from California on Song. They didn't have any complaints about the airlines.

Yes, you can bring your own food on Song flights. They just sell their food in lieu of giving out meals that no one really likes anyhow.

My brother and family will be flying them this month, and if I search around... maybe I can find a review to include here.

No luck- sorry. But the reviewer was pleased with the increase in leg room, wider seats, all leather, and did bring her own food.

I've brought my own food on Delta though..... no big deal.

Thanks for the info guys!

I am wondering if they do not have the TVS installed if they play movies at all.... or if there is no entertainment at all. It doesnt matter too much because we dont usually buy the headphones... but after the movie they usually have some free TV thats nice.

I guess we will find out in 3 days!

I flew on Song from Boston to Orlando in August (and will be flying them again this week). I thought they did a fantastic job. The flight crew was very nice and personable. They are the friendliest flight crew I've ever had! Be ready for Song aerobics and/or a singalong on the flight. Something is bound to happen.

The seats are about the same as I've always had on a plane. A bit crammed, and not overly comfortable. I had exit row seats both ways. Row nine is an exit row seat with enough leg room to stretch my legs to full extension The window seats in row ten are like that as well.

They do sell food on the planes. They sell candy, chips, crackers and cheese, turkey sandwiches, and chicken caesar salad. I got the crackers and cheese on my flight down, and I believe it cost about $4. Lately, the only flights I've taken when they've given food (other than peanuts or pretzels) on the flight are shuttle flights between Boston and New York and Boston and Washington, DC.

They didn't have the tv screens on the plane when I flew on them in August. I don't know if they have them on the Boston planes yet. I guess I'll find out in a few days.

The planes are all old Delta jets so they will be converted slowly. It's kind of catch as catch can whether you will get a new one or an old one. Actually I think selling the food is great! It's fairly reasonably priced and sounds a heck of a lot better than the junk they hand out. Here's the menu:

served on flights departing before 9:30 am

Honey Wheat Deli Bagel $3: Available with jam and, of course, cream cheese
Stonyfield Farms Yogurt and Natursource Granola $3: Mountain Crunch Granola and yogurt
Breakfast Sandwich $6: Turkey on whole wheat croissant with cream cheese and mango jam

lunch & later
served on flights departing after 9:30am

Niman Ranch Roast Beef Fajita Wrap $8: Roast beef with grilled red pepper, organic romaine, sautéed onions, cilantro and organic cheddar cheese. Served in a jalapeno flat bread with a hint of salsa and cumin scented sour cream.
Asian Chicken Salad $7: Ginger marinated sliced chicken breast, romaine, Napa cabbage, shredded carrots, water chestnuts and mandarin oranges. Served with a sesame ginger vinaigrette.

all day choices

Fruit and Cheese Snack $4: Triangle cut domestic cheddar and Swiss cheese wedges, with red seedless grapes and hearty crackers
Odwalla Super Protein™ Bar $3
Lunchables $3: Meat, cheese, and crackers

Fly Song for the first time in 2 days. (hopefully at this time on Thursday we will be happily flying in the air with Song). I have no problem paying for food because half the time I didn't want the crappy food they were serving any way. A drink is fine.

Will try to post reviews on Song when I get back.

<font color=navy>I used Song when I went from Los Angeles to Orlando at the end of September this year. I didn't realize that it was an economy flight (though when the fare was less expensive than Southwest, I should've figured  ). After settling in, and realizing what kind of flight I was on, I enjoyed it (though having the tv screens will be really nice when they're installed). I ordered the cheese/cracker/fruit plate, and I actually liked that better than having the normal snacks. A lot of people also brought food on the airplane that they had purchased at the airport or outside - Subway sandwiches, McDonalds, etc. The flight attendants were very friendly and attentive, and kept coming by to pick up trash.

My co-worker just flew Song this past week and was very pleased with this airline.

We flew Song in June and then again last month. What an improvement! We really appreciate all the extra leg room. Alex has listed all the food and drinks available - on the way back from Orlando we bought some food at the airport to bring along.

Do be aware that Song is not your typical airline! At least on our flights from Boston to Orlando we have had some wonderful people working. If you are used to very serious flight attendants then you will be surprised by these folks. We had one named Dean who had people laughing so hard one guy almost choked! (Another flight attendant told us that Dean also works at Pleasure Island)

We had no tv screens but they did say they were coming in 2004. During our flight in June they were lending out gameboys but we didn't see this in November.

Have a great flight!

Jill
