Anyone else think Tony's in the MK is awful??

I wouldn't say Tony's is awful, I just don't think it's memorable.

As for Italian cuisine, you can prepare the same at home with a jar of Prego sauce. Tony's seems more like a chain Italian restaurant than what was once considered a Disney signature diing experience.

The best meal Tony's ever had was their breakfast. I wish they would bring it back.

This definitely sums up our feelings on Tony's. We have had dinner twice and were unimpressed with the food both times. But we loved the atmosphere and service and I do love Lady & the Tramp.

We are going to try lunch next trip and avoid the red sauce. Hopefully we will get a table outside to people watch. If not, it is nice inside as well.

Honestly, as with most things in our lives, it's personal choice. I have to say, though, that this is the only restaurant on Disney property that we won't visit again. We've been there twice and both times we were unhappy either with the service or the food. We're are really easy to please, and I think for the quantity of food and for the many people they feed, Disney does a pretty darn good job!

Now im worried!!! I've had my ADR here for our last night in the world... but we've never ate here, or The Plaza... think we should try the Plaza if it has an ADR left????? :confused3

I'm not a fan of Tony's but here's what I think. Give it a try. That's the only way you'll find out if you like enough to go back, or take it off your list. It all depends on what you're looking for for dinner. I think Plaza's good for lunch or an early dinner, it has good sandwiches and great desserts, and overlooks the Castle. Major plus. Tony's restaurant itself just oozes charm, it really does, there's not a dud table in the place, if you walk down to the back of the building before your ressies there's plenty to see and photo ops as well. Last year I had steak which was fairly decent and the kids stuck with Italian which was a mistake. But TRY it - at least once. Only you know your likes/dislikes and the decision should be yours.

It seems that most of the complaints I've read are in regards to the Italian entrees on the menu (which I know is most since it's an Italian rest.) We've got ressies there on our last night, before Spectro and Wishes in August. We decided to keep the ADR despite the reviews. Would it be safer to order a steak or something instead of the Prego-like sauce and Meatballs or another Italian dish?

We kicked around switching our ADR to The Wave, but they don't serve until 5:30, so we'd lose 1/2 hour with the ADR time and another few minutes in travel time on our last night.

I actually thought that Tony's was really good! We went right before Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and I had the spaghetti, which I thought was delicious!

We've eaten @Tony's 3xs (2002, twice in 2007...) we really enjoyed it the first two times...slightly disappointed the last time (December 2007) but still going back in September. DH and myself each order a house salad and share the spaghetti and meatball entree...DS (9yo) likes the fettuccine alfredo...and we loved watching Spectro Magic from the porch!:goodvibes

What time was your ADR, & were you seated inside or out? We have a 6:55 ADR on a night that Spectro is at 8pm. Is that good timing? Do you know, if we'll be able to go onto the porch to view the parade, if we aren't seated outside? Also, was your DD's fettuccine alfredo on the kids menu or regular menu? I prefer pasta w/ cream sauce, & like it just as good, maybe better, w/o seafood, chicken, etc. Sorry, for all the questions. :blushed: As you've most likely guessed, we've never eaten there. :p

One last question..... Does anyone know, if you're allowed to order flatbread at dinner? I know it's not on the menu. TIA for your help. :)

I'm not difficult to please at all, in fact the joke is that I'll eat anything if it's made for me:thumbsup2

But this restaurant was seriously horrific. I wished I would have just had
counter service instead.

I held off on eating here because of the reviews, then in March, 08, we needed a restaurant at MK and I thought I would try something new, give it a try.

Nothing about this restaurant was good. The wait for checking in was ridiculously long, it looked like a no adr line, but it was for adrs! Then, the server was completely forgetful and seemed to be just going through the motions. Another person who worked there, yelled (literally) at me about a new Pirates restaurant that would be opening up (because I was wearing a pirates shirt). Normally I would like info like that, but this guy just came up to me and yelled the info at me. It was very odd.

Then the food. Wow. Flavorless and too much of it. What a waste of food and $$$.

There seemed to be a lot of b-days there too, which I felt sorry for them having that be their b-day meal.

Overall, would never go back until I hear things have improved. I wonder why other restaurants in WDW are so good and this one is so bad!!

Wow Carol we had the exact opposite experience in March 08 at Tony's. We loved our dinner there. The food was terrific, the atmospher was lovely, and the service excellent. We went there for my DH's birthday and they had decorated the table for us with Mickey confetti and ribbons. We enjoyed the meal so much we went back a second time during our trip.

I seriously held back on ripping on this place, because I know every person's tastes aren't the same and anyone can go to the same place twice and have different experiences. But, this experience was so bad, I had to say something. I love MANY restaurants at WDW, in fact, the dining is a big part of our trip/planning. Tony's was a tremendous letdown. In fact, I'm not sure I've really disliked ANY other restaurant in all of Disney World, except this one. Some have been great, some just ok, but never bad, until this one.

This is the 1st I've read of a new Pirates restaurant. Do you have any more details you could share? TIA :)

We finally ate at Tony's earlier this year with another couple.
Out of us four adults, I was the only who thought my food was good. (I did have something different than anyone else.)
I don't think anyone is in a hurry to return.
If I had my choice between the Plaza and Tony's, I would take Tony's any day. I would go to a counter service before the Plaza. That is just over priced counter service to me. I think the worse burger I ever ate in WDW was at the Plaza. Never returned after that.

We went last week and enjoyed our meal. It wasn't awful at all. Maybe it's because I'm not picky, I don't know. I do know that the tirimisu (sp?) was wonderful!

I hesitated to add one more bad review for Tony's (given its harsh critics), but I could not urge someone enough to stay far away - expensive dog food with a slice of lukewarm cellophane cheese on top. For excellent food, service, and view, consider walking over to CA Grill for dinner!

I agree with other posters -- every restaurant in WDW is at least worth a try; what someone else says is yuck may turn out to be your best meal. We are trying Tony's for the first time this June. I have also always avoided it because of the bad reviews so I guess I am going in with low expectations -- that way, if it is as bad as some say then I won't be disappointed and if it is better than some say then I won't be disappointed :)

Take a frozen, breaded "veal" pattie, cover it with Ragu sauce and serve it over slightly over cooked spaghetti.

This is the Tony's 'dining' experience.

Is it inedible ? No. Is it overpriced ? You bet.

Tony's occupies such a prime location in the MK I wish it could be turned into a great restaurant. Maybe someday it will be.

Whew, now I feel better. I was getting worried, when someone said the sauce was like Prego.

That wouldn't do!

I'm a Ragu girl. :rotfl:

I'm all for improvement. :thumbsup2

I think the problem here is that everyone is eating food with that nasty Disney tomatoe sauce that Disney buys by the 50 gallon drum. That stuff is nasty.

Last time we ate at Tony's I had some kind of steak with a Port wine reduction and it was so good I went home and re-created it myself...AMAZING. The Mrs. got a pistachio creme brule that was out of this world. We left the red sauce crud to the kids.

Oh Thank You! I've got an ADR for our vacation, in less than a month. Nowhere else can handle the 9 of us (extended fam) for that time frame/night. Believe me, I called after reading the bad reviews!

I'll just tell the adults to stay away from the red sauce. I've made ALL the dining plan ADRs (10 different TS) for the entire group. My mom/sis/bro gave me NO input, so opinions are going to be shot my way :confused3 . We are going to Tony's on our 1st night, I would hate to start the trip with complaints :scared: .
