Anyone else seeing obviously fake stories on social media meant to cause fear?

I saw an obviously fake story this afternoon on Instagram that was so plainly meant to scare people and all I thought was, "Here we go," anyone else seeing nonsense?

It was a middle age man, dad type, showing a video of a supposed giant submarine that just popped up in shallow water just off Myrtle Beach - OK sure :rotfl2: As if the only group to show up at such a time would be the Coast Guard with one tiny boat? Dad man was talking about the area being cleared out, shows a mom type leaving the beach and there was a video pan over to a few golf carts being the only vehicles left in the parking lot, no cars, and someone hanging out of a helicopter on a rope ladder or something maybe to get a better look and then, the big moment a big black shadow in the water. Come on, my junk TV series do better than this.

Now I'm just searching looking for more fake scary stories with stereotype Americans

What's way more likely is that some fool saw a school of baitfish and thought he was looking at a submarine, called the Coasties, and they were obligated to come prove him wrong.

There actually are a fair number of wrecked WW2 German u-boats sunk off the OBX; there was an area there called Torpedo Alley during the war.
