Anyone else miss the challenge of the old fast passes?

The current challenges of making an ADR for BOG, or getting an FP for A&E or Wishes or 7DMT seem to overshadow any challenges associated with the old system. Running? I don't remember having to run anywhere to get an FP, we'd just get one on the way on or off an attraction but I guess some people felt like they needed to run. I think I actually spent more time looking for and waiting in line at an FP Kiosk then I ever did getting an old FP.

I do like that I can reserve some FP's for later in the evening and only have to spend a couple of hours in the park if that's all I want to do; that certainly wasn't possible before since we couldn't pick our times.

I miss the old paper tickets because the ones I did not use turned into great souvenirs, but as someone who travels with a disabled guest in a wheelchair, I don't miss the old system at all!

I miss it. It kept me trim. I used to never gain weight on my Disney vacation. Now I do.

I was just thinking the same thing. I loved that I could eat like a pig, and still come home a few pounds lighter. 10 miles a day will do that for you. I never had any issue power walking to the FP machines. It was just part of the quest.

Nope. I like it this way. Some people say they loved giving people fast passes and spreading the magic. The real magic would be if everyone was on an even playing field at Disney. As soon as one loophole is closed another opens up. We did not go too often in the paper fast pass days and we were the chumps that did not game the system.

Yeah, I don't think anyone meant that literally. Like you, I have only on VERY rare occasions seen someone actually running through the parks, and they stood out like a sore thumb. (even at Rope Drop for TSMM or Soarin back in the day of paper FP's)

I know I am not the minority here, but I really like the new FP system. I have always been a planner and it makes it so much easier on me. I can plan our days schedule rides and know that we are going to be able to ride them. I remember back in the nineties waiting hours in line for rides on hot summer days. Granted we don't go in the summer, spring now, I love not waiting for the rides I want most. I did not like standing in line, getting fast passes ect.

OP--I totally get what you're saying! It was fun! And I do miss it, thought I'd hate the new system. But actually really loved it. It was nice to know I already had my Toy Story FP and didn't have to worry about the mad dash! We could even go to the park later in the day and know we'd be able to ride it. That part is cool. And you can actually still get some of that "thrill" with the fourth and subsequent FPs! In MK, we used 8 FPs in one day. Use three, get another, ride something while waiting, as soon as we're off, back to the kiosk for another, etc. Or in Epcot, we used one, moved another up, were able to get another later. So there is still some of that game involved! And we never saw lines at the kiosks for additional FPs like others complain about. At most 1-2 people ahead of us.

Our last trip was Dec '13 when Fp+ was in its early stages. At that time I was able to pre-book 3 Fp+ and had the magic bands...Plus we were given cards for the regular Fp legacy, machines at that time all over the Parks. It was the best trip ever!! SO, I'm a little unsure of my strategy to max out the number of rides we love. Yours was one of the few positive comments I've found on the system. I am encouraged since I will be visiting during historically low crowd levels in September.

Nope I don't. I love that I can make them for x day and decide which time I want to FP instead of it telling me.

I also have no clue how someone who doesn't know anything about Disney can book fp+.

My in-laws are 66/67 now. They have gone to Disney every year for the last 10 years. They pulled out of a 35K contract for DVC because of FP+. They love the magic bands, but the FP process is too much for them. They have a laptop and Disney login and the understand how to use it, but they dont like all of the planning ahead if they want fastpasses. Looks like Disney went out to Message Boards, like this, and read comments by all of these people who plan everything down to their poop break and made the assumption that is how everybody does Disney. First time visitors leave saying it was a horrible vacation because they didn't know ahead of time (more room for us planners, right? ), people who are not tech savvy dont like it for the obvious reason and others say it is too much planning to book rides, meals, characters, etc. It is great for those who like it, but truly, outside of the percentage on these boards, I wonder how many really think it is a great tool??

I never saw the old system as a challenge, TBH. For us, the "challenge" is FP+. I miss the ease and less planning we did under legacy.

So you miss the lower crowd days? I would too if I had ever been fortunate enough to visit then.

I dont get the "too much planning" arguement.

Just like FP-, you dont have to use it at all, or book in advance if you dont want to. You can treat it like old FP and obyain them once you arrive.

If you're going to WDW you must have some reason for wanting to go.
Pick 3 things you might think you want to do. Thats it.
And, guess what...you dont gave to use your FP+ reservations.

Most people plan the dates, flight, hotel room, and possibly ADR's in advance.
All of those thingpl require much more "planning" than FP+.
