Anyone else have a goal to stay at every resort?

When my husband and I took our first trip to Disney together back in 1997 (before we were married), we joking said our goal was to stay at every resort on Disney property.

Many years later, we’ve come close to that - the only reason we haven’t succeeded yet is because Disney keeps adding DVC resorts! We’ve now stayed at every property except several of the Villas added on to existing properties: Copper Creek (but will in December), Riviera (but will in November or latest in April), Bay Lake Towers, Polynesian Villas (but will in December), and Grand Floridian Villas. Which means that if our travel plans go accordingly in December and April, we’ll only need to stay at BLT and GFV and we’ll have done every property, both hotel and villa side, from Value to Deluxe, in WDW.

(We also have a goal of visiting every Disney Park. I’ve been to WDW, DL, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Just need Paris and Shanghai! We’ve also been to Aulani and Vero Beach, but not yet Hilton Head. In Disneyland, we've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian (both hotel side and DVC side), but not Paradise Pier. In Tokyo, we've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and Hotel MiraCosta, but I stayed offsite at Hong Kong.)

My DH asked me: So what is our new goal (for WDW) once this is done?

I did point out that many of the hotels have gone through refurbs since we’ve stayed at them - we were last at CBR in 1999, for example - and some, like All Star Music, have new room categories.

Of course we’re now DVC members so unlikely to stay in the hotels again, unless doing a cheap cash stay for arrival night (we tend to come down on Friday nights). So I proposed our next long term goal should be to stay in every room category type in every DVC resort.

Anyone else done this? Is this crazy on our part? ;-)

Like you I DID have a goal to stay at as many Disney hotels as possible. And when we first joined DVC in 2002, we thought we'd stay in every DVC resort. But I'm afraid Kidani is the newest we've stayed at (technically Polynesian is newer to DVC, but the buildings are older). But now that we're a lot older, we tend to stick with the same ones-BCV and OKW.

I've stayed in all the DVC resorts except for CCV. (783 nights total so far.)

And I've been to all the Disney parks except for Shanghai. It's been 11 years since the last time I was to a non-U.S. Disney park, so I'm not sure if I'll ever make it to Shanghai.

When we first bought DVC in 2006 we had that plan. Bought OKW because it was cheapest buy in at that time and we planned to bop around trying them all. We did start off doing that...saying 'okay, whats next. But along the way we kind of started to stick with our preferred resorts.

We are close to completion though. We have stayed at every east coast DVC except VGF and RR. Have had them both booked at various times too but ended up cancelling. Had RR for a few nights in May and got cancelled.

We found we prefer BWV out of all. For 2 reasons....1) location within walk to 2 parks and tons of dining venues with Epcot being our fave Park....2) standard view point cost is a great great deal for a DVC room especially with the great location and....3) we own 255 points there now.

We still bop a bit. We like AKV and SSR. I still want to try VGF but DH hates being near the MK with all the families with strollers since we are empty nesters now. And I want to try RR too and we likely will. I think I can convince DH on that but just a couple nights of a split stay likely because he hates the point eater resorts and RR is as us VGF. So it will be tough to complete my goal but I think we will.

Not every Disney resort, but I would love to stay at every DVC resort at least once, as well as a GV at every DVC resort. I used to think I wanted to go to every Disney park, but I've been to the ones I care about the most and I'm not too concerned about making it to the HK or Shanghai parks. If going international I think I'd rather go back to Tokyo... their parks are so good, not to mention I love visiting Japan.

The Mystic Mansion ride at HK is so good, it’s a worth a visit just for that. But otherwise, it’s not really that different, especially now that Toy Story Land exists in WDW.

But otherwise I agree so much. Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea are just amazing, and I cannot wait to go back again. If I lived on the West Coasg, I’d definitely go more often — especially as Japan is just a wonderful country to visit.

My oldest son was supposed to do a High School Study Abroad in Japan this summer, and I was going to meet him at the end to do a mother/son trip together (we went as a family two years ago). I was going to arrive two days before his classes ended so I could spend two days in the parks! Alas, not this year. His admission was moved to next summer, so fingers crossed we get to go then!

I've heard good things about that ride and would love to check it out one day, as well as HK in general.

I hope your son is able to do his program next summer. Studying/working abroad as a student is such an amazing experience, and how fun if you can do a mother/son trip too. I'd love to bring my kids to Japan when they're a little older.

I don't want to try every resort, but I do want to stay at every DVC. We just need to get into RR. After staying in a time share, a regular hotel doesn't hold an appeal for us.

I'll be trying for RR on Aug 2, keeping my fingers crossed.

In 23 years of owning, we've never had the urge to stay at HHI. Now we have no urge to book Aulani, Copper Creek, Polynesian or Riviera. BWV, a few times, but not many nights. OKW has had the most of our stays. We also own at BRV and used to own at BCV (we'll stay at both). SSR and BLT sometimes. VB we did once and done. We live on an island in SW Florida so we have no need for VB. Our beach is much better. I'm cheap with our points since I like to make them last. We don't need weekends any more with the Weekday ticket (only good Mon through Fri, no summers, no Easter or Christmas).

I'm not a fan of flying, so we'll probably never to the Asian resorts or Paris. We did DLR a few years ago two times - stayed at Paradise Pier and Grand Californian (both stays were before the villas were built).

No need for value resorts, we did all the moderates and all the deluxe except Yacht Club, Beach Club and BWInn.

28 days at Disney per year for 27 years? You’re living the dream!

Every DVC resort yes. Have Vero(going in September), Aulani(was supposed to be September 2021, who knows now), BLT, OKW and Saratoga left.

I'm not a city person, but I loved Hong Kong. It's so easy to get around and so many things to see; I'd go back again in a heart beat!

And I also hope he's able to go next year. I got to Study Abroad in high school and it was a life-changing experience. I've never seen him want something so much and he worked so hard to get accepted onto the program that it was heartbreaking for it to be cancelled. Fingers crossed it's safe again next summer. And I confess, he's 16 now and going into 11th grade, and I really want that mother/son trip before he's completely grown up. I hope you are able to take your kids to Japan. It's a wonderful country and we loved our time there. I really cannot wait to visit again.

We have a goal to stay at many, but not all, DVC resorts. As PP said above, there are a few that don't appeal to us as much. So, if we stay there someday, fine. But we're not going out of our way to book there.

We rarely stay the same place twice and that includes our home resort (Poly). So we decided that we would attempt each FL resort one time, but we aren't counting any of the DVC separate from the main resort. We started way before we became DVC and for us it's just about the general property. We are down to All Star Music and Movies, the tower at Coronado, FW Cabins, GF, Cont and Riv. We definitely have resorts we enjoy more than others but we will eventually get them all in.

I agree, it really is life-changing! I didn't study abroad but I worked abroad in Tokyo during my college years and did some solo travel while there. Such a special experience to immerse yourself in another culture. I'm waiting on international travel now since my kids are so little (baby #3 is still in my belly), but one day we hope to take them to many of our favorite destinations as well as new ones. And of course Disney trips in between!

I do. I figured we wouldn't be able to do the values, since the beds used to be doubles. Now that many of them have queens, I have hope. Also, since I will soon be DVC, it will allow me to stay at those too. We will probably still pay out of pocket for some visits, because we go multiple times a year, usually. I only bought enough points for 1 trip/year, for now.

We've stayed at all DVC resorts (including VB, HH, GCV and Aulani) except Riviera, the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. We have stayed at the hotel portion of those last two though. And we will be at Poly DVC in late August.

While I can justify the higher number of points for GCV and Aulani stays, it just doesn't work for me with Riviera. So that might be a resort I never stay at.
