Instead of making a packing list for our upcoming trip here I sit reading the Dis.:rotfl: Oh well! But I was wondering...... Does anyone else bring new comforters to put on their beds?? I can not bring myself to use the "comforter" that is on the bed at the hotel so I always go and buy two new blankets. For some reason the ones at the resorts "GROSS ME OUT!" Anyone, anyone, anyone else do this?????

Well, I don't go out and buy new ones (especially since that would take up a whole suitecase to itself and we have to pay for every piece of luggage we bring!), but I don't use them either. I usually peal them off leaving them right there on the floor - you really don't want to touch them because they are never washed - they only have to wash the other stuff, but not the comforter. Then I just get the extra, thinner-but-washed covers and pile them on. Usually I have to ask for more because I'm always cold!

I certainly do not cover up with the comforters..they are gross..If I do get cold, I put a sweatshirt on, but that isn't likely...I think there should be alternatives to this...however, I have no idea..my daughter works for a chain of hotels and I guess there is no easy solution...the only place I stay at for vacation is in Lancaster Pa and each time a room is vacated and waiting for new people, they bedspreads are washed.....I know this for sure...maybe someone else will have a solution...

The first time we went to Disney we took a limo to the resort but last time and this time we are renting a car. Last time we had to stop by walmart to grab some things we forgot so I just picked up 2 comforters there. They were only $25 a piece and it was the best $50 spent. I have little kids so they always bundle up under the blankets and I had no worries last time. I was just wondering if there were any other dis'ser out there that did the same thing. Looks like I'm all alone on this one!:rotfl: BUT, I will be stopping by walmart again for those comfy CLEAN comforters.:goodvibes

Nope. I don't bring comforters or buy them. I don't really think about it. You are going to a place that a bazillion people have touched everything and sat on everything. People have coughed, picked their noses (among other things), not washed their hands after the bathroom, not showered at all for that matter and then went swimming in community water (the pool or hot tubs) used your bathroom (even though it is clean it has still been used for pooping etc.- the plane is never scrubbed down and well yuck! So I suppose everything is kind of yucky but no, I have not brought comforters with us. I would however if I remembered ask for new ones just because I like freshly washed things. Didn't mean to gross you out, but everything is yucky.

ETA- new comforters just out of a bag are not clean to me. I wash them at home before they go on the bed.

I agree that pretty much everything is gross! Not trying to debate that fact. I also agree that new comforters out of the bag are not "clean' either. I would not put them on our bed at home without washing them first. BUT I do think that compared to the other option (resort blanket) the blanket out of the bag is much cleaner to me. JMO

I guess that is true.

We don't use the comforters - I pull them off the bed and shove them in the closet as soon as we arrive at any rental place. I would never bother to buy comforters, though - that seems a little extreme to me, and a waste of money (unless you bring them home? - do you have room in your luggage?). I just ask for extra blankets, if needed.

That seems very wasteful to me

If you are concerned about the cleanliness of the blankets, have housekeeping bring you fresh ones and just don't use the comforter. The rooms don't get that cold unless you crank up the AC anyway.

How do you handle the bathrooms and everywhere else in WDW??? I guess I just can't imagine being that afraid of germs ;)

My DH is very hotel room comforter-phobic - first thing he does in any rented room is pull the comforter off & throw it on the floor. Which drives me crazy because I hate clutter on the floor! I just don't think too much about it.

I once saw a story on the news about the comforters in hotel rooms. They say they are the dirtiest/germiest things in the room. Thet say to take them off an put them away...like in the closet or under the bed. My DS thinks I'm nuts now. I even brought a can of Lysol and Cloxox wipes with me and cleaned things before I let the kids touch things. I think I've become more of a germaphobe the older I've gotten!:scared1:

just curious...why would you buy new comforters EVERY time you go to a hotel? Why not bring those same ones from home? Also - do you take them back home w/you? Do you use them at home? You must have a ton of 'new' comforters. It just seems like a waste to me. We have traveled a LOT w/3 kids and so far we haven't contracted any diseases from sleeping in hotels. Like a pp said - the germs are everywhere. They sure don't disinfect those disney rides and seatbelts/harnesses/handles when everyone (with nasty colds) get off prior to us getting on.

I realize the comforters are probably gross, but I also know that the turnstiles/doorknobs/bathrooms/giftshops/restaurants/rides/water fountains/characters etc. etc. etc. may be just as nasty and I don't disinfect my hands each and every minute I come in contact w/one of these at disney or other public places. JMO.

If you have an issue with the resort comforters, call housekeeping and request fresh ones. You'll know they've been laundered!

Since I travel to WDW in December when the weather can be variable--not to mention rooming with my BFF who is part polar bear!--I always call housekeeping and request an extra blanket. The comforters are rather unwieldy, so I just fold it down to the bottom of the bed and use two blankets. :thumbsup2

Actually it is the remote controls & the phones that are the dirtiest things in the rooms. :scared1:

But the comforters are not clean either. We never use them. We take them off the bed & put them in the closets no matter were we stay.

I also bring clorox wipes & wipe things down.

And dont forget the glasses in the rooms. There was a new story not to long ago that showed hotel house keepers cleaning toilets & tubs & then going straight then glasses & sinks without washing their hands & somtimes using the same cleaning products (rags & such). :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

So I always pack a few pastic cups for us to use in hotel rooms also.
