Anyone else Changing Dates because of Jersy Week?

We've always done the October/November thing and it's always been quiet...I think because Halloween falls on a Sunday this year and we have our vacation week starting that weekend that we ran into Jersey week. Halloween was at the end of our vacation last two trips...although we did to Nov 1st to 9th for our Honeymoon in 1997.
So we'll be there October 22nd at FW Cabins (we're driving and usually get to WDW around 5 or 6pm) then October 23rd to November 1st at YC.

Just so you know, you've been to WDW druing a NJ week. Your honeymoon fell during a NJ week.

We like to say Jersey week is crowded so we can get the rude people from Colorado to stay home and not inflict us with their attitude. It spoils our vacation.
Well said!!:cool1: :cool1: NJ always gets a bad rap, and I've lived here all my life. NEVER have I met anyone like people on TV portray someone from NJ.

I figured recently that our Honeymoon had been Jersey Week. We didn't have DS then, so I think the crowds didn't matter as much. We were on the Honeymoon Grand Plan, so Disney pretty much took care of all our details. Who cares about crowds on their honeymoon!!??

A few years ago we there during Jersey week. How did I know? One night at Fantasmic, they announced it. Otherwise, I would not have had a clue. We had a great time there, the crowd was really into the "pre-show". I'm sure it is more crowded than the following week but for us, (always go at Easter) it was a real treat! I say, Embrace Jersey Week and have fun!!

NO where in my post did I even suggest that (any/all) Jersey people were rude, abrasive, arrogant, brusque, whatever…. just a different attitude. Did I say that Westerners were more polite?? NO. We have lived in many different areas around the country. There ARE differences. NO attitude is better or worse – just different.

Years ago, while living in a different area, I worked with a woman born in that town. She had moved to Chicago for a few years before moving back to this small town. When she left Chicago, her dearest friend while living there told her that she just about drove her up a wall when she first arrived because she had a ‘slower’ way of doing things – as opposed to the ‘hustle and bustle’ of life in the big city. Is one way better than the other? NO. Just different.

I’m sure that if someone from NJ were to be in WDW with the vast majority of guests from an area where ‘mosey’ is the norm, they wouldn’t have the best of times.

Actually, it was very easy to tell that we were there during ‘Jersey Week’. First of all the Jersey accent is a giveaway, and then during the Fastasmic pre-show the entertainer asked how many were from different states. There was the usual smattering of applause/clapping as states were mentioned. However, when he asked if anyone was from NJ, the place absolutely erupted. We thought it was odd that SO many were from one state, as we knew nothing then about ‘Jersey Week’.

I imagine that Jersey people are just as happy that we aren’t in their way, as we are happy not to be there. Some people avoid SS weekend (we didn’t have a problem the time we were at WDW during it), others despise the tour groups from other countries…

The OP asked about people changing plans due to Jersey week, I gave my experience. If people are reading into it things that I did NOT say – I can’t help it.

I take offense to the post, too. The tone of your post was pretty obvious. You don't want to be in WDW when it is Jersey Week because of attitude, arrogance, abrasiveness, etc.
You really can't look at stereotypical tv views (like the Sopranos) of what all people from NJ are like. There are warm, wonderful people who live here.::yes::

If you think that you will not have a good time and feel that we really are that offensive to vacation with, it is best that you stay home. We, however, will enjoy the low crowds and nice weather.
Have a nice day!:earsgirl:

One thing I did notice about Jersey week is lots of people wearing black....I guess it's a Northeastern thing.(shrug)

Not too much difference in crowds - but attitude :earseek: . We will NOT be in WDW during 'Jersey Week' again.

Please note that I am NOT saying that there is anything wrong with the 'Jersey' attitude, it is just 'different' from what we, in the more 'laid back' West, are accustomed.

What a dumb thing to say.

Followed up by saying something just as dumb.

This isn't a very smart thing to say either.

What am I reading?? This is the most insane post I have ever read. Has anyone ever been to Jersey - we have no more of an attitude than other people who visit that shove, push and practically sit in your back pocket during the parades. And an ACCENT - are you kidding me:earseek: I plan meetings for a living calling over all the United States and not once has anyone ever said I had an accent. And for the most part neither does most of the people from NJ - stop watching TV and actually venture to the Garden State and you will find hard-working, respectful people who likie and know have to have a good time.

Okay, I'm putting on my flame-retardant suit and getting ready to duck... :duck:

But...Mary Ellen wasn't trying to be rude or insult the fine people of NJ. She mearly stated that when she was in WDW during Jersey week that she noticed a differant attidude of many of the guests. She didn't say these were bad people, just that their attitude differed from the one the people of CO usually have, and prefers to travel at a differant time because of it. In the same post, she did state that she didn't think NJ people were bad, just differant!

I take phone calls from all over the U.S. and Canada, and people from the differant parts of the U.S. do speak and behave differantly, and a lot of times I can tell where they are from before I get their address! My favorite person to speak to (we have regular clients) drives me up the wall because she talks VERY fast and won't let me get a word in edgewise. She's from NYC, and many (not all, but many) people from NYC also talk faster than I'm used to, although I think this caller gets the top prize! I say she is my favorite, because she is a wonderful, nice, friendly, and kind woman. Again, she a wonderful person, but unless I'm very quick on my feet, she rattles off what she wants and hangs up before I can even get to the second sylable of "hello". But I KNOW she isn't being rude, it's just the way she is, and I don't get offended by what would be considered rudeness here in the mid-west. Those from the south east of the U.S. tend to (not all, but more than most) talk a bit slower than what I'm used to here, and again, I don't think it makes them bad people. I just take a deep breath and slow myself down, and realize the call will take just a minute longer than it might otherwise.

Okay, flame away, I'm ready! (I hope). BTW, the only person from NJ I've met in person didn't have an accent that I could detect, nor an attitude differant than my Chicago one. She did have a funny way of comparing car trunk sizes when I was helping her shop for a new car. She said that Saturn's have a two body trunk! I thought it was funny...Also, all I know about the mob is based on the Chicago outfit, not NY/NJ. I don't watch the Sopranos, either.

LOL!! Like pixie71, I am an event planner--and a Jersey girl. I've traveled all over the US and hosted folks from all over as well. Never had anyone tell me I speak with an accent because I don't.

Besides, which accent would that be? Our densely populated little State is home to every ethnicity, nationality and dialect you can imagine.

No matter where I go, I am always amazed at how friendly and warm most folks are, and how shockingly rude a few are.

I'm not going to change my plans because of Jersey week and I already knew it was Jersey week when I planned my trip.

We'll be at WDW from Oct 30 thru Nov 4 and then head to the DCL from Nov 4 thru Nov 7.

I did my research and it doesn't seem like it will be all that bad to me. I bet it will be a piece of cake after my upcoming August trip!!! I know the weather alone will be awsome! I went the last week in October in 2002 and it was the best weather ever!

FYI...I'm originally from NJ and was born and raised there! Do I qualify to scream at Fantasmic when they say "Who's from NJ?"???:teeth:

Wow - eloquently stated.

I'm looking forward to meeting families from Jersey this November. We live in NC- origionally from GA- and are visiting Nov. 2- 5.

I am a real talkative friendly type, and I enjoy talking to/ getting to know people. I think it will be great to talk with some Jersey people- I have friends from all over the country, but I've never met anyone from that state.

You'll know us by our exclamations of, "hey, y'all!"-we look forward to seeing you!

We have visited WDW 3 times during "Jersey Week" . I did not think the crowds were bad. Weekends a little more busy maybe because of Soap Weekend and I loved the Art Festival at DD. The reason we knew it was Jersey week was because the people from NJ seem to be very proud of their state and tell everyone they come in contact with they are from Jersey. I met lots of friendly people from NJ on our trips. Nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from I say!!!! Just think how boring it would be if no one spoke to you during your trip, no one talked to you while waiting in lines or sang with you on the bus when the driver makes you!!!! That is one of my favorite things about going to WDW meeting and seeing and hearing all the different people!

When you use the word attitude-is it ever a compliment?
