This happens everywhere but I have been noticing more and more frequently around the beach access in the early AM hours. I was out on a beachhunting jaunt recently and happened to have the camera along this time. What is upsetting is there is a trash can a few feet away and what the plastic and styrofoam can do to the wildlife in the area. :( Now if we could just catch some those locals on camera sneaking into the pool area. Then we could open up a..

Yes. That absolutely, positively upsets me. If I ever saw someone doing that, I would probably blow my stack.
Then, I will just call you for a can of that stuff you are using! :teeth:

That really urks me. There is no reason for such behaviour. When I see that I pick it up and put it in the trash hoping that by example I will encourage others to do the same.

Disney trivia quiz on this point:

Someone once asked how may custodial workers were employed at WDW. Anyone think they know the answer? Hint. Think about the Disney culture and the values Walt instilled at DL.

I will confirm or provide the answer later.

We stayed only once at Vero back in 1995 and can't remember what species of birds are native to the area...but...here along coastal Maine sea gulls frequently are guilty of removing trash from uncovered receptacles.

Was the trash can covered to prevent birds from scavenging?

It seems odd that someone would take their trash towards the container and stop just short of dropping it inside!

Personally, I have never seen a non-covered trash receptacle anywhere on Disney property. It is possible (but highly improbable) that the can was over flowing, and gargage was hanging out.
I doubt that the resort staff would let the trash get this far out of hand.

Yes, it does seem odd. It could be non-guests who really don't give a hoot.

Trowing trash around is some poor slobs way of showing disrespect for the rest of his fellows.

Do you have a 6pack of that WA?

JimC,

Wasn't Walt asked earlier in the conversation, "How many employees there are?" Then latter, when asked the "How many custodial people are there?" , he answered with the same number he gave to the earlier question:cool:

TiggerFreak,

You got it. Every CM is responsible for keeping the property clean. It is part of their culture and demonstrated everytime leadership and management do exactly that. It extends all the way to the top -- even Michael Eisner. I have not personally witnessed Eisner in the parks, but I have seen other senior management in the parks do exactly that.

On our June Disney trip we took an afternoon to drive to Vero and check it out. We are going to stay there for a few days this fall. Your picture is how I remember. The garbage around the pool area was a real turn-off. It reminded me of a public pool. There were a lot of food plates and napkins on and under the chairs. I wrote it off as a bad day, but maybe not :(

We're still looking forward to going.:)

TiggerFreak We have cases. LOL Like Maistre Gracey stated, the cans are covered. I think what happens is the 1%ers come down to the beach at night and are just too lazy to toss it in the can at the top of the access on the way out.

We saw nothing like that at VB in August and it was full. The property was BEAUTIFUL and we had a wonderful time. CM's were EXTREMELY friendly! I had some room issues that I think were a fluke based on responses from other veterns of the resort who post here so I'd say that that is unusual. In fact, I was impressed with how clean the property was. By the way, say hi to Roberto who does clean up around the pool everyday and always has a smile for guests!

But if I ever do see someone, I'll join the rest of you with the WA!!!
