Anyone Else Anxious About The 2010 DCL Itineraries?

I checked on the ONE WAY ticket from Barcelona to Pittsburgh. TWICE what the lowest cruise costs. YIKES. I think I will wait for the 2011 repo cruise for a long cruise.

Airfare is actually the biggest hurdle for me as well. I could handle the cruise fare itself -- but adding several thousand dollars on top of that to get there is just more than I can swing right now, especially with DD starting college in a couple of years (and DS shortly after).

I'm also bugged by the fuel surcharge thing...honestly, why can't they just include that in the regular fare? I doubt they would credit the charges back if fuel costs ever miraculously went down. There must be some kind of benefit for DCL to classify it that way.

There's no way that we'll be able to go on any of these! Although the itineraries sound really cool!

I'm sure that we'll be heading to China in 2010 anyway...much better than an old Disney cruise ;)

I'd love to do a Baltic cruise but add in airfare and excursions since it is a port heavy trip and it's one hefty price. The other consideration for me is talking someone into to going to avoid the single supplement.

the airfare is the killer...
that's the story for us with the regular florida cruises...
getting to the states is a pocketbook killer...

and getting worse all the time...

Oh well...maybe I've still got Alaska to look forward to in 2011. :thumbsup2

I hear you on this one. We live closer to do an Alaskan cruise too and I was hoping for this as well. The Northern European sounds great but just no way I can do that. Let's keep our fingers crossed that one of the new ships will be making Alaskan cruises.

wow - i just looked at the baltic cruise....wonderful ports of call....

i much prefer the baltic route to the mediterranean route...

i've been to all of those cities, but it's been many years (e.g. last time i was in st petersburg, it was called leningrad and jimmy carter was the president elect)...

to me it's a much more interesting itinerary....

i'm not sure if i would prefer tallinn or helsinki, but they're both nice

the itineraries sound nice but my kids rolled their eyes just now ("where are the beaches?"). The trips are so port intensive. I don't want to have to drag my kids around complaining - and for that price they aren't staying on board!

I wonder how many DVC points :rotfl:

I wonder if they are doing 2 days in St. Petersburg, the problem w/ the Northern European trip is that I've been to Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm and could do without seeing them again.

Wow, the rates for the 14 night trans-atlantic are really good. I would definately want a balcony on that cruise- with all the sea days. I would probably try to use frequent flyer miles, so the airfare doesn't worry me too much, there is still plenty of time to work on that.

We are booking the 11 nt Med. We have never been to Europe, ds will be heading to high school in Sept of 2010, a good age to have some appreciation for the experience. There isn't a way we would rather do it than on a disney cruise ship. We also like how port intensive the itinerary is.

We also plan on adding a couple of days for a stopover in Paris to visit DLP. We agree it is a bit pricey, however we normally do two 7-10 day vacations a year. In 2010 we will do just this one larger trip. We will also start saving now and putting away extra funds.

We are by no means wealthy.....travel is just a priority to us and where we choose to spend our discretionary funds.

I am, unfortunately, frequent flyer mileless. I had quite a few with Delta but decided to use them as soon as possible when the airlines started getting so shakey. Looking at pricing information we might possibly be able to pull this off as a "once in a lifetime" deal...but then I keep wondering how far the total cost would go towards a land only tour instead. Has anyone ever done a comparison? Could we possibly get say three weeks in hotels for what 10-11 days would be on the cruise?

yes, they'll be in st petersburg for 2 days...
they arrive on day 7 at 11:30 am
and leave on day 8 at 10:30 pm...

so it's more like 1.5 days...

in addition to the cities you mention, there's also a day in berlin and a day in either helsinki or talinn (depending on the cruise)..

do you mean visiting europe by land vs seeing it by cruise?..

you can do it relatively cheaply if you stay in hostels, buy your food in little food shops (as opposed to restaurants)....buy a eurailpass...

sort of the backpackers approach...

it will be much cheaper than by cruise, but a very different sort of trip...

but still lots of fun...just different..

if you want to stay in real hotels, europe can be pretty expensive...even bad hotels are often expensive...
and if the dollar's weak, it's worse...

i live in dollars and let me tell you, everything is crazy expensive to us now....

I know there are plenty of "wealthy" folks out there who can enjoy such a cruise, but honestly, those are some seriously steep prices and the airfare will be astronomical. However, this could be a wonderful opportunity for our UK friends.

Do you think Disney will have a hard time getting people to swallow these prices in this economy?

What is really putting me off on the trans atlantic is the airfare home. The cost of the cruise isn't much more than I'm paying for the Podcast cruise and its 3 times longer. But the airfare alone is twice what the cruise costs. And that is looking at prices right now. Who knows what gas is going to cost in a year and a half.

I'll just wait for the Panama Canal repo in 2011. Flying home from California won't be nearly as much as flying home from Barcelona.

Often, booking a return fare from Europe is cheaper than a one way. Just don't use the return ticket.
