Anyone else annoyed?......

Personally, I like the idea of paying for the DDP in advance. We had a few problems with it being charged to our account several times in the past. :confused3 And apparently, it was quite difficult for some of the check in CMs to fix it. So, if it's paid for before we arrive, then the system will never mistakenly charge me for it in the middle of my vacation.

However, I do understand how you feel. I believe the suggestion of waiting until 48 hours before may be best. This way, you don't have to part with that money until before you go on vacation. And, think of it this way, it's already taken care of. No need to worry about it when you check in. :)

As previously stated the problem with waiting to add the dp 48 hours before you check in is that when you make reservations for CRT and dinner shows like Hoop De Doo at the 180 days mark you will have to pay up front for those dinners.

So add the dining plan for the one day you want to go to CRT and HDD. DVC is letting you add the plan for any days you want. Then only pay for the one night.

Then go back and add the plan for the rest of the nights 48 hours ahead of time and pay for the other nights.

I was told they would accept payment from a guest as long as the member has all the info. Credit Card # expiration, 3 digit security code and billing address and complete name on the card.

I don't see why this wouldn't work. This sounds like a good plan to me.

Did the rule change that you had to book DDP for each night of your stay or not at all? If so, I missed that and it is great news!

DVC will allow you to "split" your reservation to have some nights with the plan and some without. For example, nights 1 to 4 with the dining plan is one reservation and nights 5 to 7 without is another reservation. I believe you have to checkout and check back in. Not sure what the current word is on the possibility of moving rooms.

I really don't see the difference between paying @ check-in and adding it 48 hours out and paying for it then, which you can still do, if your issue is having time to save up the $$ to pay for it.

:thumbsup2 I agree.

Could you please elaborate on how this would work. The raising prices without announcing it?

If Disney gets payment in advance of what they used to, effectively they can put that money to work for 6 months or more. So they get your money sooner which is basically similar to a price increase since you can't earn any interest off of it during that time.

True, but given current interest rates, even $1000 isn't going to earn much in 6 months. Maybe $10 or $20. So Disney could just as easily raised the price per person $1 or $2 for the same outcome.

Prices are going up everywhere, I doubt that small amount of earned interest is of any concern to them, considering their would be additional accounting costs.

It is likely simply a function of merging the two reservation systems, and preparing the DVC for online reservations. I think this falls into the category of "Be careful what you wish for..."

I agree with all your points. When interest rates do rise, it would be more of an issue. I think it's safe to say that no matter what the current policies are, they will change. And those changes will most likely benefit Disney more than the guests.

We in fact, are glad to pay for the DDP when we make our reservations. I like to have my vacation completely paid for before it begins. It is really nice to come home and not have any lingering bills. It makes it so much nicer to begin planning the next vacation.

I'm not trying to be rude or snobby, but if having the reservations put a hold on your CC is too much of a strain, then can you truly afford the DDP to begin with. Seriously, not looking to flame anyone here, just wondering if sometimes people live above their means.

I think a very high percentage of DVC members agree with you. Many people like having their trip completely pre-paid. The popularity of all-inclusive type vacations seems to be increasing. But I can also see the other side of the coin, where people do want to book some of the few meals that require prepayment or an active DDP on file.

It doesn't affect me either way, as I have never used a DDP. The TiW makes for more sense for our dining habits. We like to order appetizers more than desserts.
