Sounds like they are hiring a bunch. I have some free time on my hands and I'm not in an at risk group. I don't mind shopping with other peoples money.

Wondering what it's really like. Looking for details.

I did for about a year. You have to be very selective about which shops you choose, but with the on demand platform that’s very hard (previously you were scheduled and had a few minutes to decide if the shop was worth your time). If you do decide to shop, never take one because of a great tip. Too many people cancel a tip after delivery. And be prepared to get frustrated with both the customers and shoppers support. Can you recognize that I quit; it wasn’t worth the time and gas. Often shoppers end up working for around $5 an hour and have to pay for gas out of that.

I don’t; but I just used it.

I appreciated that someone can do what I cannot right now.

I can see where if items are not in stock the tip being reduced (it is a percentage). I chose a fixed amount instead. Customer can adjust the tip after delivery.

It took her about 40 mins to get my order and deliver it. So not bad money ($20 tip).

I don’t know if Instacart also pays them a fee or if tips are all they make. I hope I can request the same driver next time (not sure how).

OP, just so you are clear, one doesn't just drive for Instacart. The workers have to go into the store themselves to do the shopping. It's not like being a driver for a pizza delivery, where all you have to do is show up at the counter and be given a stack of pizzas someone else made. You would do the shopping, making suggestions, substitutions, etc., so your tips are also dependent on how well you shopped for the customers and how quickly you did it. Unfortunately, probably some people do take it out on their shopper when an appropriate substitution can't be made, even though the shopper tried really hard to get something for them but the store was just out of stuff.

Here is a post I posted on the other Instagram thread. and another poster who said my post is accurate.

I've never used Instacart, but have seen when several of them were in-store shopping. As far as I know, they don't get access to the stockroom area. They basically only have access to what is on the store shelves and are shopping in place of the customers they are shopping for. So, if the store inventory accurately lists 5 packages of Charmin, but 5 customers get to them ahead of your Instacart person, then you are out of luck. I've seen them take pictures and text what substitutions are currently available. They really do try their best to shop for you and get you something. So, stick by your phone, in case those texts come in.

You are correct. We had our 2nd straight week of Instacart delivery yesterday and we asked if they shop in the market or a warehouse and she said they shop right in the store. While they shop for you if they don't have the brand you want they contact you and tell you what they have to replace it and you OK it or not. We have been lucky and had 2 really nice women and they did a great job.
