Just wondering if anyone that recently did the regular dining plan got back and wished they had gone deluxe?

Great question. Or the other way around - anyone do dxddp and wish they had done ddp or no dining plan at all?

I've used the "old" DDP several time and I wish they had the DDDP back then. I enjoy going to the Signature Restaurants but by using the DDP I was limited to only doing 1 or 2 per trip and using up a bunch of the TS credits.

For us, going to the Signature Restaurants we can run up to 60-100 per person, so the cost is worth it. Not to mention, we will be able to go to a Signature restaurant every night instead of just 1 or 2 for the whole trip. (We will use 1 TS credit for a big breakfast or lunch, the snack credits to hold us over until dinner, and then a big dinner. The only thing I'm dreading having to pay is the gratuities. With the bills we rack up at the TS locations, the amount we leave in tips will add up quick.

I know the DDDP is going to be a TON of food. I think one of the "cons" of the DDDP is if you use it mostly for TS meals and have to plan your trip around your ADRs. Of course, if you use most of your credits for CS meals, the cost-benefit might be lost too.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts.

I still go back and forth on whether on getting the DDDP for our next trip. I just don't know! I wonder if it will be too much. We are there for 11 days. Right now my ADR's are:

Arrival Day: LLT dinner
1st day: CRT Lunch; CM dinner
2nd day: H&V Breakfast; O'hana Dinner
3rd day: Animal Kingdom buffet Breakfast; LeCellier Dinner
4th day: Askerhuas Breakfast; Narcosses Dinner
5th day; CP Breakfast; Teppan Edo Dinner
6th day; Kona lunch; CS at MK for PPP
7th day; ESPN early lunch; Coral Reef Dinner
8th day; LLT early lunch; GG Dinner
9th day; Beaches adn Cream early lunch; 1900 Park Fair dinner
10th day; O'hana Breakfast; Cap't Jack's late lunch.

If we only do the DP, I would get rid of LeCellier and Narcosses for sure. The Kona Lunch and LLT lunch will go as well and Cap't Jack's lunch. The rest I will need to keep because that is what my family wants, but will pay OOP for many breakfasts and CRT lunch.

I still might get the deluxe, but wonder, if it would be worth it. It will cost about $1,000 more for deluxe. We get two mugs for sure when we go, so I would buy those anyway. Snacks - my DD5 is a snack nut. She will eat her snack allotment and mine in Mickey Ice Cream bars alone. I just can't decide!

I am also on the fence! If I go with the dxddp, I will CRINGE if I have to spend a single dime on food after paying all that $$ already. What if I go to Casey's and order fries w/my hotdog? It doesn't come with. Would I have to shell out for those, too? Things like that make me want to go with ddp and oop. Which I've figured would be about $50 less. But who knows what we'll want to do once we get there, so that is why I'm still mulling over the dxddp. But there isn't any guarantee that it will cover everything we want, right?

We've booked the deluxe. As I've stated here before, it works for our family and we can justify the cost b/c we don't go every year and like to truly enjoy our vacation. Our children are used to 3 meals per day, and the deluxe allows us to keep their "routine".

That's another thing: this is the last time we are going for a few years. My 4 year old has already been there 3 times! I am expecting #2 and I know how it goes the first 2 years. So no WDW vacations for a while.

I don't think we will spend a single dollor extra if we get the DDDP. With the regular DP, I think we will spend for sure about $550 more. With the DDDP costing about $1000, I am just trying to decide if the $450 difference would be worth it to go DDDP. It would be very convenient to not have to pay anything extra and just go and enjoy and not worry about it. But with it being $1,000 more, that is a lot of money so I feel I need to really justify it.

What if you want something that is not covered by the ddp? It's limiting if you think of it that way.

I really can't think of thing that we would need that the DDDP doesn't cover. We aren't big drinkers while on vacation with the kids. Any snack that we would want is covered. Appy's are covered on deluxe. What more could we possibly want? Am I missing something that I should be considering?

Now, I know there will be things we want extra that is not covered by the regular DP, I just wonder if all those things will be more or around $1,000. That is what I need to decide. I think it may be too late anyway. We are leaving on March 26, so I am not sure I could even still upgrade to the Deluxe if I wanted to. Maybe my decision is already made for me:confused3

You have 72 hours before your check in date to decide. Just do it!!! And don't look back! :)

I did the dxddp and I think you will see how I felt!
They say a picture is worth a 1000 words! :lmao: :rotfl:

I myself thought about the DxDDP. My family is not a three meal a day family. For Breakfast my kids do eather waffles, pancakes, French sticks, or ceral. I like going to Sams Club and buying the Breakfast Sandwichs and coffee. Lunch is CS and I know for Dinner three out of seven night we are there, Rain Tree Cafe, Boston Lobster Feast, and Supper with my Brother & Family. So that would free up 3 TS if we wanted to do SD. Now as for as snacks go, It's include in my budget. I mean who can resist the Big Warm Soft Cinnamon Roll from MK. So I will save around 1225.00. 4 plus 1 sister-in-law.

Thanks! I really should just do it and not look back. 72 hours, eh? I guess that gives me to this weekend to decide. I bet I change my mind 100 times before then and now. I really, really, want to, but $1,000 is a lot of money. But the convenience of not having to pay anything oop would be great too. Maybe $1,000 will just fly into my lap before the weekend. :woohoo:

I'm no help, but I say GO FOR IT!!!!!

I want to, but alas we can't. :headache:

Order the combo and it comes w/ fries and dessert. ;)

and no there is no guarantee but with 3 full meals per day plus 2 snacks, I can't see anyone going hungry on that plan! :confused3

If the park hours are really long each day I think that the DxDP would be a bit more useful as you can eat an early breakfast then a later lunch and then a really late dinner. That way you wouldn't be spending the whole day eating.

$1,000 more to do the DxDDP vs the DDP. I am not sure that you'll get that much extra value out of it, being that you're covering what you're already ordering with $500, that leaves you about $500 for...

Based on a 7 night stay you'll get per person about $34.30 of extras:
1 Mug - Value $12.49 ($13.30 with tax)
1 Extra Snack per Day - Value (approximately) $21.00 ($22.37) with tax

I am not saying that the DxDDP doesn't work for everyone, but to me that seems like a lot, unless you have a party of 15 - then you'll come out ahead with the DxDDP.

If you weren't getting what you want already for that $500 oop in addition to the cost of the DDP, then it'd be a different story.

I got rid of the DxDP today. This is why:

My family is a 3 meal a day family. But thinking of getting up and making ourselves eat those three meals each day was driving my bananas! Instead of getting to an early breakfast, it seemed much less stressful for us to stay in our room, eat cereal bars and fruit, and then go straight to the parks. We're going to be there in the summer, but I think if we spend our time at a good CS meal, and get ice cream in the afternoon, we'll be fine during the day. Then a nice sit down TS in the early evening. To me, that seems just less stressful than worrying about where we are supposed to be when and when the next ADR is. I've actually thought of keeping only 2 of our ADRs and dropping the DP altogether (LeCellier and Crystal Palace). Seems like there are some great CS locations that might fit our needs better.
