Anyone develop heel pain in one foot after a week walking around Disney?

First off - go to the doctor - it sounds like it could be PF but it could also be a heel spur - either way - get it checked out.

Shoes are usually the culprit - I cannot do Crocs anymore - they do not have enough arch support for my feet. I do a mixture of very good running shoes with inserts or Keens for sandals.

Best of luck and I hope that you are painfree very soon!

Plantar fasciitis. I developed it from a pair of shoes. It can take a long time to heal. Stop wearing those shoes and do the exercises people have posted. You'll soon learn which shoes are bad for you. I can wear some cheap flip flops but not expensive name brand shoes.

See, I was thinking heel spur. When I had plantar faschitis it was in the balls of my foot. My wife has a heel spur, and you described her symptoms.

I had my first bout of PF after a Disney trip. I found a combination of Ibuprofen, supportive shoes and a night splint during flare-ups to work for me. The night splint holds your foot in a 90 degree angle while you sleep to stretch the fascia. Here are some examples..http://www.orthoticsandbeyond.com/c-23-night-splint.aspx

Also, walking around barefoot is not recommended. I can only do Crocs now if they are the supportive ones for my arch( I have high arches).

Hey, just wanted to thank you for posting the link for night splints. I've been suffering from PF for about 6 months and it's slowing getting better. The night brace I got from my podiatrist is on that list so I decided to google it and I purchased the exact model # and brand that I got from my Dr. The biggest difference is that I paid $200 at the Drs for it and I only paid 22.78 w/free shipping from Amazom. Mine is getting worn out and I didn't want to spend another $200. Never dawned on me to check on-line :rolleyes1:rolleyes1 Stupid on my part but you saved me over $175. THANK YOU!!

To anybody suffering from PF, a night brace is your friend. I felt immediate relief after only the first night. It helps keeping the foot stretched.

This happened to me on my last Disney trip, but it just started randomly during an afternoon at the pool. The pain was so bad I had to be pushed in a wheelchair back to the room because I couldn't bear weight on that foot at all without walking on my tiptoes!

It was slightly better the next day and gone the day after that.

I think I might have bruised it on the bottom of the pool? So random though!

Thank you all for the replies! My chiropractor actually specializes in active release therapy so I have had him look at it and he started to treat me. I see him weekly but have tried stretching on my own. This teaches me not to switch away from the CROCS I have worn every year at Disney. I have very flat feet already and my arches are non existent so I have to do more research about orthotics. We have lousy insurance that goes up for anything so I haven't yet seen a podiatrist. If I get results from some of the suggestions here (off to order a night splint!) and the ART, I will wait on that. If I don't get any relief, I will look into it soon. I tend to lean more to PF as the pain varies when I walk - worse when I get up in the morning or from sitting and lessons a little throughout the day. Wouldn't a heel spur hurt all of the time? Anyway, I am very grateful for all of the information as my husband would have just taken a wait and see attitude. Clearly that is not the best approach here!

Could just be a heel bone spur. I got mine from stepping on a little lego at home. Mine didn't hurt all the time - only when I put pressure on the foot like walking or standing.
I ended up seeing a Podiatrist who xrayed my foot and saw the bone spur.

The foot doc gave me a cortizone shot and had me do foot exercises (basically rolling my foot on a tennis ball or cold water bottle) 3 - 4 times a day.

It took months but it finally healed.

I would bet a small fortune that you have PF, and most people who get PF do not need orthotics to heal. Some great tips on the board. Remember, if the pain gets too bad, take NSAIDs for relief. Most people who get PF take 12-18 months to heal, so be prepared for this to take a while. There is not much that a doctor can do to help you if you have PF that you cannot learn to do yourself with a Google search, so I wouldn't waste the time/money unless you begin to suspect that this is not PF.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Every trip..by the end of the first day. Last trip I was in so much pain that I wore multiple pair of socks. That is the one aspect of a Disney vacation that I don't look forward to.

One does not have either plantar fasciitis or a heel spur. Heel spurs are calcium build ups on the bottom of the foot. They can be caused by many things. You can have one for years and not know it.

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the tissue that starts at the heel and extends along the bottom of the foot. This inflammation can be caused by a lack of arch support. The inflammation makes you feel the heel spur.

Are you saying that everyone who has experienced PF has a heel spur? If so, you are wrong.

I had platar fascititis and I got a cortisone shot in the heel. Hurts like He** but then it stopped. I also do an excersize the help stretch out the tendons. Stand on the edge of a step with the heels hanging over the edge. Drop the heels as much as you can and hold them. Try to relax when you do it as it works better that way. Just do it for a few minutes everytime you go up the stairs.
Don't have very much pain anymore.

Funny I should happen across this. We went to WDW end of April/early May and after two days I had a debilitating pain in my right heel (achilles part), AND I got huge blisters on the bottom of my foot. After many trips to WDW, for the first time I was brought so low. The only thing that saved the trip was renting a scooter. I've had pain many times, and even went one year on sprained ankle, but this was the absolute worst.

Thinking it would heal on its own with rest, I did nothing this summer. Stayed off it, ice and heat. I finally went to a podiatrist this week and was diagnosed with achilles tendonitis and am now getting physical therapy. I can't walk down stairs or hills, and even a trip to the grocery store brings a lot of pain.

Wha. . .Huh?

I had heel pain similar to yours after a lot of walking in Gatlinburg. Saw my primary doctor who diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis and I thought I had it also. The stretches and things like that didn't help after a few weeks so I saw a podiatrist who found a small stress fracture in my heel after doing some xrays and ultrasound. Treatment was just a walking boot for several weeks.

One way to,relieve the inflammation is to fill a 20oz soda bottle with water and freeze it. When frozen, place tombottle on the floor, place with foot with the pain on top of the bottle and roll it back and forth. The ice helps reduce the inflammation and the shape of the bottle give the foot a little stretch. (from my podiatrist - when my PF first started)

You're welcome..They are fantastic. Even better when you realize the cheaper models work fine.:yay: I've used the $35 model from the drugstore and they work like a charm.
