DH and I have been watching this together and was wondering if anyone else watches it and what their thoughts are on it. DH (who has been to Iraq twice) said that the show is the closest to the situation that he has seen on tv, but it is still NOWHERE near what really happens (which is alot worse). I have to admit when I watch it with him and hear him make comments like, "Had that happen" (talking about mortar and RPGs hitting REALLY close) and "been to quite a few of those" (talking about Wed episode where they make a memorial to those KIA of boots, a pic, weapon, etc and soldiers file by to pay respects), it kinda makes my chest hurt. When he is deployed I don't watch the news and try to block out the fact that he goes in before the front line does so that I don't worry..maybe I shouldn't do that, but well..there it is..my denial keeps me sane LOL. Anyway, I am just curious about anyone elses thoughts on the show..I just need a break for the Bush bashing and hurricane threads (selfish I know) and thought to talk about something else...

We've been watching it. DH got so frustrated on a couple of scenes because "it just wouldn't happen like that" or "that's not what goes on"
I got a little PO'd about the cheating wife. I mean, yeah, that sells TV, and it happens, but why not show the single parents carting their kids around everywhere trying to make their life normal?

I too went to the no news zone when dh was deployed. Ignorance is bliss! If I needed to know something dh told me.

I watched it the first two weeks but haven't since then. The first two episodes focused too much on the cheating wife and didn't show any of the good things going on. Maybe it has improved.

I have a friend that is being deployed next week. I don't think I can bring myself to watch it while he is gone.

Yes! The cheating wife is p-ing me off! You know there are now people out there that think military wives are like that since they aren't showing normal wives. Also the husband whose wife is deployed is having lunch with that other wife and instead of making it look innocent, I swear it is headed in a bad direction. Normal wives are too boring I guess.

DH complains about the way they portray things too. He is also annoyed when they get the uniforms wrong LOL.

Another thing that is annoying is the nickname thing - I keep asking him if he has a cool nickname and tells me its classified information.

LOL, DH didn't have to tell me his "nickname". When he got back from Iraq the last time one of the guys kept calling him "Delta" and I finally just asked the boy why he kept doing it. Long story short, DH was called to the "talk" at 3am and he just threw on the nearest clothes (his pt shorts, shirt, kevlar, side arm and flip flops  ). When he got to the talk the Army MSgt freaked at his outfit and said, "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING, DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DELTA FORCE? GET OUT OF MY TALK?!" (I used caps since he was yelling LOL). DH shrugged, said "OK" and went back to bed. He was asked to come back a few minutes later (supply and demand, you know). Being a smartbutt, he had the same thing on *sigh*. This time nothing was said and DH did his job. The guys started calling him "Delta" after that. DH is such a jerk sometimes, but he always comes out on top somehow (one day I know I am going to get a call and he'll be in prison LOL). One of our neighbors was in Iraq w/ him and said DH was always trying to push someones buttons over there and the Army HATED him because he never got into trouble for it. When he goes to Afgahn in Jan he plans on taking his golf clubs with him which is going to p some people off *groan*.

I've been watching this show too, even though I know I shouldn't because it really upsets me. I've been pretty good about avoiding news coverage of Iraq, but somehow I can't force myself not to watch this show.

I'm still trying to decide how I feel about it. At times it seems very realistic, and at other times it seems a little "propaganda-ish" to me. It also has some VERY disturbing scenes such as the beheading on last week's episode.

I agree that the cheating wife story line is sad too. I had hoped they would show more "normal" families and how they deal with the situation, but as someone else stated, that doesn't make for very good ratings. :(

I watch this show and like it. I have no one in Iraq or the military, though. I think the wife of the injured soldier more than makes up for the cheating wife. She's awesome! Love the way she supports her man, but also was able to put him (gently) in his place when he got back.

I Tivo it for DH. Watched about 5 minutes of it myself and was able to pick out the "characters" - ie, I correctly guessed "that guy will be divorced by the end of his tour" (yep, she's cheating on him!) and "that's the dead hotshot" (only had his leg blown off, but...)
