Anyone been to Boma's lately? This is one of our favorite restaurants. We've always enjoyed going, but from some of the posts I've read, they are heavily seasoning their food with cinnamon. Is this true? We love the smells and spices.
Thanks,
Bonnie

Bonnie, we were there in Dec 09 and yes everything was very sweet and most dishes had a cinnamon background to it. Even the meats had it.

It was our first exposure to this place and we weren't expecting it....needless to say we weren't happy with it.

We were there twice in May and I didn't notice any overpowering of cinnamon or any spice at Boma.

we ate there Jan 2010. We loved it! We didn't notice anything "off" with heavy seasoning. Everything was fresh and delicious. The only complaints I remember hearing from our table was the carved beef was a little tough.

I don't know if you would consider late February/early March recent or not, but when we were there we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I have been reading the same sort of comments lately and frankly, I just don't understand the cinnamon comments at all. I did try one soup that seemed to have a light cinnamon flavor, but that was it. I also asked my husband and son if they seemed to think things tasted heavily of cinnamon and both just stared at me for a moment before saying, "NO!" :rotfl2:

That was my experience in Sept last year. Everything started to taste the same after a while. It looks like more recent visitors haven't noticed the same thing, so maybe they've made changes.

I think it really depends more on *what* you eat. I guess there might be a lot of things that have cinnamon, but I only had one--the fufu. There wasn't any cinnamon in anything else I ate in May.

So, forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but if you choose only cinnamon flavored things, then yes, everything you eat will taste like cinnamon.

I tasted most of the dishes on offer, and still felt like the sweet/cinnamon flavors came through on a lot of them.

I to tried every dish there, as this was our dinner to be adventerous, and every dish had sweet flavors to it. Cinnamon, fruits... every dish had sweet tones to it.
So it wasn't the case of just eating the "sweet" dishes for us either. It was everything.
