Do people actually wear an "Easter bonnet" anymore like the song says?

I made them as a kid. (decorated a straw hat). Its been a long time since I wore a bonnet for Easter!

My mother does!

Usually we try to stay faaaar away from her ... :lmao:

 when I was little my mom would put one on my head. I also had the little white glove with a little white purse. Of course white matching shoes too.

My 4yo DS's pre-school class was required to bring in a homemade bonnet. Most parents cheated & glued flowers & eggs onto a straw hat. If I get a chance I will post a pic later of my sons. We made one using a paper plate. :)

The bag boy at Publix had one on last night. :teeth: It was cute. :thumbsup2 Bet he got a lot of tips.

Could this be a regional thing?

I lived in the NE for 26 years and don't remember many women wearing hats at Easter. Little girls in hats and bonnets, yes--but not women. But since moving to the south, I've seen hats on women for Easter services much more often. They're not in the majority, but it's a much more common sight than where I grew up.

When DS was 3 his preschool class made bonnets for all the mommies. It was a paper plate with the middle cut out, cupcake papers glued around the edge, and a ribbon to tie under the chin. The teacher had each mom put on her hat and pose for a pic with her child. Then we all went outside for the school Easter egg hunt/Spring carnival.

Ahh! Those were the good old days. ;)

My students made Easter bonnets ... well, the girls did. The boys made bunny ears.

We took gift wrap (the floral kind works best) and cut a big square out of it. Big enough to cover their head. Then, I covered the girls hair w/a shower cap and tied the gift wrap to their head. Then, I took spray starch and sprayed it all over the gift wrap. I curled the remaining paper up into a brim. When it dried (on their head), I sprayed it w/more spray starch. Once that dried, we tied on a tulle bow and I hot glued silk flowers to it. Very, very cute. The girls loooved their bonnets and their moms thought they were just darling! We had a parade around the school.

As for who wears Easter bonnets to church services, it's the little girls. It's rare if I see a woman wearing an Easter bonnet or even a hat!!!
