Anyoen else enjoy Haunted Mansion?

Finally saw it. I actually liked it. It was a littel corny and slow a few times, but I really liked the story plot.

Too scary to take my kids, though. Starnge target audience for thsi, I think?

I enjpyed all the ride references, but didn't think much of it otherwise. Eddy Murphy seems to have completely lost it. He kept overacting and mugging for the camera. It was like he was possessed by spirit of Don Knots playing Mr Furley.

Ok anyone griping about eddie over acting apparently hasnt ever seen a possessed real estate agent.... he hit it right on the nose...it was a good movie, not pirate quality but a good movie.

I havent seen it but my daughters saw it and thought it was very good and are dying to tell me about it and ruin it for me when i do see it.

It was a very entertaining movie. Certainly no Pirates...But it's no Country Bears, either. A good offereing for the whole family.

As to the 'posessed real estate agent,' I too have seen many and I agree that Murphy hit the nail on the head, no over acting at all, IMO. To look for the 'posessed agent' check the eyes first...If it appears the pupils are shaped like little $$ signs, then you've seen it!

So, I once again have to follow my good buddy Pirate with a differing opinion.

The good: I enjoyed the attraction references, appreciated the "Walt" head, thought the effects were great and the sets very well done.

The bad: Holy Cow did it drag like a plow horse. I caught myself yawning several times. The storyline lacked cohesion. There seemed to be effects and gags that were shoehorned in because they were "neat", not because they added to the story. A bit of an uncomfortable mish-mash, making it "busy" and confusing.

I agree that Murphy was not on top of his game here. It felt like Tommy Lee Jones' performance in Men in Black II - just phoned in.

1.5 stars out of 5.

Now remember my friend, I said it was "very entertaining" not "very good." There were enough jokes and good special effects to overcompensate (to a degree) for the rather light story. Could it have been done better? Certainly and in this typically Hollywood scenerio you have to wonder why oh why didn't they keep working that script! Because IMO, the premise, effects and gags were fine and even the acting was acceptable. The lack of a compelling story is what hurt.

But still, all in all, it was enjoyable for my 10 year old and I had no big itch to go running for more popcorn...As I did with Ice Age, btw (I throw that in because I know you LIKED Ice Age GC)...

Since gcurling gave it a numerical rating, I will follow suit with a solid 2.6123 stars out of five. pirate:

I've been avoiding this movie so far because I am no Eddie Murphy fan but I guess that I'll go based on these posts so the 10 year old can see it. I'll just go for the effects and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

My 14 year old daughter saw it and said it was "cute". In teenagerish, that means it wasn't worth seeing again, but it did get her out of the house for a couple hours.

I did not really enjoy the movie. I feel that the movie had more of a serious note and that Eddie Murphy's parts don't exactly fit in. What I don't understand and maybe I overanalize but why was everyone cursed except for Elizabeth. I know, I must be really slow but any explanation would be great.

I also didn't get who wrote the first letter he saw that caused him to go kill himself cause later he says he recognizes Elizabeth's handwriting in the letter eddie Murphy gave him. (The true letter.) So did the butler forge it or did he force her to write another one?!? UH?!?

Best thing about the movie is the look of it. Beautiful sets and costumes.

Second best thing is the performance by Terrance Stamp (the butler).

Worst thing about the movie is Jennifer Tilly as Leota rolling all over the place.

Everything else is forgetable.

I also thought many referances to the ride were "shoe horned" in, and were only there so we could check them off some sort of Ride Reference Check List.

I took DS7 to see it with his friend (8), his friend's sister (13) and their mom. They are not big Disney fanatics, but all of them enjoyed it. I had to tell them the story of it. Although they have been on the ride, they didn't really put anything about the ride together with the movie. I thought it was entertaining. We went at a matinee. DS LOVED it and wants to take Grandma to see it. So, we will probably go again.

FINALLY saw POTC and there is NO comparison!!!!

I thought the Haunted Mansion was OK.
As someone else put it, it was no Pirates of The Caribbean, but then again it was loads better than the Country Bears!
I felt the effects were very good, and the plot line was OK, but I think Disney really missed the mark overall. The movie wasn't scary or suspenseful enough to be a thriller, and it wasn't really funny enough to be a comedy. So what was it supposed to be? (Another way to make a buck off of a long time favorite ride?)
Why didn't it open around Halloween time? (I think that would be more fitting)

Oh well, for what it's worth, those are my 2 cents.

The only part of this movie I liked was the very beginning when they said "welcome foolish mortals"!!
After that it was a bad made for tv movie!!
now to me pirates was first rate!! And actually I enjoyed the country bears more then the Hm movie
Just my opinion!
