A Ding fare just came up....$71 each way !!!. Even if we rent a car and drive up and back, I'm saving bucket loads.

Any thoughts (quick ones) are appreciated !

We are going to Tampa this year rather than MCO for the cost savings (over $500 for family of 4). It is about a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Tampa airport to Disney - time well spent for the savings....I'd go for it.

I flew into Tampa 2 weeks ago from Boston. My sisters and myself had no problems finding our way. We used Avis and it was in the building across the walkway. Very easy. We stayed in Tampa so I can't comment on the drive but the airport was nice.

Tampa is a really nice mid-sized airport. There are 4 or 5 rental car companies right in the terminal. With counters right next to baggage claim.

The drive is VERY easy, on a good day, it's doable in about 90 minutes, sometimes there is some bad traffic, but it's literally a straight shot East on I-4.

I would do it without a second thought.

Went a head and pulled the trigger. Here are the stats.....

- Original Airfare $1108 (R/T Philly - Orlando, Family of 4)
- New Airfare $643 (R/T Phill - Tampa)
- Gross savings $464
- Rent a minivan Tampa - WL = $64 (will work on a better rate here). Drop car off at Hilton in DTD. (Avis rental)
- Total Savings = $400 !!!!! :cool1:

Also flight we'll arrive at WL ~ 11:30am vs 3:00pm. Gets us virtually a full day at WDW on arrival day. Have to figure as well, that the flight to Tampa will be slightly less nuts than the flight to Orlando. Similar in nuttiness, but maybe a notch lower. :teeth:

Now to work on the cheaper car ressie !!

I usually either fly in or out of Tampa on every trip to WDW.I have cousins in that area that we visit with near Clearwater. Travel time for the trip to WDW was about 1 and 1/2 hours .Also, the highway was very well marked in both directions.... Have a great trip !!!!

No problem at all. We just did this a few days ago. The drive from TPA to WDW will take you about 1.5 hours (it should be less but there is construction on I-4 right now). Go ahead and book it.

Lots of construction on I-4. Goes on all day and weekends so allow some extra time.

Any allternate route worth considering ?

Hopefully we'll be there early in the day on a weekend. Maybe less traffic.
