Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Many retailers go "in the black" that day as they make so much money.:teeth: My Mom, Sis, and I always make a day of it, starting with the first one that opens early in the morning. Always Fun! :teeth:

I used to have to work Black Friday and it has a much different meaning for those working it. We are all "dead" by the end of the day.

WalMart usually has a "leak" about 10 days before, but, it is not always accurate. We did not get the info until about 5 days before the event, when the merchandise started to show up.
I did not get to order it, it was sent by HQ in Arkansas.

How could someone not know about Black Friday? :p

Anyway, you should start looking at usual shopping sites, such as www.fatwallet.com, www.mycoupons.com, or www.freesamplesite.com about a week or so prior to Thanksgiving.

Sometimes info will get leaked out.. but remember some internet info is local info only, (ie, the Kmart sale in Des Moines, is different than the one in Dallas). Some parts of the country have different merchandise because of the climate (for example, a sale on electric blankets/winter coats would do well on the East coast, but not in Arizona!)

The very best bet is to get a paper early on Thanksgiving day and make a game plan. Usually Kmart is open on Thanksgiving, so I will get some deals that day. Sometimes the Tday sale is Better than the black friday deal, but not as bad.

The day prior to Thanksgiving, the stores start (ie Target/Walmart) putting out the merchandise. I go to these stores prior to closing that day (the Wednesday before T day) and see where they are putting the merchandise. I also check out the line set up as well. I also look to see if an online store is offering the same as a B & M store. If I can get the same thing online, I will do it that way, instead of waiting in line.

As for Black Friday, i start at 430 and am done and home by 10 am!

I remember last year waiting in line at the local Walmart at 5 am and being way down the back of the parking lot. There were at least 200 people in front of me. And I was freezing, it had to be below 20. I swore I would never do that again, but to tell you the truth, it was fun and I did great.
I got DVD players for all my boys for $59 each and they work great.
I got my neices and nephews 26" bikes for $24.99 each, and they love them and their great Aunt Peggie.
I bought DVD's for $5.99, a toaster, shake mixer, sandwich maker, and crock pot for $2.99 each. they go with me each trip when I stay at my DVC resort.
Can't wait to see what Walmart witll have for me this year. But I am going to get in line at 3 this year. Peggie

it's shop till you drop or run out of $$ which ever comes first. It's kind of a tradition in our house DD & DH go out to the movies and lunch together while I go on my crazy shopping spree and then we meet back at home for left over turkey for dinner. It's a great day.

BUT, then to wrap everything!!! UGGHHH!!!

You would never have seen our merchandise, as it was not moved from the back until after closing. :)

You take all that to your DVC resort? They have a toaster and blender already.

I saw Target put out the TV/DVD players that were set for Black Friday sale ONE hour prior to closing last year. I have also seen Kmart do it, but that was more for setting up for the Thanksgiving day sale. (but as the Thanksgiving day sale was ending, i did come back and note where things were being moved in time for the Black Friday sale)

I have also heard the same "luck" with Walmart, with other people but I don't know. There weren't that many Walmarts near me this year, but I will test the thoery this year. Some Walmarts near here arent' 24 hours, they close at either 9 or 10 (insanely early) I don't know if thier operating hours are indicative of when they set up or not.

Glad to see that I am not the only lunatic out there shopping. Last year we were in Maine and it was like 17 degrees waiting for KB Toys to open at 4 am. When we finished that we headed over to Walmart that opened at 5 am. Then off to Best Buy in the Mall. This year Thank God I am in New Orleans and wont get frost bite while waiting for my shopping fun. But the frozen nose was a battle scar that I was proud of.

Very few are 24 hours here. Insanely early, not for the folks working. :) I closed my lab at 9, the store closed at 10. We started the stocking of BF merchandise at 10 pm.

I though KBKids offered online sales until noon on that Friday. Sure beats standing in line at 5:00 AM! I wonder why they don't all come up with something like that. Many of us would gladly get up and shop in PJs early that day than get out.

Just an FYI

Most people in the south don't know of Black Friday. I had no idea about it until I moved up north to PA and my co-workers teased me for asking what it was.
Now it is a tradition to go out with my BIL and hunt down the bargains.
Every year still though, when I call my mom in Texas to tell her about my Black Friday bargains she says "Black what???"

I know I'm waiting for a sneek peak at the black friday adds. Hopefully someone spills the beans soon!pirate:

Did you keep last years?

I used to do that, and compare, but I didnt this year . HINT: Kmart basically had the same things for two years, with one or two smaller things.

Best Buy's differs every year

Target usually has a few new "key" items, but the rest are mostly just a decent sale.

My route I usually take is Kmart, Target, Best Buy, Sears, and then specialty stores (ie had coupon for free stuff at Bath and body works went there, since its in the same mall as Sears)

Sometime we divide and conquer. BB and Target were in the same plaza (not anymore, dn't know what I am going to do) My son and hubby would go to BB, and I would do Target. We would park in the center of the plaza (so we wouldn't be mobbed by other cars)

Glad to see that my family isnt the only one with an after thankgiving day sales *Strategy*

:teeth:

BF is a tradition in our house.. we are the family in line at Best Buy at 5 am, waiting for the store to open. Last year DS and I waited at Circuit City and DH and other DS waited at Best Buy. Then they headed to Office Max and I went to Wal MArt. we meet at Target and then went to breakfast.. Great fun.
I found the deals last year posted at fatwallet.

But DH gets up T'day and gets the paper while I do the cooking, then we map the strategy and count down to BF.

This is so funny- I had NO idea there was a name for the day after Thanksgiving! I knew lots of people start Xmas shopping this day (not me, I HATE shopping), but I've never heard it called Black Friday until now. Thanks for teaching me!

I try and do my holiday shopping throughout the year (as a matter of fact I'm pretty much done), but I am always one for a good deal (if it's something I needed). I know about Black Friday, but I have NEVER shopped it (maybe because I work that day, but if stores were open really early...).

How cheap can you really get stuff? Is it really worth it even if you are not buying for Christmas?
