:yay: The Jersey shore, that is. We usually only get one or two daytrips in during the summer, so haven't spent any real time there in a while.
We took the Monday after Superbowl off, drove down to LBI, checked out the rentals. We came away with two weeks in July on a beach block in Beach Haven. :cool1:
The past several years, we've taken some pretty elaborate vacations, Hawaii, Mexico, The Caribbean, but I really never feel like I've had a vacation till I've been down the shore. So, we're pretty jazzed about this.:goodvibes
We used to stay up at other end of the island in Loveladies or Harveys Cedars, but after Chowdafest two years ago, decided we'd like to try around Beach Haven.
Also, we usually vacation in August, but, sometimes it seems NJ gets a little chilly on the beach then, so July will be a little differrent. Hoping for some good fishing and crabbing.

Anybody else planning any shore time for this summer?:goodvibes

Oh we would love to but I bet you are paying an arm and leg for that beach house!! We seem to always plan it but then decide we could go to Disney for that $ and end up there. But I am still hopefull. Loveladies is where we are trying to get a rental. How much was the week? if you don't mind me asking. :rolleyes1

I used to live on 6th street. What street is this house on? Good for you. I would like to go back up sometime and show DD my old stomping grounds. My sister's mother owns a house in Holgate and would let me stay there for a free week which would be awesome. Have fun!!

We will be down some weekends starting in late June but we will be in Bayhead. I will wave to you will on the parkway!!!!!!:sunny:

Yeah, it was high $, I'll pm you the details. Loveladies is a beautiful area, but we thought it would be nice to walk to the restaurants and stores and be staggering distance from the bars.:woohoo:
Although I haven't been to Disney in about a year, DW was there on business in the fall and DS20 was there for spring break last year.
We are going to plan a WDW trip for next New Year's.

Ahhh I love the Jersey Shore..especially LBI. My aunt has a vacation house in Harvey Cedars so we go there a few times.

Enjoy the vacation!

I'm a Wildwood girl at heart. We usually go for 5 days in August after we finish the Disney trip. I do like to get my time at the beach and all the craziness that is Wildwood. We stay in Wildwood Crest at a hotel right on the beach that has tons of kids activities.

It is on one of the "number" streets, I forget which one. But it was pretty close to Buckalew's, we were going to have lunch there Monday, but had to drive back north to take care of the dog.
A free week there would certainly be worth the drive or the flight up to NJ.

I usually go to point pleasant about half a dozen times in the summer. I never spend a night down there, if I actually wanted to go on vacation, I'd go to a cheaper and nicer beaches in NC, SC, GA, or FL, all before I spent the night at the Jersey shore. I just think it's highly overrated.

I was thinking about going up the country. Where the water tastes like wine.
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time.

I love Bayhead. My mom's family is from Point Pleasant. My grandfather was a lifeguard on Jenkinson's beach around 1915. Yep, we'll be waving going down the parkway (Exit 63).
:car:

hey NJZ,

Did you go through a real estate agent or do it online yourself and then looked at the house in person?

I think I might get a house for the week down either in LBI or lavalette...I've been checking online but places are filling up quickly!

TIA

We tried online, but I didn't really think I saw a great variety. So, I needed to drive my dad back to Lakewood anyway, so just made a day of it and went to LBI. We cruised the area that we thought we wanted to stay in and looked for the greatest amount of "for rent" shingles that were out.
I like Lavalette also, but have family on that island, so you never feel like you're away, if you know what I mean.;)

Yeah, I'm planning to be at the "shore" this summer. I live here year round and love it.

:) :) :)

I haven't heard anyone say 'down the shore' since I moved here nearly 14 years ago! I grew up in Allentown, PA, and every summer just about everyone I knew went down the shore for a week--my family always went to Wildwood Crest.

Thanks for the smile. :thumbsup2

I know a lot of people who aren't big on the shore. The last several years we've gone to Jupiter Island, FL, Hilton Head Island, some beach in Georgia, we own property in NC, so go to OBX occasionally, but always get drawn back to the shore.
Something about the salt air gets that pizza and sausage and pepper grease in my blood boiling.
Not that it doesn't get hot around here in the summer, but some of those more southerly areas are just to hot for these yankees.

It's not much of a vacation if you can't escape most of the family! ;)

BAYHEAD is a beautiful town..Loveladies I had never heard of my one of my students families have a home there.
I love Lavalette but Ortley/Seaside Heights North is the same beach for less money. Went every year till I bought a house in the Pocono's There is absolutely nothing like the ocean though  ..and we went back last year for a week. The water is clean, not a lot of rip tides and you can watch dolphins from your chair. Too many sharks in FL for me. We stayed in Spring Lake Heights one year (beautiful town) but the beach was closed due to tides. It is on the curve of the state and the water gets very rough there.
Enjoy!

Wildwood is certainly one of the greatest beach towns in the country. I go to the conventions there, Elks,Fire Dept, American Legion etc, and yes, it can get crazy there:cool2:
One year, we did a week in Stone Harbor, which is a quiet little town next to Wildwood, and another week at LBI. That was an awesome two weeks.

We rented a house for a week in August in LBI. I have never been there. We are going with friends. We are in Ships Bottom.. Can anybody give me any info about LBI?

I said to my DH this is the first time in years that we do not have to get up and run to be somewhere on vacation.:goodvibes
