Anybody else doing the KY Derby Festival Mini-marathon or Full this weekend?

Looks like we are going to have much better weather than last year--well, at least the ground is not going to be all sloggy and sloshy like it was last year!

I am running the half and Mike is running the full. I am hoping for an amazing time--cause last year I ran it with itbs, so this year has got to be better!

Anybody else coming to town?

Hi Rose,

John (John VN) and I will be there doing the mini-marathon. We are flying in on Thursday and staying at Downtown Marriott. We will also be going to the pasta dinner on Friday.

I received my bib number (23450) but John has not received his. We always seem to have problems when we register with active. I can never retrieve his info. I emailed KDF to find out his number.

Questions for you???

In case we do not hear from them, do they go by bib numbers or last names for picking up the bib?

Should we bring clothing for cool or rainy weather? It is showing rain for Saturday, plus cool temps compared to south Florida.

Hi Kathy!

If I remember correctly (and I asked Mike about this), they go by bib number, but I think they had a list by name hanging up.

I would bring warm and cool weather clothes. The weather around here is CRAZY! We often get stuck between warm and cool fronts so up until about 24 hours out I would assume the forecast is going to change. It can be really windy down by the river sometimes, so if it is going to be a cool morning you might want a throw away jacket. Right now it looks like pretty comfy temps once the race starts. And fingers crossed for no rain.

Last year we had record monsoon like rain the whole week before the race and the entire finish area was a swampy mess! This year we have had great weather so hopefully the Great Lawn is good shape.

And just a little hint--I thought the porta potties were very hard to find on the course, but there are actual restrooms at Churchill Downs. They have lines, but if you need to go, it's better than a porta pottie!

When do you all go home? We won't do the pasta dinner, but maybe we can meet up before or after the race? Mike's company has a meeting area that is pretty easy to find where we will be before, and if the weather is good, I will hang out there afterwards waiting for him to finish.

The city looks beautiful right now. I hope you all have a great visit!

Thank you for the info. We do not go home till early Monday morning. Let me know where you will be after the race and then we could possibly meet. It does not look like they have corals like Disney so we will be in the back of the pack for the start.

So now the local weather is calling for rain Saturday....but the Weather channel is still calling for isolated showers. I am hoping the isolated showers wins out!

There are corrals--last year it was kind of a joke. But there are supposedly 18000 runners this year, so who knows. The good news is the streets are pretty wide so I never felt like it was horribly crowded.

Do you all have plans to do anything fun?

Nothing planned as of right now. I am getting packed now . We should be at the Marriott by about 7PM

We plan on going to the expo on Friday

We just got back from the expo. There is an alphabetical list of names on several bulletin boards that you can look up your number and then you pcik up by number. Crowds were fairly low this evening.

Sorry we missed you. Rose finished in about 2:14 and I finished in 4:47. Neither of us was wearing wish shirts. We were both looking for WISH shirts but didn't see anything. Hope you guys had a good time.
