Yes, I know I mention this all the time, but here's a thread especially for it . . . . . .
For quite a while, the San Angel Inn had acquired a reputation for being "blah" . . . . or, for many guests, not quite that good.
Then the San Angel folks came along and built their companion restaurant out by the water, La Hacienda. About the time La Hacienda was opening, I went back to San Angel for the first time in quite a while. Greatly improved! Like night and day. The best meal I had ever had there, and very good service.
Perhaps they were motivated by their cousins across the walkway, but the Inn had definitely upped their game.
(OK, so the tables are still incredibly close together, you can't have everything - the food was improved!!)
