For Christmas we got our son an xbox one. It was $350 and I bought a few games to go with it ($60/each) and then I bought 3 extra controllers ($60/each). Anyway, after spending all this money, I come to realize that the majority of the games that go with the system, only one or two players can play at a time. Am I missing something? Sorry I bought 3 extra controllers and when he has a few friends over, they can't even play together.

It just depends on the game. Some games allow only single players, some multiple players. You can also play multiplayer games with friends online (you all need Xbox Gold accounts); this allows for more players than all playing on one console. The number of players is indicated on the back of the game box.

yes, I purchased a year of xbox Gold as well, thinking he could play with friends he has over. I just have seen so few games that lets 4 people play on the
console. We had the Wii and they used to have 4 players play on the console at one time. It just seems with xbox one, there are very few games that allows
his friends to play when they are over. Maybe we are just picking the wrong games. I just bought him Evolve and so far, it's his favorite game.

You're just purchasing the "wrong" games in terms of number of players allowed. Most games are 1-2 players. You need to be looking for games with 4 players...there aren't many. XBoxOne is more geared toward adults than say Nintendo consoles, and adults don't typically play with other people sitting next to them. :) Certain games like Call of Duty, Titanfall, Destiny, etc can be played with lots of other people but you have to have an Xbox Live Gold account.

OK, thank you. I guess this is why I should of researched it before spending hundreds of dollars on it.

All of ds12's friends have xbox live, so they can play together in person. When he goes to a friend's house, he brings a controller. He's on live right now - I can hear him yelling in the basement.

OK, didn't know that's how it works. I know one of his friends has playstation 4, one has the wii U and another has xbox 360. Figures they all have different consoles. Thanks for the
info.

Yes, unfortunately to play with friends online, they all need Xbox One consoles.

You didn't waste your money. You didn't say how old your son is, but even if he's only an occasional gamer, Xbox One was a good choice. He'll be able to use it for years before it is outdated.

He is turning 12 in June. Yes, he will have it for a long time and does really enjoy the games, even when he plays by himself.
