If Disney is planning a big shindig for their 40th they are being very quiet. :confused3

The betting is that there will be nothing special happening. They didn't do anything for the 30th, or 35th. Why do something for 40th?

Disney has yet to announce anything for 2011+, but if you read other threads in this forum you'll see that various Disney filings seem to indicate a fairly generic theme.

Halloween and the 40th Anniversary of WDW, what could be finer? I am coming with my grandchildren, and feel that some sort of celebration is definitely in order. After all, the amount of people that were there, on the opening is dwindling by the day. An anniversary celebration would have a great feeling of circularity and continuity.
I have a 1971, bright blue, backpack that we obtained at the opening. I would feel honored if MICKEY would wear it that week.

The only thing they are celebrating is not spending money on a birthday celebration.

TDO aka the worst theme park management there is does not do celebrations any more. They did nothing for EPCOTs 25th and nothing for DAKs 10th. What you see is what you get!

Anyone remember when Cinderella castle was turned into a cake for 25? Ah yea, those were the days, back when there was creativity, freedom, and a budget larger than the bill for a family of 4 at Chef Mickeys...

That's one thing they SHOULD have saved their money on.

The castle cake and the word creativity cannot be used in the same sentence.

Abomination or eyesore are the words you're looking for.

Yeah, sure. It's just the 40th not like it's the 50th. In general, 40th anniversary's aren't treated significantly by people. Quarter and half centuries are seen as significant to people. DL didn't put much into their 40th either but celebrated the 50th, and WDW will as well.

As for Epcot and DAK, well corporations (any corporation) does this mostly as marketing and a celebration at Epcot would not have brought in many new customers. And DAK, who would have cared?

They will gave something at MK on the day just like they did at Epcot's 25th. But really, why expect a major celebration for a relatively minor anniversary.

So announcing a new country and rebranding if WOL and JII4 for the 25th wouldn't have brought new people??

Epcot seems to always get the shaft... :confused3

I disagree. There's a huge difference between the Epcot of today and the Epcot of even 15 years ago.

You can like/dislike the changes they've made -- but they've invested quite a bit in this park with Test Track, Mission Space, Nemo, Turtle Talk and Soarin' along with the re-do of Spaceship: Earth -- not the mention more minor additions like Sum of All Thrills and the revisions to the Mexico boat ride, etc. etc.

In the mid 1990s, Epcot was quite pathetic -- we were approaching the new millennium and Future World was still clinging to this very 1970s-early 1980s view of the "Future."
