I was wondering how many people are DVC members from the West Coast. My wife and I are from California (my wife orignally from Boston) and we kept meeting folks from New York, New Jersey, Mass, etc. Farthest West we met was Georiga I believe. I'm just wondering if all the West Coasters hang out at Disneyland instead of Disneyworld? We're only a 6 hour drive down to LA but my wife insists that Disneyworld is much better. (Since it was her summer staple) Being a native Bay Area boy I've grown up Disneyland and honestly doesn't seem to me like it's much different from Disneyworld's Magic Kingdom. LA has lots to offer too like game and tv shows to attend. I've convinced her to try it this coming year instead of Disneyworld to save on the airfare. What do you think?

We live in Portland, OR and I agree with your wife. Disney World is worth the extra time and trouble to get to. In the past 10 years, we have been to Disneyland once but have been to WDW 7 times. If they would build a DVC next to DL we might go there more often.
Of course, for us it is about a 17 hour drive to Anaheim. If it was only 6 hours, that would be different.

Hi Tonyboy

We from CA....just down the road from you. We live in West San Jose, near Cupertino. We've been members for 4years now and own at BWV. We have a DS10 and DD5 so we always go in August before school starts. It's pretty hot and humid but we've come to really enjoy that time. We've been to Disneyland a few times with the kids but like WDW better. Maybe we'll see you around the parks someday. Happy Holidays!

We're technically not west coast, but in Salt Lake are much closer to DL than WDW. I've never even BEEN to DL! I lived in Florida for a time growing up and have family in the Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater area, so I grew up going to WDW. It's also nice to have the "excuse" of visiting family to sneak in yet another visit to Orlando!

Hi all!

We are in northern NV, not quite West Coast but much closer to DL than WDW. We moved here from Missouri, though, so WDW was closer when we lived there.
WDW, imho, is MUCH nicer than DL. I have only been to DL once, and my hubby has never been to DL!

Can't wait to go "home" in January!!!

Tracy

We are also from Northern Nevada. My DW has never been to DL, while I've been there twice. We took my brothers family to WDW the summer after they'd went to DL, and they said DL didn't compare. My DW still would like to go to DL to see for herself, so maybe one day. But we would fly down.

Hi - We're from San Jose (Evergreen) too.

We just bought into BCV a few days ago!!!

While I truly love DL - you can't take the place of the original - WDW as a whole is so much more better!! So much more to offer.

We're near Sacramento. We just joined DVC last month. DH's family is in Atlanta so we head east at least once a year. We decided that we might as well visit HH or WDW while we're in the area.

I love Disneyland but I've only been about 6 or 7 times. But hey, if I drove as fast as you and could make it there in 6 hours, I might go more often. :)

Where abouts in SF are you? I grew up in SF in the Mt Davidson/Glen Park area. I went to Mercy High School and then on to UC Davis. Did you go to school in the City or elsewhere in the Bay Area?

Cool thread. We are from the Sacramento area (Lincoln to be exact), Go Kings! :)

Anyway, we get the same thing when we go to WDW. We are very suprised when we meet members from the west coast.

Steve,
Kings are my second favorite team in the NBA, I am a season ticket holder for the Cavs(Cleveland) :( , maybe we will get the No 1 pick in next years draft(Lebron James) and turn things around.;)

We are closer to California than Florida......Arizona checking in. DVC since 1997.

Since I usually have to explain that I live in Concord not Concord, NH I just put down SF instead. So I've lived in various cities all across the Bay Area all my life. But I did attend USF...University of San Francisco, not in FL :)

I'm happy to see lots of Bay Area folks out there. Thought there might be some. My wife and I decided on DVC since she's more of a Disney fan than I am. I bought it because it gave us great options outside Disney like the Claremont Hotel in the Oakland Hills and Shutters down in Santa Monica. Plus we have a 10 month old now and another planned soon so the 6 hour plane rides to FL aren't really too smooth for us.

Hi there! DH & I love both DL & WDW! But both are different vacations IMO. We consider DL more like a weekend trip vs. WDW where it's more like a vacation since we can easily spend a week there and still have plenty to see and do. Yes, DL is very much like WDW's MK, but there's still EPCOT, MGM and AK to experience. Even the Disney hotel resorts are experiences in themselves. The LA area definitely has a lot to offer, but they're spread out so that it takes extra time to get from one place to the next while WDW is self-contained. But these are just my thoughts,...:D

Hey carriep1657! I grew up in the Mt Davidson area too! What a small world! :)

Tonyboy, I was in Concord and Walnut Creek this weekend. I wish the Bay Area weren't so expensive. I would love to move back.

PoohBear88, I thought that was a great place to grow up. It was nice and quiet in our neighborhood but it was so easy to hop a bus and get where the action was. I really miss it there.

Prices are outta control out in the Bay Area. My wife and I were lucky to buy when we did in the summer. Where in the foothills are you? My wife and I love the Gold Country but not sure that's what you mean.

Take care,
Tony

carriep1657, the neighborhood was definitely a great place to grow up in! My parents still live there so I go back often to visit. Do you still have family here?

The Bay Area home prices are pricey but they are better now than a year ago. You're both not too far away from San Francisco to visit on weekends at least. You wouldn't want to travel on weekdays anyways with all the traffic we've got!:D

Our Family lives in Southern California and we just got back Sunday from BWV. We are only 45 minutes from DL and we enjoy WDW the most. :bounce:

If it was not for the poor weather that we had on our last trip, we would consider visiting Florida more often.:sunny:

Tonyboy, we're in El Dorado Hills. So we're close to Gold Country. I agree with you and your wife, it is beautiful. We love to take visitors to the area.

PoohBear88, my dad lives in Burlingame now. He was my last family member in SF. Most of my friends have moved too. Several are in SSF or Daly City though so not too far. I know what you mean about the traffic. It's crazy. I don't miss that. :)

Seattle DVCer!

We both grew up in Calif. but have called Washington home for almost 10 years now.
We use DVC almost yearly. Members since 99. But have been going since our honeymoon in 97. Our trips will most likely be a bit more spread out now that our first child in on its way and we will no longer be DINKS (Dual Income, No Kids).

We are already planning babys first WDW trip for Jan 04.
