Any updated on OKW extensions?

This is part of my concern about the extension: I get the feeling that more are declining the offer than accepting. If there is a significant turn over in DVC OKW ownership that is one thing, what I fear is in 35 years from now original contracts will expire without the extension or being sold and ther is a complete "empty" resort that will turn into predominately CRO. I am sure I my get flamed for this but I feel if you "own" something you tend to take better care of it. Who do you think takes the towels, dishes, and phone for that matter? At first I was all for the extension until I found this board and have read the thoughts of many other owners, even just a couple of days ago I was going to send my payment but the wife and I last night discussed using that money as a down pownment towards a newer DVC property with an experation date further down the road.

And I think your plan is a FAR better use of those extention dollars too.

I am STILL WAITING for my paperwork to decline the OKW extension. I have called my guide once and Member services twice over the past 4 months about this. STILL NOTHING! Now we are getting close to February and still nothing. Anyone else have any luck getting this stuff?

Not to scare you, but we received our paperwork about 2 weeks after we called our guide. And we were sitting on the paperwork for a few weeks when we received a card from DVC saying that we had until the end of January to send the paperwork back abd receive the current incentive. Needless to say, we FedEx it back last week.

I think you misunderstood my question. Obviously, your paper work was to accept the extension. Mine is to turn back the 15 extra years.

I didn't receive my "turn-down" docs, but I was down there last week and stopped in at Saratoga Springs and they prepared them while I waited and I signed the "quit claim" documents there. One less thing to worry about - tho it did make me kinda sad. The guide that assisted me (mine is in CA) didn't know that this was possible and had to get a manager to help.

Anyway, it is pretty easy to do if anyone is going to be down "home" before the deadline.

Well, darn! I TRIED to arrange that when we were there in November, but they said they couldn't do it that way!! UGH!

that's generally true. OTOH, CRO rooms will get mousekeeping every day and if disney has to work harder to generate revenue from repeat business for OKW if it winds up >50% cash rooms, i suspect it may wind up higher on the management priority list than if they are trying to please a mostly "captive" clientele...i think the extenders might wind up with a great deal even if disney owns most of the resort.

i could be mistaken. it won't matter to me either way, as i'm hoping to use the "OKW extension money" for an add-on to AKV or CRV...

I agree totally, using extension money towards purchase of add on. Actually left v/m this morning for my quide to call me to get the process started. We will still have 35 years left at OKW as our home resort. Just thought of a questin you might have the answer for. If an add-on is purchased for a differant resort is this now your second home resort is would your original be your only home resort?

yes, it would be your second home resort. you would have 2 distinct "home resorts" - not combined or co-mingled as some people assume. and "home resort" status is only important when looking at the 11 month booking advantage and the dues you pay.

if you currently have 160 pts of OKW, it is your "home resort" for booking those 160 pts. you can book those points (if you consider banking and borrowing, that is up to 160x3=480 pts every 3rd year) that can be booked at 11 months at OKW. you pay the OKW dues rate on 160 pts each year.

now if you add-on for (say) 54 pts at AKV, then AKV is now your "home resort" for those 54 pts...if you need 160 pts to stay at AKV, then you can bank and borrow to book all 162 pts at AKV every third year starting 11 months out. you will pay the higher AKV dues on those 54 pts each year, in addition to your OKW dues.

assuming both contracts have the same use year month, the OKW would be considered the "master" contract and the AKV contract would be issued under your same membership number. all that means, from what i understand is that at 7 months, you can pool points from both contracts to make reservations at any DVC resort...if you need 12 pts to book a studio at BCV at 7 months, you can use 6 pts from OKW and 6 pts from AKV without needing to use up your one transfer a year...

make any sense? (any advice or correction from mods or others if i'm off base?)

Sorry about that. That'll teach me to drink wine while reading the boards! :teeth:
