Any Thoughts On CC After This Passes?

I know it can be unpredictable and not necessarily productive to speculate, but it looks like CC is going to be hammered pretty good by Hurricane Matthew. We've never been so don't know how "sturdy" everything is. Any thoughts on the cruises to follow shortly after as keeping that as a port of call? If there is catastrophic damage will Disney work magic to get it back up and running with crazy speed or could it be off the itinerary for awhile?

Anyone visit there shortly after another major event? (Though I know this one is one for the books)

Thanks for any insight. Just thinking ahead.

There's no really easy answer to this. Alot will depend on how close the eye gets, and what side of the storm the island is on, and how long. It hangs around the island.

it's been hit be a few hurricanes over the years...they tend to get it up and running pretty quickly though some cruises have definitely been affected....
before a hurricane they remove and tie down what they can, to minimize the damage to the extent that they can...
and then i guess they get a little army to bring it back up as soon as possible (depends on the extent of the damage)...

WDW is the same - if you've ever been there for a hurricane, they're really quite amazing at how organized they are in battening down the hatches in advance of the storm...

Just mentioned this on another thread. Our first time there was feb 2013. A storm had been through relatively recently. Some said the foliage was sparser. But our main experience, that was different from the usual experience there, is that the sand was rocky and painful. Not soft sand at all.

There's not too many structures and most are buffered a bit. That Head Up Bar might suffer because it sticks out into the water area with nothing around it.

Since CC was known to be in the path of potential hurricanes when it was developed I'm sure Disney built it to withstand hurricanes as much as possible with minimal damage. When the hurricane is past they will probably fly in a helicopter to evaluate the damage and then get folks in there to get it fixed and back to an acceptable level for guests. I'm sure getting it ready for guests will be a priority.

Maybe the sandbar at Serenity Beach won't be as large anymore allowing the opportunity to actually you know, swim in the ocean.

Thanks all. We are on the 10/17 sailing and I'm leaning more and more towards we won't be seeing CC on that trip while they undergo repairs. Bummer but not in the grand scheme of things. Just hoping this is over quickly for all in the path and that those sailing right now are OK coming home.

Agreed, I think the sand on Serenity Beach will be impacted and also vegetation. I have a stop there on Dec. 3 or 2 so I will see how much it has changed from almost 1 year ago.

If CC is not in good enough shape for guests following the hurricane, what are the options? Does DCL typically do another sea day or go to another port like Nassau?

I'm curios about this, too. We're on the Fantasy sailing for Oct. 22 (I think our stop is on the 28th). Will we just have another At Sea day if the island is not serviceable for guests? I know it can be hit or miss whether you go or not with tides and winds. We'll be sad to miss it, especially since we have members in our party that would be seeing it for the first time. But nothing you can do about it and not worth worrying or stressing over. Will be looking forward to the reports that a come before we leave (in 2 1/2 weeks...yikes)!

Could it really be affected that long?
We are on the fantasy on Oct 15th and I think CC is on Oct 21...

I scheduled to be there on the Magic next week. I'm hoping for the best and it's a top 5 reason why I cruise Disney. But you just hope people who live in the path of the storm are okay.

It could possibly be that long. It all depends on what gets damaged. If the pier takes a hit, and the ships cant tie up. all bets are off. If they have to rebuild the support areas like sewage, water power, it could take weeks.

Depends on the itinerary. If its the Fantasy prob a sea day. Dream 4 day might go to Freeport or double up on Nassau. All depends on what pier space is available if/when that happens.

According to Wikipedia it took Disney like 18 months to build Castaway Cay no? If the beach lines are ruined, if the housing CMs are living in damaged, the dock, etc out of service, man I don't know!
How many CMs live there? 100? 200? If Disney has to restore all their homes, redredge the beaches, etc. it could be one week but could easily be next year in my mind depending on damage.
It's taken them 5 plus years to build Pandora on mainland US. I just do not equate Disney with speedy.

We're on this cruise as well. I'm hoping we'll make it to CC but there is always the chance we won't. We could have a sea day or they may add a port like St Martin or San Juan since we'll already be by those ports and they have established relationships with the ports and suppliers. I'll have to see how many other ships are scheduled to be there that day too. There may not be space.

I'd be really happy actually if they swapped CC for St.Maarten.. But it probably won't happen on our cruise because we are Western.
