Any STAR WARS Prequel Lovers Out There?

I, myself, pretty much loathe the prequels, but I'm a huge fan of the original (good) trilogy. So, if you really do enjoy the prequels, if you think they are every bit as good as, if not better than, the original movies, tell me why you love them so much.

Who knows, you may even cause me to come around. Though that's highly unlikely...

While I don't think that the films in and of themselves are better than the first, there are parts in the prequels (mostly the fight and podracer scenes) that are pretty good. Mostly that is just the advances in CGI and special effects, but it did give characters more freedom to do things that they would have otherwise not been able to (Yoda fighting). Had Lucas got someone besides himself to write the script, I think they may have been much much better.

Would my life be incomplete if the prequels had never been created? No.

The easy answer for me is Ewan McGregor. For you, I would have to say the easy answer would be Natalie Portman. Maybe. If you like her type.

Actually, I don't really care for any of the Star Wars films, but my husband does, so for him, I watch and enjoy the stories (old and new) and think about the adventure and fun and the creativity George Lucas created.

I think the entire series is just a fairly good wholesome adventure that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Those are rare these days and that is part of the appeal for me.

I thought the prequels were dreadful.

Lame dialogue and very, very boring.

The films seemed to be all about CGI, at the expense of everything that makes a movie interesting.

JMHO.

I liked Ewan McGregor too. The 3rd one wasn't too bad. Maybe because he's in it so much. The first one was dreadful.

I'm not a huge fan of them, but my kids are. As a result, I end up seeing them more than I saw the first three in the theatre. It's a rare week where I haven't seen all three movies.

The stories make a lot of sense, if you take out the wooden portrayals (not a Hayden Christiansen fan, sorry). When "Phantom Menace" came out, I was pg with younger son-and I stuck up for Jar Jar Binks. After seeing the third, I changed my tune-it was ALL Jar Jar's fault. He set the wheels in motion for Palpatine to become Emperor.

I'm tempted to bring out all the star wars books I have for the kids to enjoy. They're kind of beat up already, though.

Oh, and can I say that I love my Laserdisc copies of Episodes 4, 5 and 6? It was really disturbing to watch the DVD of 6 and see Hayden Christiansen's face instead of the older gentleman's at the very end. I'm glad I can see a version that hasn't been altered so much.

They released the original versions on DVD. When they realized the original trilogy on DVD, you had to buy all 3, now you can buy them separately, and they have the original version/new version. 'Cause I know what you mean--my 8 & 4 yr old nieces are getting into Star Wars, and that scene has generated many conversations. They want to know why Anakin looks like that at the end, and not Ben. I keep meaning to show them the original version.

Exhibit B (right after Exhibit A--the prequels were complete crap) as to why George Lucas is really a giant hack of a director--he doesn't know when to quit tinkering with (raping?) his previously superior creations.

Well, that, and the fact that he wouldn't know a good line of dialogue if it bit him on the ****.

One more example of George Lucas's greedy hackitude (that's a word, right?). He tried to give the appearance that he was finally listening to the outcry of the fans by giving them the Han-shoots-first, Hayden Christensen-free versions of the original trilogy, but how does he release them? As half-assed "bonus features" on DVDs of the "special editions", and the original cuts aren't even remastered in anamorphic widescreen or Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. All they are, in fact, are direct transfers of those very same laserdisc versions that you have, which were made in 1995. When questioned about this, his minions have come up with the lame excuse that the '95 laserdisc transfers are the only copies available of the original versions. Riiiiiight. I'm sure that whenever Lucasfilm releases the mega-super-deluxe DVD box set of all the movies (complete with deleted scenes), they'll say that, much to their surprise, they stumbled upon some more recent, pristine prints of the original trilogy, and that that was what enabled them to release the original versions in a gussied up form.

With Lucas, it's all about the money.

I love the prequels. TPM, not so much, because it was just lame. The best part of it was Ray Park. He was spectacular. AOTC, I loved it. You could just see all the wheels starting to turn and the pieces falling into place for the creation of the Empire. The love story was good (yes, I like sappy romances) and I LOVE the Arena Battle. As for ROTS, it's 0.0000000000000000001 points behind ROTJ for my favorite SW film ever. Phenominal musical score, amazing lightsaber fights, awesome villains (LOVE Grievous), darkness and twistedness, Anakin's tragic fall... oh, I just LOVE that movie! I need to see it again.... :scratchin

The bad thing about the prequels is mainly dialogue. For every lame line in the films I could have written a dozen better ones. Another is Hayden Christensen's delivery. The worst: "It's not fair!" from AOTC. That was so lame; I know what "It's not fair" feels like and he had no feeling in it. But I have to forgive him for his lameness in AOTC because of his absolutely stellar performance in ROTS. He really was great in that movie.

Can't wait for the television and cartoon series. It will come out in a year or two. Hooray!

Please, explain the logic underlying your conclusion.

well my favs are as follows

empire
sith
jedi
new hope
attack of the clones
menace

sith to is just alittle better than jedi those ewoks kill me
I think the transofrmation to darth vader and fight scenes really make that movie something spectacluar and its ties alot up whoch wasnt easy to do
and sam jackson is great when he bites the dustI wish lucas would go in though and take the emperor from sith and use his face and voice in jedi and the parts he is in empire

from movies.com

Chicago Sun-Times 3½ stars/4 "… a return to the classic space opera style that launched the series."
Chicago Tribune N/A "… a smashing success on its own terms, achieving exactly what Lucas wanted and carrying most of its viewers where they want to go."
FilmCritic.com 4 stars/5 "Finally, Lucas delivers the film we've been waiting for …"
The Hollywood Reporter N/A "… watching each piece fall into place is genuinely thrilling."
New York Post 3 stars/4 "… the Force is definitely with Lucas this time."
The New York Times N/A "This is by far the best film in the more recent trilogy, and also the best of the four episodes Mr. Lucas has directed … it's better than "Star Wars.""
USA Today 3½ stars/4 "It's the darkest of the six-film opus, but it just may be the best of the lot."
Variety N/A "… the best in the overall series since "The Empire Strikes Back.""

I don't like them as much as the original trilogy, but I have watched them because I am a huge Star Wars fan! :) My kids really like them though, I think better then the originals. Must be a generation thing? LOL

Liam Neeson in The Phantom Menace does it for me.

Also, watching PM with a 5 year old is just a really, really wonderful experience. My son sat on the edge of his chair muttering at the screen during all of the action. It's a neat feeling to watch another generation of Star Wars lovers come into being.

Other than that, the prequels are only okay. The original three episodes are superior in every way.

Hmm. I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. First off, my ranking of the whole series would be:

1. Empire
2. A New Hope
3. Jedi
(A distant)4. Sith
5. Phantom Menace
6. Clones

Now then. As for Anakin's turning to the Dark Side in Sith, that's my biggest complaint with the whole movie. To say that it's farfetched for Anakin to be capable of slaying little kids because he's worried about his wife's health is putting it very mildly. And, as for Sam Jackson, his acting in the prequels was so laughable that it was a mildly jarring experience to watch Black Snake Moan and realize that, yes, the man still can actually act.

realize, Lucas had a great VISION, but his follow through sucked.

Hayden is a good actor, it was the directing and editing that doomed these performances.

but yes I like the prequels,

two words sum it up for me

1. Maul
2.Clones

I do like the originals better though, its what I grew up with.

It will be interesting to see how much Lucas messes with the upcoming clones cartoon series and live action series, lets hope all he does is write the check.
