Any security changes at WDW?

I was there before, during and after the bombing. No noticeable difference.

My experience was the opposite. I just returned from a 10 day stay and every park, on every day of my visit, searched much more thoroughly than they had during my visits just a month earlier.

Bag checks are never completely effective in and of themselves, but they can be an important part of a larger security plan. As others have stated, they provide a good way to allow the crowd to be checked out using means in addition to the bag checks. It should also be noted that a number of firearms have been found via the bag check, so apparently it is somewhat effective.

I agree. Not only does it slow down the crowd to be scrutinized, but also serves as a deterrent. Psychos with weapons may chose an easier target.

As mentioned above, even a quick search should be able to turn up a gun.

not sure if this has been said - but a huge part of security anywhere now needs to be the average person alerting police/security if and when they see something suspicious happen... bags left unattended, etc. This has been pretty common here in the NYC area for many years - and sadly I think more are aware to do it now because of Boston. Security is a job for us all.... Disney, I have no doubt, does what it can.

A friend of mine is a security consultant and has done work with the Disney Corp. While he cannot share specifics (obviously) he says that Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom are some of the most closely scrutinized places he's worked at with blankets of security covering nearly every inch of the parks. That doesn't mean that they are impenetrable and things cannot happen, but they are some of the safest places on earth. So relax, be aware of your surroundings, and have a great trip.

Ah, yes some skittish guests will be reassured. However, this guest (not necessarily skittish ) would think differently.

If I go somewhere and see uniformed officers and K-9 units at a place I don't normally see them, my first reaction would be "what do they know that I don't know, why are they here today". I would much rather not see them but know they will come out of sewer drains if necessary if something does happen.).

Sure. But I posted that within a day or so of the Boston bombing and they were there because there had just been a major terrorist attack and the terrorists were still at large. GENERALLY, I agree with you and if I arrived at the MK on a random day to a K-9 vehicle I would be concerned. But there was no question why, that day.

My son actually works security at the World. I don't want to say what he does but there is always a lot of security around. There are Orange County Officers at every bag check, even if you don't see them, K-9's, homeland security. Every resort has 24 hour security plus security managers. Disney takes security very seriously.
We were there right after 9/11 and saw the changes in security.

When I did the KTTK tour yesterday, the CM gave us a big talk about how safety and security are some of the most important things to WDW, then he walked our group up main street from Goofys Candy Co, to down the little street to the right further up where the caricature drawers sit. He asked us how many undercover security guys we'd passed - none of us had seen any. He said we'd walked right past six different guards - really cool! Near the end I asked how often MK has to deliberately call the police out to the park, and he said almost never - their security is too tight to need it.
