There are quite a few downsides to metal detectors that make them impractical for use at the WDW parks, but it isn't true that they do not increase security.
You are misreading. I didn't say they don't increase security. I said they won't make you safe. Safety is a game of illusion. Nothing Disney can and will do will make us 100% safe. IMO any safer. People like this, will find a way around. They can put metal detectors in place, search bags, run scopes over our clothing... All an illusion. All makes people feel warm and fuzzy and safe, but the bottom line is that if someone wants to get a bomb or something like this to take out a bunch of people, they will find a way. And the biggest thing they have on their side, is complacency. Give it a year, or 5. People will "forget" all about this event, just like 9/11 and will get complacent. Makes it much easier for criminals.
I think people react in situations like this and want a big show of "security" because it makes them feel safer. Truth is, nothing will ever protect you and make you safe from things like this happening. That's why I say it's an illusion.
