Any remedies for facial acne (not proactive)?

Well I work for Clinique so I would tell you to go to your local counter and explain to the consultant what is happening to your skin. We have a whole anti acne line including an antibacterial soap to clean your skin, a spot healing gel to target blemishes that has salicylic acid. If the spot healing gel doesn't work, we have another gel that has benzoylperoxide in it that is a little stronger. Any consultant will explain to you why it's happening and how to treat and prevent it. And yes, you do need to use it for a while to see any kind of result. That holds true for any skincare product. Let me know if I can help you out at all.
Good luck!

I swear by the Clinique facial soaps.(I use the bar for type 2 skin) They have eliminated my breakouts almost completely. I have not used their acne products but a friend with a college age daughter said they had tried everything and the Clinique products were the best for acne.

Smells like butt - but clears up acne like no one's business. I promise.

Where's the tag fairy when you need her?? ;)

Subscribing because I would like to hear more opinions too! The only thing that has worked for me so far was Accutane (for a short while), but my doctor advised against more than one cycle of the drug. Klear Action worked (the generic of Proactive) but it is way too drying!!! I can get rid of the acne with it, but it accelerate the wrinkles!!!

Clear Complexetion line by Aveeno. Buy them at CVS & you can return them if they don't work. I go between the 2 because I get bored using the same thing all the time.

After years of using the spendy stuff, Estee Lauder, I recently switched at the advice of a dermatologist to Cetaphil cleanser. Now everyone in the house uses it and I have noticed a difference. My son also has an RX cream called DUAC (SP?)that is topical and it seems to really help.

I never had acne in my youth. I started getting it when I had my daughter. I can't use anything harsh. No proactive or the like, tried salasylic (sp?), clydominicin (sp?).

Any ideas out there. I take Doxycylcine or minocycline when it gets systic, but I hate taking the antibiotics....

Anyone have a magic wand to wave???
Any chance you have Rosacea?

I also eventually went the Accutane route as well. I had really bad hormonal acne along my jawline and neck. Weird, right? My derm tried EVERYTHING and finally asked if I would like to try Accutane. It was kind of a pain to take, but so worth it. It really cleared it up and now I take Yasmin birth control pills and my skin is the best it has ever been. I took Accutane when I was 32. I wish someone had prescribed it to me when I was 19....would have saved me a lot of stress and heartache.

Accutane really worked for me too, but unfortunately only for a short while after. BC pills helped, but caused me to gain weight so I went off them. I guess I may have to think about going on them again as my acne definitely seems to be hormone related.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo works like a charm for me. I moisturize with Moisturel lotion too.

My dermatologist told me to stick with 10% benzoyl peroxide. So here's what I do...

Night - get rid of makeup with Clinique wash-away gel cleanser. Wash with Clean and Clear 10% BP facial scrub. Use Clinique clarifying lotion (level 2 in winter, level 3 in summer). Use Persa-Gel on top of that, then Clinique Dramatically Different Gel.

Morning - wash with Clinique mild facial soap and put on Clinique DDG, then makeup.

My skin hasn't been even a quarter as bad as it used to be since I started doing this! The only time I have breakouts now are when the seasons change - that seems to wreak havoc on my skin.

For adult onset acne in women sometime it is an imbalance with your hormones - You may want to ask your Derm about Spironolactone. This is the same thing in Yasmin that helps so many, it is not however a birthcontrol. My SIL did 3 rounds of Accutane (she would get clear then her acne would come back) then finally her derm put her on Spironolactone and she is clear for the first time in years. I've just started spironolactone to see if it will help my skin. So far I am clearing but not completely clear yet. On the plus side it also gets rid of extra water weight - lol so I have lost a couple pounds since starting it too. Here is a forum for acne and I'll put in a link for the spironolactone thread. Not everything works for everybody but if you have acne and have tried everything and nothing helps I'd look into Spironolactone.

Thanks for the links to the message boards and the info on Spironolactone :)

My son's 15 and I bought the ProActiv kit for $100. They warned me his acne would get worse before it got better but, unfortunately for him, his is cystic and he's had to go back on Tetracycline. I'm not a big believer in antibiotics either but the kid's in highschool and that's hard enough so I don't want him feeling self conscious on top of that.

His dermatologist also recommended the Cetaphil cleanser because it's less irritating (he found the ProActiv to be drying too). He's scent and texture sensitive so it's hard to find something that doesn't have a scent to it - the texture part he just has to accept - it's cream or lotion, it's going to be wet ...

I'm subscribing so I can also see what everyone else is using. I think the Wal-Mart product someone was referring to was called "Bye Bye Blemish"

I feel your pain. My DS is almost 14 and has cystic acne. We tried the Proactiv but it made his face so red and dry and itchy I was afraid he was going to cause scars with the scratching. He is on tetracycline right now and Retin-A and it has helped a little. He has an appointment with the derm in October and they will probably suggest Accutane but DS hates needles and would need blood work with the Accutane and as much as I dislike the chronic antibiotics the side effects with Accutane don't thrill me either. I had occasional pimples in high school but nothing like my poor DS. :guilty:

I started taking tetracycline when I was 12...took it until I was 30. And I have discolored teeth to show for it, nothing else.

My saving grace came via HSN. I found Serious Skin Care

I started off with the basic 5 pc kit...I have never had skin so clear! The line has something for everyone :thumbsup2

Well, that's my 2 cents worth ;)
