Any recommendations for great sushi?

Adult daughter and I are taking a girl trip for her birthday. She would like sushi for one meal. Would appreciate any suggestions for a great sushi experience. Thanks!

We really love Tokyo Dining - both the sushi and tempura are great (and I'm not usually a tempura fan). The service has always been good for us there as well.

Also had some good sushi at Kona (and the Kona Isle - think that's the name - sushi bar adjacent to it).

It depends on what you're looking for. For the kind of offerings you'd find in your local good-quality sushi bar, Kimonos is great. They've got a good selection of really fresh fish and simpler rolls. If you like karaoke, you can go there later in the evening and partake. Earlier it's more of a convention crowd. Still a nice bar atmosphere but without the karaoke shenanigans.

California Grill is best if you'd like more creative rolls. They have sampler plates with a few rolls and nigiri that seems pretty popular. Their Spicy Kazan Roll is, in my opinion, one of the best rolls I've ever had. People also like their Snake in the Grass roll. I recommend having dinner in the lounge, though the dining room is, of course, nice as well.

If you want something more casual and less pricey, the Kona Island Sushi bar is also very good. An additional bonus is that you can also order from the Kona Café's menu if you want something other than sushi. They've got great appetizers and I love the pineapple bread they serve at dinnertime.

Any of these places is great for an adult dinner, especially if you guys want to have a cocktail or two with your meal.

I've tried sushi at Tokyo Dining, California Grill, Sunshine Seasons, and Kimonos. Kimonos has definitely trumped all the others. Everything is just so fresh and amazing. I would also recommend the Sake Sangria if you're looking for an adult beverage

Still haven't tried Kona's Sushi but I'm excited to this spring.

I personally don't eat sushi. My husband loves it. He absolutely loves the spicy kazan roll at California Grill. He tried the snake in the grass too on our last trip, and he liked it as well. He looks forward to eating there every trip!!!

If you truly love sushi, if you eat it pretty often--- then I wouldn't necessarily get it while at Disney. From what I have experienced and heard from others, it's mostly rather mediocre sushi. Kimono's, I haven't experienced, but it's the only one that I've seen that gets consistently good reviews.
We had the sushi at California Grill -- I found it to be rather mediocre maki. Not bad at all -- no complaints. But not any better than what I find at the 5 sushi restaurants within a mile from my home.

If you're simply craving sushi -- Tokyo Dining, the Kona Sushi Bar -- all have passable edible sushi.

I've had sushi in Japan at Epcot and also at Kimonos, and between the two I prefer Kimonos.

That being said, there was nothing 'wrong' with either experience-- just a preference for the larger selection at Kimonos.

I second Kimonos. The sushi was great and you can purchase gift cards at a discount from Restaurant.com. DH and I did this in October and were able to order more expenseive/creative rolls than we would normally order.

I've enjoyed a great selection at Kimono's and a limited, but fresh and well-made selection at Kona Island Cafe. The atmosphere at each location is different, if that matters. Kimono's is lounge-like and Kona is small, but open to the lobby and bright. Hope this helps!

This is true. The sushi I had at Kona was fine, but I've never had anything to eat at Disney that I would call "great."

If you are going for a celebratory birthday dinner, then California Grill has pretty good sushi and an awesome view of the MK fireworks. I had the spicy kazan roll, which was really hot, but had good flavor. The California Roll, was pretty ordinary, so not something I'd order again. The menu had a lot of other interesting options.

Kimonos was good - although the setting was a bit more "business hotel". We tried the sashimi at CG and it was really amazing.

It really depends on how you define sushi.
Authentic sushi is simply the highest quality fish, paired very simply with salts, soy, rice....

The crazy Maki combination rolls are purely an American innovation. (Pioneered in California).

It's like looking for the best pizza -- 1 place has a coal oven, uses the freshest tomatoes for the sauce, hand made mozzarella cheese....
Compared to another place that combines Cajun shrimp and radishes on the pizza.

If you're looking for truly great authentic-style sushi -- while it is served at Disney -- you won't find great versions of it. You won't get a piece of toro so fatty that it lusciously melts in your mouth (real sushi lovers know what I mean).

But if you're looking for the California adaption to sushi -- adapting the sushi to lots of wild combinations -- then something like the Spicy Kazzan Roll is indeed fun and tasty.
But it won't transcend like a truly wonderful piece of fatty tuna.

I vote Kimonos, its a little businessy, but its got more variety, I liked it a little better than California Grill for sushi. (if you want fireworks with your sushi though, then California Grill can't be beat)
