After 2 trips to Disney and being severely dissappointed with my videos done on my cameras (and yes I have a DSLR!) i've decided to invest in a small camcorder. Many different brands and models to choose from any recommendations to help narrow the list? I'd like HD and am hoping to keep it under $300.
Thanks
Erin

Have no idea about price. I think I read somewhere that all the camcorders now are HD.

I just bought a Canon HF G10 that is great. However it is pricey. Around $1,000.

I went with it for the low light.

What DSLR do you have that you've used for video? Depending on the model it may be capable of much better quality than a $300 or less camcorder. Also, what do you plan to do with the video? What features do you want? Lots of zoom?

it's not going to get used a whole lot, so my requirements are basic. HD some zoom. My camera is a Nikon D90 and the videos I took did not come out great. I do have OTHER reasons for wanting a video only I just don't want to break the bank either.

If you know the reasons why you want a low end camcorder that should help you narrow down what features you want. From there it's just a little research to find one that fits what you need. THere are just too many variables and models to say "this one is perfect for you". I'd look at Sony, Panasonic, Canon or JVC. None of them will be outstanding in that price range but they should give you decent video with adequate light. In low light you'll be better off with a fast lens on your D90.

thanks, I haven't really been able to research yet (never enough hours in a day).
There are lots of cameras out there, so I was just hoping someone might say, Hey I have this one I liked it, thought it did an ok job, or hey I have this don't get it because it's awful type thing. just helps narrow down what there is to look at and a more concentrated research effort on certain models.

The problem is a lot of those personal recommendations are really slanted by personal preferences and skill level. What's awful for one person may be awesome for another.
