Any recent (within the past week) updates on upgrading AP to AP+ with DVC discount?

I ran a thread a few weeks ago and we had all sorts of different scenarios in terms of whether CMs were allowing the upgrade from regular APs (for those of us who bought them prior to the DVC discount) to the AP+.

Some people were told flat no, some were actually given the $5 back, and some had to fight for the discount. In just about all cases where the upgrade was granted, the expiration date remained the same.

We are going to WLV in 17 days, have APs purchased in November, and want to know what we are up against.

Anbody recently done the upgrade in the last week?

I did it a couple of weeks ago, and I had to pay $15 to change to a PAP, up from my AP. Everyone was willing to change it in without any trouble, but the cost to me changed. At the back entrance to Epcot, they didn't know what they were doing. So I went to Guest Services at the front of Epcot, and they charged me $15, which was a good price, I thought, so I took it. The expiration stayed the same, in my case that means I will need to renew it on December 23. :teeth:

I just upgraded from a AP to a premium AP 3/15/05
My AP was scheduled to expire 10/19/05
My new Premium AP expires 11/22/05
Cost me $15.98
Did it at guest services at MK

Thanks for the info. We bought our AP's in mid-December and are hoping to upgrade them in late May if the cost is not too much extra. $15 doesn't seem unreasonable although it seems that the extra cost should be going down when the expiration date doesn't change from the original. :) It's too bad that the "story" is different depending on where one tries to renew. :( If it gets much higher, we probably won't bother since PI is about the only place that we would like to go.

I have been wondering about this too. We have AP's bought at full price last summer before we joined DVC and I was wondering what the best way to upgrade them might be if we go back this June.

For those of you who did this & had the expiration change - what was the reason for that? I thought when you upgraded that you kept your original expiration.

Thanks!

We upgraded our APs to PAPs 6 days from their expiration. When we explained that we wanted to upgrade to PAPs at the DVC discount, the CM got a "pinched face" expression, and didn't seem to understand why we wouldn't just renew them. I explained that we would not be returning soon enough to make a renewal fiscally sensible....and a renewel was not what we wanted.

The CM began the upgrade, then left the window, and after she consulted with the manager the transaction went fine. We had a $20 credit according to the CM, but they Disney was no longer refunding that cash to the customer (I think that was what the manager consultation was about). We were glad to have the chance to upgrade for free. That was a great DVC perk. It also means our next purchase will be PAPs, as our kids are getting older and they really liked the water park/DQ options.

Don't know why your being charged $15 now, unless the original price you paid for the AP was less than last years rates.??

Wow, I didn't even know this was an option (gotta love these boards). We purchased our AP's in December and will be back in June (woo hoo). The kids LOVE the water parks, so upgrading for $15 will actually SAVE me money. Plus, now I won't feel quilty about only spending a few hours in DisneyQuest ;)

Thank you!!!!!

Bump. I would love to upgrade and have any extension of our passes. They expire during our next trip, three days before we leave and we don't go back for six months. I would love to extend their expiration through our next trip, then buy new in the fall if that is possible. :flower:

From what was posted I do not think the expiration dates have changed on any of the passes.
You are just upgrading to your current expiration date.

What ID do you need to do the upgrade. We have only received the paperwork with an ID card, is that enough or do I need something else? I have read mention of a Key to the World card which we haven't received yet. However, we are going down soon and I would like to upgrade.

The only itmes you need are your DVC membership card and a picture ID (like a Drivers' license) that matches your membership card.

You do not need the KTTW card - that's just your resort ID/room key and has nothing to do with getting the DVC discount on APs/PAPs.

Best wishes-

A previous poster said that their expiration stayed the same.
I would check with member services to get an "official" anwser.

Right, but I thought your post said that no one's expiration date had been extended.

Calling member services might not get me the same answer that I would get once I am at WDW and trying to upgrade. I think that some of us realize it might be helpful if we get any additional info from anyone who indicates that their expiration date was extended. That might be helpful in getting an extension on our own passes.

So, Skelooch or anyone?? :flower:

Tinkmom,
I don't know why my expiration date changed, it just did and I wasn't about to question it, why look a gift horse in the mouth. I didn't expect that it was going to change, perhaps the guest relations CM made some mistake. All I know is I got an extra month out of the upgrade. Ya win some and Ya lose some, just lucky this time I guess.
I did the upgrade at the Guest Relations Window at MK, I will admit the CM did seem a little confused when I told her what I was trying to do.

Good Luck with your upgrade

We purchased AP's before our trip last November. Of course, I felt so cheated when the news of a DVC discount came out. Now I hope the upgrade process goes well. ;)

What kind of trouble do you all think I will have if I try to do this at International Gateway? Staying at BCV it sure would be nice to be able to get this taken care of just minutes from our villa. :wizard:

We have 3 adult AP's and 1 child. It still blows me away that my DD11 is old enough in Disney's eyes to cost as much as an adult. princess:

Anyway, Typhoon Lagoon here we come. Have always gone to BB, but thought we'd give TL a try.
