Any reason to check in online with Delta?

Is there any reason to check in on-line ahead of time with an airline like Delta? I'm very familiar with Southwest and the reasons for checking in on-line ahead of time with them, but since we have seats assigned with Delta, I don't see the reason for doing so. But, perhaps there's something I'm not aware of. We've flown SW for the last 5 years, so I'm fairly clueless about the other airlines, but Delta surprisingly had the best price for our return flight in March.

The only reason is so that you can by-pass the check-in line at the airport. But if you are checking bags anyway, that doesn't help.

I think it's always a good idea to check in- print boarding passes before you go, if for no other reason they know you are on "your way" and less likely to lose your seats or have them given away.
Also, sometimes Delta gives extra miles for cheking in online. I'm not certain if they are doing that at this time.

Also, some airports offer curbside check-in, so even if you do have luggage, by using it and having BPs, you're able to go directly to the gate.:thumbsup2

If you want to use the Resort Airline Checkin at your Disney resort, you SHOULD NOT use online checkin with Delta because then the RAC desk can't take your bags.

I only use the online check-in if they are offering extra FF miles for doing so.

With United using online check in I can change seats, stand by for an earlier flight, upgrade my flight and/or earn miles.

Plus on the rare occassion when an involuntary denied boarding needs to take place, time of check in is one of the items considered.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think if it's convenient, we'll do it just on the off-chance that the flight is overbooked. We're leaving Monday after Spring Break so I don't anticipate any problems with a full flight, but it sounds like it doesn't hurt anything since we're not doing ME.

Curbside check-in will print your boarding passes for you, no need to do it ahead of time.

We usually fly SWA, so those BPs are in our hot little hands 24 hours beforehand!:teeth:
But that is good to know if we fly a legacy airline in the future. Thanks for the info.:thumbsup2

And the curbside guys can check your luggage and print a boarding pass. As a DL Frequent Flyer I only bother to check in on line if I am doing carry on only and only then at ATL. (That's just to speed things up at that airport)

I wouldn't worry about it if I don't get to check in online.

If you are not checking bags, you can save lots of time. If you are checking bags, its a waste of time...

United is nicer. You can change seats on Delta. That's it. Change flight, no. Upgrades are already in process and you just have to wait and see, check in on line does not "move you up" the list.
