Any problems with Delta?

Just wanted to get some opinions on Delta...

We usually fly SW to Orlando but they have cut some of their flights to from Columbus, OH so we went with Delta b/c of the earlier arrival time.

But I am worried :worried:...and here is why...

My dh flys every week for work and for the past two weeks he has flown Delta. Last Friday he was returning home from Orlando on a 9:30 a.m. flight. The had to deboard b/c of no air conditioning and then were delayed until 2:30 p.m. At 2:30 pushed back to 5:30 p.m. and then at 5:30 p.m. canceled. Luckily my smart dh made another reservation on another airline at 2:00 so he was able to get home that night. Never an explanation from Delta, btw.

This past Monday he flew to Newark, NJ and there were problems with this flight too. They sat on the runway for two hours, then had to come back to the gate and switch planes. He still doesn't know why.

So now you know why I am worried...I planned this trip so that we could get there early and have a full day upon arrival, but if I have to sit in the airport all day I will be so angry. :furious:

Did I make a mistake not flying SW? We have always had such luck with SW, even flying there the day before Hurricane Jeanne with not even a delay!

Does anyone have good or bad stories about Delta (hopefully good)?

I have routinely flown with Delta/Song for the past 8 yrs. Have yet to have a problem, other than the myriad of time/flight changes they make. But, nothing mechanical as of yet. But, it could happen with any aircraft. Flew NW and they had to cancel flights due to mechanical failures, same with Continental. Happens to all of them.

My DS flew SW on Monday (delayed 2 hours)

She flew home last eve SW (delayed 2 hours)

Guess it can happen with any airline. :confused3

I flew Delta PIT/ATL this morning, no problem. In fact, the plane was going to Columbus next.

I'm Gold Medallion on Delta and have always found them to be very accomodating when there was a mechanical delay.

On the other hand I was delayed for 36 hours on United (just got home tonite and was supposed to get home early yesterday) out of Newark with NO offer of compensation, no apologies, no cab fare from Newark to LaGuardia to White Plains when they kept rebooking me to alternate airports (United flat out REFUSED to pay for any transportation of any kind), no hotel voucher, or no meal vouchers. I finally got from White Plains to Chicago on the 6am flight and then sat in Chicago for 6 1/2 hours on yet ANOTHER delay - again NO apologies for the inconvenience, no food vouchers, no offer of anything.

I was about ready to crawl over to the Delta counter in Chicago and use my own Skymiles to get me home! I hope I never have to fly anything BUT Delta again.

My son had 3 planes with a mechanical problem on US Air end of May. Took all day to get home from West Palm to Charlestom. He could have drove it faster. I know if a plane is going to have a problem it needs to be on the ground, But 3 times. We were starting to get scared. We love Delta. Using them in 2 weeks for a Carribean flight, sure hope all is fine. We are taking whole family, even my mom.
