Any other police officers who have stayed at Disney?

you are right about that. I am married to an officer, my father and two of his brothers were officers (and retired from it) my father teaches cwp classes and I work in a police department. Officers carry on and off duty no matter what. We will be going down in April with my parents and I am sure that both my husband and my father will be "packing heat" ;) . It's not that they want to "take the law into their own hands" or help Disney security do their job, or even that they feel inscure or are out to prove how tough they are, they are taught to always expect the unexpected and you can never be too careful when you travel-- no matter where you go.

just curious as to what safe it would not fit into? we have never had a problem with it not fitting?:confused3

I was going to comment on this also. One will fit, along with a checkbook/wallet combo, and prescription meds. The room safes are not huge. They look small and are, but you can fit it in.

don't you know God made firemen so cops could have heros too:thumbsup2

and btw my husband is both;)

Same here! DH is a full time FF/P and a reserve officer and SWAT. He does not take the paramedic bag or his off duty weapon in the parks, but we definitely take them. Fortunately, we've never needed the weapon, but we have needed the bag.

this was a very interesting thread and i am glad i stumbled upon it --- it's obvious from my screen name that my dh is a cop and yes, he carries his glock everywhere he goes, everywhere --- he has a soft holster and carries it in the small of his back hooked to his pants/shorts...it is well concealed as he always wears 2x shirts, for that reason...

we will be flying to disney in May so i guess i need to put a call into our airline to see their procedure as i now know disney's procedure...

in regards to him always carrying off duty...it has absolutely nothing to do with his machismo --- it has everything to do with our safety --- dh has had a knife pulled on him, a gun pulled on him, his life has been verbally threatened, along with our lives as his family ---

because of this our city allows us to fill out a form and all of our information is taken off of public records, it's almost as if we don't exist --- which is fine by me --- the scariest time was on his day off and walking around the mall and dh seeing some gang banger he arrested ... he stared us down as dh led us out pretty quickly --- was i happy he had his off duty weapon, heck yeah!

thanks for your service! And, not that this was what you asked, but just thought I'd say I, for one, find absolutely nothing wrong with a responsible citizen/officer carrying your firearm at Disney or anywhere else. It's your right and whatever it takes for you to be comfortable and keep your precious family safe, then that's exactly what you should do. That's exactly what I'd do. God bless and have a wonderful trip.

I just wanted to tell all of the police officers on this thread THANK YOU for all you do! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Pdmedic- I noticed you are from the Kansas City area, as am I. I would like to take the time to thank you very much for the job you are doing to keep our community safe. As a single mom the safety of my children is always first and foremost in my mind. The fact that there are people such as yourself who have dedicated thier lives to helping others makes me rest a little easier. Thank you once again.

I always bring my weapon to to disney when i travel and leave it locked in the room unless we are going to leave the resort area and adventure into orlando.

Wow...what responses you have had!

From a police officer's wife point of view. We live in the metro Atlanta area. In the past 16 years of my hubby's law enforcement career we have NEVER taken a vacation where he has not seen someone that either he knows or that knows him from his job. That includes our 4 previous trips to Disney. When someone strikes up a conversation in public that he knows (from his profession) we have a code word. If I hear him say that, me and the kids will go off away from him. There have been times when the person may have wanted to do us harm, or for what ever reason my husband thought there might be a problem.

When we are in the parks he does not carry his off duty weapon, but everywhere else, he carries it. Never thought it would be a prolem for anyone...especially since no one knows he has it!

Wow, you must not see him at all. I know this is completely OT but I asm totally curious how one could possibly be both. I'm even more curious how one could be a cop, paramedic and ff all at the same time. I can't even imagine what that schedule is like!

I'm only curious because DH's contract does not allow for both. I know many FD have the 24 hour shifts and maybe it would be possible with that schedule but his is 3 on/3 off rotating over a 12 day period. He does a security gig per diem and it is very difficult for him even to fit that around his schedule.

DH spends an average of 112-120 hours/week at work. I think I'd lose it if he attempted to be a cop also which is why I am glad his contract doesn't allow for it

You are joking, correct? Why not leave the security of the park to the Disney security and LBV police?

I wouldn't count on the security of the room safes in the rooms. There have been reports of thefts from the room safes.

disney security is a joke they make a half hearted attempt at searching bags if any one wanted to take a weapon in just put it in your back pocket, as for the op i understand what you are trying to sort out

Wow there seem to be a lot of multi rated people in here, I don't feel that unusual. As for how you do both or all three it's not that bad. There are some places that utilize "public safety" officers that are Police / Fire / EMS you keep bunker gear and a trauma bag in the trunk of your patrol car and respond that way or if your working the ambulance or fire truck you have your patrol gear with you.

I work full time as a police officer for a state agency and then work part time as a paramedic. I also maintain my fire fighter certificate as well as some technical rescue training (underwater, high angle) and my haz-mat tech cert.

I work on my departments hazardous materials team and have been trained for WMD response if it is needed.

Your right Disney Security is a deterrent but does not effectively check for concealed weapons since they only check your carried bags and not your person. Most people who carry a concealed weapon carry it on them and have it placed where it is not immediately noticeable (Thus Concealed) which the Security would not find. In fact I have read other places of numerous people carrying inside the parks because of this.

That being said I started this thread looking for the information to comply with Disney policies which I was able to locate by calling Disney with the answer being they have lock boxes available at the parks or the resort front desk or you can lock it in your room safe. As for the safes I believe the ones that had problems were the ones that you swiped a card to open not the key safes which are in the resort I'm staying at.

To the guys who said their departments require them to carry a gun at all times while off duty, does that mean that they're never allowed to go to a bar and have a few drinks? I'm genuinely curious here; I'm not trying to start another debate or anything. I don't have a gun, but my understanding is that you're not supposed to be drinking and carrying a gun at the same time.

This may not be the time or the place, but I'd just like to say thank you to every police officer who posted here.

We have several family members who are firefighters and paramedics on the CFD (also some retired). It is not the same level of danger, but none of us could live as safely without firefighters and, most especially, police officers.

Bless you!

THANK YOU!!! My husband is a police officer, let's just say most people do not like Policeman unless they need them!!! Also it's ALWAYS the Policemans fault!!!! But, let's not forget who also went into those buildings after 9/11 happened!!!:sad2:

Just throwing my 2 cents in.... I am not in law enforcement but I am a Nurse. I do not take a stesthescope with me but if I saw someone in a cardiac arrest I would perform cpr. I want the room next to the off duty LEO with the firearm. Criminals are criminals 24/7 they never take a vacation. They will get you when you least expect it and your gaurd is down, like when you are on vacation. I see the other side of what criminals do. Thanks to all of the wonderful LEO!!!

PDMEDIC-I took an off duty weapon the last two times (Oct 08 and Jun 07) and both times I locked it up in the room safe. A good friend of mine who is also LE says he has carried into the parks, since he conceals it on his person and didn't have an issue. Didn't read all the responses here but that is what I have done when I went. Hope this helps.
BE SAFE OUT THERE!!!

Well said! And my DH is also LEO, you can have the room next to us anytime ;) . The room safe has always been the place we store DH's firearm. I don't think he ever considered carrying into the parks as the PP mentioned. As alarmimg as that sounds, with security never checking people for weapons, an off duty LEO with his firearm on his person may come in handy at Disney one day!! (Oh what a horrible thought!!)

Time for a happier subject!!

That is a disrespectful statement. Yes, there were many different people who went in to help, but there were 600+ firefighters who ran into those buildings. Sadly, 343 of those brave men and woman lost their lives in order to save many. I mean no disrespect to the others who went in ,but no one should ever try to downplay the heroism of those men and woman. I don't say this because my husband is a firefighter, but as someone who worked in WTC.
