Mla-- for you too.

Elaine--A boy! Yeah!!!

Soccer Princess--I would make a gyno appt and talk about TTC. Your cycles are very long and that might could pose a problem conceiving, so I would ask about that.

Well, the metformin did not work for me this month. AF started yesterday. It is a little weird but I am really starting to be OK with the fact that we may only have the two boys. As much as I really, really want another baby I know that it may not happen. I'm not giving up but I am done putting my life on hold.

Another weird question, why do some docs prescribe Clomid to start on Day 3 and others to start on Day 5. What is the difference? I had bad side effects from Clomid so never even finished a cycle but I was supposed to be Day 5 - 9. A friend is starting Clomid this month and her doc prescribed it for Day 3 - 7.

Elaine - A boy! I love my boys and they are a ton of fun! I would have predicted girl for you though as well. No real reason other than just pictures and the conversations on the DIS.

Soccer Princess - Welcome!

Mla - :grouphug: I do know how you feel. We have been trying for 3.5 years with only one chemical pregnancy almost two years ago. I think it is my age (almost 38) and we may just have bad timing!

Hi ladies! Can I just jump in this thread here? DH and I just decided last week would start trying for our first baby! :) I'm kind of worried because I have really long cycles (every 2-3 months), but I'm optimistic at the same time. I think we are just going to see how things go the rest of the year and if I'm not pregnant by the end of the year (which hopefully I will be) start charting and stuff. Does that sound okay? Also, I know there are food items you should not eat while you are pregnant -- is this true for TTC as well?

Wish us luck (and good luck to all of you as well!) :)

Lots of luck to you. Even if you do not want to chart, make a written note as to the first day of every period so you will have record of it in case you need to explore your cycles further.

Welcome to the group!!! Always great to see a new face. I would imagine your longer cycles will probably make it more difficult to figure out when O-date is. As long as you are good with not charting and waiting, I'd go for it. Sometimes it can add stress. Other times it can be helpful. In my case even about 6 months before TTC I talked to my doctor at my regular check up to see what she felt. That way if I needed to lose weight, I could do it.
As for foods, the only thing I have seen several times over while TTC is to avoid artificial sweeteners of all kinds (both of you). Some will cut out drinking as well and make the switch to using things like Tylenol instead of Advil. I avoided almost all drinking as we were TTC and after my first miscarriage never used Advil. The other food issues (soft cheeses, fish, deli meats etc) I wouldn't worry about until after you get a BFP. I know I didn't worry at all.

I admit I can relate to the feeling like life is on hold with some rooms. We did nothing to the smallest bedroom thinking we'd use it as the nursery. I also did nothing to the bigger bedroom that has pale yellow walls. Everything in that area has been on hold since we moved in 6 years ago. Fortunately that never made me sad, but watching my age creep up with out having a child really hit me. 27 was a rough year for me with that

Allison, I do hope that your body levels out quickly and you can get pregnant so that your baby is due in the summer. That would be so nice to have someone at home to help out!

Momsully, sorry about AF :( I am glad you are finding peace with it no matter what though.

And thank you all, I can't believe how excited I am to have a little boy. I'm not nearly "girly" enough for a lot of the girl things out there so I am excited. We have a major name issue going on, but otherwise I am thrilled. Slightly surprised since everyone was convinced I was having a girl!

Oh Kristine, I'm so sorry :sad1:

Allison, I'm glad you have some answers now! I hope the insulin problem will be worked out soon.

Soccer Princess, I was told to give up aspartame and cut down on caffeine while TTC. A urologist friend of DH's also told him to quit smoking before trying. I don't remember the reason behind that though.

Elaine, good luck with the name issue. We're dealing with that too :headache:

I'm so sorry for everybody experiencing such a hard time right now. It's been a bad few weeks on this thread!

I went and bought some of the Dollar Tree pregnancy tests today. If I test in the next week, I know it will be too early, so I refuse to spend a lot. I doubt this is our month anyway, though. I was away for a week and we've been sick. We'll see.

Elaine and princess pooh: Want to tell us the names? I'm sure we won't make things any harder on you at all! hehe Trust me, I understand because my poor sister-in-law has her hands full between me and her mother, along with her 3 brothers. We all have opinions and they only make it harder for her and her DH.

Ok ladies. I went to the Gyno yesterday for my annual and I told her that DH and I would probably be TTC within a year, and she put me on a BCP...I was on them two months ago, and quit taking them so whenever we WERE TTC, we could start right away, and not have to wait a couple of months.

Do y'all think I should start the pill anyway? The only reason I was ever on BCP was for severe cramps, so that's why she put me on them again I guess.
If we were to have an ''accident'' in the meantime, we would just take it as a blessing, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

My gyno said that when we're ready to TTC then I should go in for bloodwork and get on prenatals. I told her I would.

I'm just not sure I want to be back on the pill. Do any of you have suggestions on what you think I should do? :confused3

Hiya

Im anna, and kinda new to all this.

My df and I are hoping to conceive in November,

I have lots of worrys though and am hoping this is the place to be
Ive come off the pill (not combined), its one that comes out of your system with a week.

I have started taking the pre pregnancy supplements etc including the folic acid.

My main worrys are my diet, I have allergys to nearly all fruit which doesnt help me ge a good vitamin intake.

Plus the fact I used to have the contraception injection for nearly three years, and have not ever had a cycle since then, so i am hoping it the cycles come back soon now Im not on anything

Also on the baby front very nervous about tests, as I have a niece with downs.

We are financially and mentally ready plus we will be married in Jan but want to conceive before

and advice and new friends welcome

Princess Pooh, I just saw your sig! I didn't realize you were having a boy too :) Good luck with the name thing!

TrueEeyore, I am a bit confused I think... were you on BCP before you went to the gyno? Or did she just give it to you for the time when you weren't TTC? There is no way I would start BCP up if I weren't already on it if TTC in teh future. In fact I would probably go off of BCP about 6 months and switch to other methods to prevent before really getting into the whole TTC issue. I hope I am makign sense, I am a bit tired today ;)
Also what blood work will she be doing when you are ready? Prenatals while TTC are optional and not required. In fact I haven't taken them at all during pregnancy (upsets my stomach, so I just add in teh folic acid and kids vitamins)

Aurora, I'd share names, but there isn't much to share. I love Dominic and he doesn't like it as much. The rest of the names we are both okay with are Antonio, Enrique and Orlando. I like Dominic more though :p

Anna, welcome to the thread! I have isseus with some veggies, so don't worry too much about it. A good vitamin will help make up for any food you might miss. Can't help on the contraception injection as I am not familiar with that here in the USA. However, I would try not to worry about Down syndrome. Talk with your doc about it, but it isn't near as family related as it is more age related. It's kind of complex with family history, but they could explain that better than me ;)

thats the thing, my brother was 25 and his wife 23 when they had jordan who has downs

Im already 25 and will be 26 before any birth

Obviously I will be tested as my sister was before her two kids, but its nerve wracking

also both my sister and sister in law lost their first babys before 6 months

Its nice to be able to chat about this though

Elaine, let's see if I can explain it better ( I knew I would get people confused! )
I went on the pill a year ago, at my last gyno appt (April 2006). I took it up until right after my wedding, which was in May of this year. I finished the last pack and haven't taken it since. I've had three cycles normally since then.
I went to the gyno Tuesday and she gave me a new BCP to take until we're ready to TTC because I get really bad cramps.

She said I should do a pre-TTC check up to make sure everything is going ok and I guess she wanted to prescribe a prenatal? She really is a great gyno, maybe she got confused about what I was saying about TTC? I really don't know, I don't want to go back on the pill, but I don't want her to think I was just trying to get a pill prescription out of her for someone else.

Anna, here's a bit more about family history
Recurrence Risk and Family History
If a patient has had a trisomy 21 pregnancy in the past, the risk of recurrence in a subsequent pregnancy increases to approximately 1 percent above the baseline risk determined by maternal age. Diagnosis of a chromosome-21 translocation in the fetus or newborn is an indication for karyotype analysis of both parents. If both parents have normal karyotypes, the recurrence risk is 2 to 3 percent. If one parent carries a balanced translocation, the recurrence risk depends on the sex of the carrier parent and the specific chromosomes that are fused.4

The significance of a family history of Down syndrome depends on the karyotype of the affected person (proband). If the proband has trisomy 21, the likelihood of a trisomy 21 pregnancy is minimally increased for family members other than the parents.
It's not straight line correlations at all. You can get tested, but just because your SIL had a baby with Down Syndrome doesn't mean you are that much more at risk.

TrueEeyore, that makes more sense now. Maybe she didn't realize that you had stopped BCP? It could have been also a a mindless thing that she would do (as in refilling a prescription) I might call back and double check her reasoning. It could have been a mistake (not one I would worry about). I just don't think I would go back on if you just went off.

She sounds like she would be on top of things with you when you are ready for TTC. My doc never prescribed a pre-natal, but she was very good about telling me which vitamins I shoud take more of :)

Thanks again Elaine. Yeah, I don't think it's good to get on the pill, get back off, get on again, and then get back off. My body would be going crazy probably!
I just don't want to go back and her be mad at me for not starting the pill :rolleyes1

I'm definitely coming back when we officially TTC so you ladies watch out! I read this thread and keep up with all of your stories. I actually hope NONE of you are here for the real reason, just as support :thumbsup2

Hey everyone. Well, I just had a bombshell hit me this afternoon. Our corporate office has decided to close our facility at the end of March 2008. I now have to find another job b/c the facility where some are moving to is too far for me to travel to. Especially with a child in a private school.

With this being the case, DH and I have had to make the sad decision to wait until next year to try for another child :sad1: . We really wanted to try next week again, but after the news I got at work, that just killed our plans. We need two incomes and getting pregnant now while finding another job is not good.

Of course, finding another job will also mean that I won't be posting on the DISboards as much :(

That really stinks. I am sorry. It might just open up a whole bunch of opportunities for you, though.

I don't know if you answered this on the GD thread, but have you been tested for PCOS? Is your insurance at your DH's job so that you could get tested while you look for another job?

Lots and lots of luck to you, and please try to stay on the DIS as much as you can. We'll miss you around here.

Denae

Thanks :)

I don't think I have been tested. I was originally supposed to get tested every year to see if I was becoming diabetic, but I never did. Guess I'm kinda scared in finding out since it's on both sides of my family's (more so on my dad's side). I have tested a few times since having DS5 on DH's meter and I'm well within the range for someone who is not diabetic. So that is good.

Thanks :)

Hello everyone. It's been a bit, been reading but not posting. It's been crazy here!

Cybrkitn-if you can afford to get tested for the diabetes do it! Or at the very least keep using the meter. This disease can be controlled with meds and sometimes just diet and exercise. But sometimes when left unchecked it can really cause major problems that could have been caught.
Sorry to hear about your job! Why does this seem to be becoming the norm anymore? Start looking for a job now and blow that joint as soon as possible. Maybe you get to TTC sooner that next year!:goodvibes Good luck with your job hunting. I hate it!

KristenN-I am so sorry to hear that you didn't have good news! I was really hoping and wishing for you. Ok, I wanted to live vicariously through you with your joy and excitement-I need a good dose of it right now. (Ok I just need a vacation). Stay optimistic and know when you do finally get to hold your little baby in your arms it will truly be a precious gift and worth every bit of pain you have now.

I have my yearly check up in the beginning of October. She'll probably order a test then (at least she has with each of my previous visits).

I'm looking at my job situation this way - this door may be closing but another one is opening for me. I love my current job and the company I work for, and I really don't want to leave it. But I have to. At least I can get some great business references from a lot of my co-workers (including our business unit's president). It's just hard to narrow it down to about 3.

DH has been wonderful helping me with updating my resume and giving me pointers and advice. He's on a hiring committee at work and his knowledge is really helping me. I'm just surprised that I'm listening as is he. I'm usually very stubborn :rolleyes1

cybrkitn - Good luck with the job search. DH just went thru that and ended up with a better job paying alot more. Today is his last day at his old company and he starts at the new one on Tuesday. He is really excited, the only bummer is he can't come on our trip in October.

Cybrktn, I'm so sorry about your job :guilty:. I hope your dream job is just around the corner!

TrueEeyore, my doctor would automatically give be a prescription for the pill at every yearly visit. I think they just do it out of habit sometimes.

Elaine, I think you're right about the name Dominic. It's a great name!

WDWAurora, the ONLY name my husband likes is Bjorn. We're not Swedish...not even close! :confused3
