I have some new.... The hemotologist I saw for the genetic disorder I have recommends I wait TTC. He thinks I am high risk for seizure or stroke with the disorder and be overweight. I need to lose about 50 lbs to be at optimal weight he says.... Then he says the condition may still cause the HELLP and pre-eclamspia again, even if I'm treated.

Not sure what to do... now DH and i have to decide what to do. I've always been afraid of something happening to me and not being around for my son or being around in some diminshed capacity... But then you hear so many stories about women who are just fine...

Prayers and PD as you make your decisions... pixiedust:

Rachael, if you lost the weight, would you be OK after that? I hope your doctor can help you so you don't have to put TTC off for too long. :grouphug:

Kristy, have you ever had CD3 blood done to check you FSH and LH? You probably did since I think it's required for IVF anyway. Did they say anything about PCOS? If they mentioned you being at a high risk of OHSS, it usually means they suspect PCOS in some form. Almost all women have a month or two a year where they're annovulatory. They can tell by the ovaries if you're going to ovulate or if you did ovulate - antral follicles, growing follicles, mature follicles, and then ruptured follicles. Once you start growing follicles, you'll see your ovaries look like a honeycomb - it's pretty cool. :) When you get your blood checked after you start the Follistim, ask for your E2 levels. The E2 levels are a pretty good indicator of your risk for OHSS. Although, mine were only 1,920 and 2,050 and I got it. :sad2: It was mild though. Drink a LOT of water and try and drink some Gatorade. I HATE Gatorade, but it really helped the OHSS and I think I would have gotten it worse if I didn't suck up so much water during the cycle. Lupron makes me really thirsty though, so that worked out pretty good.

Those cats see one of them get trapped and they freak out. They're pretty smart animals. Always get the big one first. :rotfl: The two boys have yeast infections in their ears. One of them has gingivitis and the other is "obese". The girl - perfect pearly white teeth. Clean little ears. Perfect weight. My Ally. :cloud9:

My idiot friend is driving me nuts. We've been friends since high school and she's always the "mine is better than yours" type. Could be a pen, doesn't matter, hers is better. Anyway, her DS is 4 months old. She went on and on about how her pedi said he's SO ADVANCED - like doing things he shouldn't be doing until he's a year. Today, she sends me a text message saying, "Josh loves it when I read to him. Isn't he too young for that?" Are you kidding?! I'm sure everyone thinks their kid is smart, but leave me alone! He just likes to hear you blab. If you give him a test on the materials and he can answer the questions, then I'd be impressed. Why are morons and stupid teenagers allowed to reproduce?! :confused3

I have been lurking on this thread for awhile so thought I would say hi and I have a question that I am hoping you girls know the answer to.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year with no luck, the dr however wants me lose 30 lbs before ttc of which I have already lost 10 so just 20 more to go so hopefully in a few more months we can start ttc again. Anyway last week she started me on metformin due to my glucose test and wanted me to start on BCP. I have never taken BCP before and here's what my dr. said on my answering machine today. She is going to prescribe Yasmin but I need to wait until I get my next period and then I am to start them the Sunday after I get my period. She also said that when I get my period to come in and have a pregnancy test. I am confused if I get my period doesn't that indicate that I am not pregnant so why the need for the test? My last period ended just last week so now I have to wait until next month to start the BCP. Does this make sense?

Are you sure she didn't say if you *don't* get your period to come in for a test?

Although I guess she could be the cautious kind who tests everyone before they start the pill, period or not.

Carla: omg to your friend...has she absolutely no sense of the world around her??

LOL!

She sounds like a piece of work.

And no--he isn't too young and it doesn't mean he's smart---you should tell her that he just likes listening to her and she should be thankful that somebody does. :rolleyes1

Welcome to the group. :) For me, once I started seeing my dr, I felt all the pressure off of me. Let them worry about it. ;)

Most times, when a doctor/clinic does a "cycle" it goes pregnancy test to pregnancy test - you start with a test and end with a test. Sometimes it's for insurance purposes, sometimes it's for malpractice purposes, sometimes it's just to keep things in order. During my 2nd IVF cycle, I got what I thought was my period, but I was pregnant. It was ectopic, so I'm happy she tested me because she suspected it was all wrong from the first blood test. How are you doing on the metformin? I've heard metformin can really help with weight loss, so you should be on your way pretty soon. :goodvibes

Hi DisneyMagic! Welcome to the group

I know in the office I work for, when we start someone on OCPs, they get a pregnancy test before they begin. More in case they are miscarrying, since that would not be the time to start OCPs. The Yasmin is really good, and it has a slight diuretic in it, so it helps with a little bit of extra weight loss. How are you doing with the metformin? My OB/GYN started me on it a few months ago, and it's definitely getting better with time. The side effects do wear off, and it does seem to help with losing some weight. Now if it will only help me get pregnant....

Good luck!
Jen

Thanks for the replies that makes sense. The metformin hasn't been too bad I have just been taking it for 5 days now. Did you notice things not tasting the same? I have been eating a light breakfast and lunch but for dinner the last few nights I haven't had much of an appetite and have also been dealing with the loose bowel movements. How long did it take for the side effects to wear off?

Yup, she checked my FSH and LH and said they were both fine. The only signs of PCOS that I have are the excess hair growth and an insulin resistance. The HSG came out normal and the FSH/LH levels came out normal. I'm drinking as much water as I can. I've had NO caffeine in two days and am in severe withdrawals! Thankfully I like Gatorade so it will be easy to drink that.

You know...your friend should know to keep her mouth shut :furious: People like that infuriate me!!

The weird taste and nausea went away within a month. Good luck with the diarrhea though. Eat lots of fiber (shredded wheat seems to be helping :) ). If it's really bad, ask for the extended release that you take at bedtime. Then the worst of it is while you're asleep

I've been breaking out along my jawline - no hair, just wierd pimple-like breakouts. I didn't even think that could be related to the meds, huh?

Wow, as I was clicking submit on the last post, my OB/GYN called. I'm scheduled for the ultrasound to determine follicle size on Wednesday next week. If everything is good, I get the HCG shot that day, and then go back on Friday for the IUI. Hopefully it all works out as easily as it sounds.

Dumb question - will I be able to go back to work after the IUI, or do I need to take the day off? If I can get into work, I really need to.... But, if I'm going to be curled up in the fetal position, then it probably isn't worth it. :)

Welcome to the group!! I'm also on metformin and rarely have an appetite in the evenings. What dosage are you on? That will determine how long it takes your body to adjust. If you notice that you're having severe gastro-intestinal issues you should take the metformin while your eating. The food will help you disgest the pill.

I started to notice the hair growth about 7 years ago when I was gaining weight. I think they have a correlation to each other. Doctors haven't yet determined whether the PCOS is the cause of the hair growth or a result from obesity. My guess is it's a result of the obesity and that's my own darn fault. Yes..your meds may be causing the hormones in your body to act up and that's causing the breakouts.

Personally, I've had a lot of cramping both times. The nurse said I could take tylenol, but I chose to camp out on the sofa instead. Could I have gone to work, probably (shhh!) The appointment usually takes a total of 1.5 hours (including providing a specimen there) - good thing is, for an hour of it it's just waiting for the biologist to do her thing - we go out for breakfast while we're waiting.

Carla and Kim,

I'm so sorry. Don't give up.

Beck, I took a pregnancy test a day for two weeks until OBGYN confirmed I was pregnant. Then I took one a week until I heard the heartbeat. It was an expensive paranois, but I know what you mean.

Flyingbelle, fingers crossed for you.

Anyway, I will still be here cheering you on. I promise to stick around until each of you is pregnant and who knows, maybe me too...

You are all my girls!

Rachael,

I must have missed something before...what condition do you have that would cause HELLP and pre-eclampsia??

:woohoo: YAY for doctors that actually call back ;) ;) I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!

I promise...that's all the quoting I'm going to do today. :teeth: Now...would someone else like to take my shot for me? :lmao:

Well I am going in for my u/s tommorrow. My meds are ordered 3 450 mg of glonal f and hcg. I will see tommorrow what does will be. I hate getting the baseline u/s especially when i am bleeding heavely. My iui are no problems just minor cramps, The hardest thing is finding the cervix on the first one It is really high up

Just wanted to check in and send some  everyone's way!!

Gagged and gagged at work today (I was working at a different branch of the bank). All the ladies could hear me, which was sort of embarrassing, but whattya gonna do? They were so nice, though.

Tonight I'm feeling alright, just really tired. Gotta run to Wal-Mart to find a bra to sleep in- they hurt less if they're anchored down.. :rotfl: All I own are Lane Bryant "push em up, push em up, push em waaaaaaaaaay up" bras with underwire- not so comfy for sleeping. Or really, doing anything, for that matter. :teeth:
