Nicole- yes, it is the NT scan or the first trimester screening as they call it. I think they can check for down's and trisonomy (sp?) 18 or whatever. just birth defects. i will definitely make sure DH comes then if the u/s is going to be clear and cool to watch. I wasn't sure if he should come or not (he hates missing work). my cousin (like a second mom) wants to come to one of my u/s at some point too- she never had children and didn't have all the fertility medication options that we have these days....so she wants to just experience it. i am surprised my doc hasn't issued more u/s for me since I did IVF etc. Even my specialist released me to the OB so quickly. it seems most of my online IVF friends didn't get released to their regular OBs until 10 weeks. i was released at like 5 or 6! but i guess that means they think everything looks great and that i don't require more monitoring? who knows.

nicole- so glad everything looks good and you saw your little bean in there.

Elaine- good luck on the u/s! thinking of you!

Skuttle- so sorry about more bloodwork, but it sounds like you have a good attitude. don't give up. and more mickey bars at WDW sounds fantastic! when is your next trip planned?

Denise, sorry you have gotten the m/s too- it really blows. i just bought more lemonade, i agree citrus stuff helps some. i am also addicted to granny smith apples and peanut butter right now.

snoopy- so sorry about the long and confusing cycle and it is more frustrating when the doc just says AF will come eventually. i hope she comes soon and don't give up- be your own advocate, if you really think something is wrong- demand testing- be agressive with your doc. especially if you have been trying a while or are older. i am only 33, but i knew based on my cycles, we would have problems probably and i attacked it head on and managed to talk the docs into testing me etc.

PrinSuzanne- enjoy disney on ice- we saw it with my neice here in dallas a few weeks ago, it was very cute.

Nicole- btw- i forgot to respond to your pm- thanks for the offer, but my mom couldn't wait to buy me that book right away, so i have that one, along with 2 more. lol.

well back downstairs to rest and get some water, i am so so thirsty all the time.

I thought about trying Robitussin. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I figure it may not hurt. Although, I can't stand the stuff and never ever take meds when I'm sick because I struggle with taking it without gagging. So we'll see. Still thinking about that one!

I'm just so ready for this to happen.

I hate taking meds in a liquid, so you can try Mucinex, it works the same way and it is a tablet. Sometimes Robitussin has other meds in it besides the quifenisen in it, the regular Mucinex doesn't. I does work at least for cervical mucus. I have to take it for congestin sometimes and it can thin out cervical mucus as well.

I think Monsters Inc was the last Disney on Ice that was here last year, the one this years is called Disneyland Adventures and features many different characters and even the rides from the park.

Hope this evening finds everyone else well.

Maybe I missed it earlier in the thread but what does the Robitussin do?

I found out last night that my prenatal vitamins don't have enough folic acid. DH says the latest research shows to take 5 mg and I've only been taking 1mg. I guess I better go buy some supplements.

I don't know about the Robitussin, but when I went for my annual and asked about what I needed to be doing now (not actively trying for a little longer) she said all I needed to take was Folic. She didn't advise anything else, and I asked several different ways, in case she assumed I was on a multi-vitamin already. I'm taking 800, which is 2 pills. I'm not sure what the amount is measured in offhand, but I'd say the measurements are different there anyway.

Congrats on the house! I bet you're excited.

It thins the cervical mucous (supposedly) making conception more likely (again supposedly). I have heard of several friends swearing by it.

As for Folic Acid, I ahve no idea where your DH saw that but per the SPAA it is 400mcg of Folic Acid, not nearly 13x as much. It shouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't go change it just for that. My doc only requires 400mcg while pregnant as well, so not sure why you would need that much more.

I am sorry Skuttle. This is what happened to me last May. Stupid early tests. I did back of and took one test in June and then the BFP in July. HUGS ...

Oh, I would love to have a similar schedule to you!! :)

Guess I'll be buying some Robitussin tomorrow when I go to the store. I read this morning to try to get the plain robitussin without all the extra stuff. Guess I"ll have to study the meds tomorrow! I definitly may consider the Mucinex in the pill form!

Michelle...we're hoping to go back to WDW next summer. DH may try to take his band for spring break (he's a high school music teacher) and if he does that, we'll probably push back the family trip until the fall. We're trying to get a fence this summer, so no trip...fences are pricey!

Sorry for all you girls suffering from morning sickness. I was lucky with DS and never had any. Boy, what I wouldn't give to be throwing up right now.

Need to run...DS is requesting a sponge bob tatoo. :)

It is not uncommon to take 5mg as compared to the recommended 800mcg (that it what I have always heard and the doc told me to take when TTcing). I haven't found a prenatal with less than that. You can't take too much Folic Acid and it is really good for Cardiac Health. I worked for a Rheumatologist and she would commonly prescribe 5mg of Folic Acid to pt's that were taking Methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis. She is from Canada and said that is the only place you can get 5mg of Folic Acid by prescription. She was shocked to find it wasn't available in the states.

Well AF came last night so no Christmas baby for me and a cycle of 40 days so I really hope they don't continue like that!! I'm not as upset as usual which is a good sign and a relief for DH as he hates seeing me in tears all the time!!

I think this month I'll try and persuade DH to BD every other day - just to make sure!! I know I'm lucky as I'm only 27 but I always wanted children young - about 25. DH is coming up for 35 next week so I know he wants to have them now as he's not getting any younger. We're off to Iceland for a week for his birthday so maybe that'll be the ideal opportunity for it to happen and I'll be more relaxed and happy!! Must think positive thoughts!! :wizard:

pixiedust: for all those who are hoping this is the month.

:cheer2: for those who have sticky babies.

My name's Vick btw!!

Vick...at least AF arrived and you can start trying again. It hurts my DH as well to see me so unhappy. It's so hard to explain it to them, the disappointment each month. Enjoy your trip! I, too, have been trying to relax and take more of a "it'll happen when it happens" approach. The stress can't be good so I'm trying to let some of the tension go.

Well, I called yesterday to cancel the prenatal appt I had made back when I first got the BFP. I called back today to make an appt for my annual. THe earliest available was AUGUST!! I could see a NP, but I rather see my actual doctor to discuss TTC. By August, it will be a little over a year that I've been off BCP. And, I really feel like I can only say we've *really* been trying for about 5-6 months (and some of those months were not good months) so I figure waiting until August will be a good thing. Gives me a few more months to really try, a few more months for me to keep up with charting (I've only full completed one chart since going off BCP!) that way we can see where things stands. Of course, I'm hoping I'll be calling her next month to get in for a prenatal. :goodvibes

Vick, I am sorry that AF showed. I hope you have much better luck this month!!!!!

You know it really does get very hard to explain to your DH why you aren't happy. Luis always thought it was him.. when it was actually me who felt like the failure. I had to tell him 50x over again that he was one of hte only things that actually made me happy. He eventually understood, but it was a long time getting there.

Allison, my doc used to be that bad about appts. Now they are done just about 3 months in advance I think. I have on schduled for July as well, though we'll see if I need that or not. While I love our NP, I don't blame you for wanting to see the doctor.

The appt for me went well. I admit I was scared to death... I iddn't mean to be but I sure was. The end result, we have our little bitty blob with a tiny beating little heart. Everything looks 100% normal and no sign of internal issues causing the bleeding from last weekend. Both the tech and the NP both believe it was the coughing and straining combined (or just one or the other). It's a relief to me and I will just ohpe that the next appt in 2 weeks goes as well. The DD matches dead on with when my last period was (I *finally* figured it out) So fingers crossed for good things

That's great news Elaine - it must have been a relief for you!! I've been following your posts and I'm really happy for you.

Skuttle, I really hope you'll be able to change your appointment to a pre-natal one very soon - it's got to be our time very soon!!

DH hates it that I get so upset and I end up blaming myself and he can't understand why. He says it may be something wrong with him and that's why we haven't been successful yet but I always convince myself that it's me that's the problem!! But I'm trying to learn to go easy on myself and let it happen in good time but I had really hoped I'd have a baby in 2007. Well I'd better not dwell on that too much as I'll only upset myself again!!

Vick :cheer2:

Elaine

Yeah!! What great news -- I am so happy for you. You must feel relieved that the first hurdle has been crossed. I am sending you lots of sticky baby pixie dust. So - when is the estimated due date? I am assuming sometime in December!! Do you need a free copy of "What to Expect When you are Expecting" -- I have an extra that I received as a gift.

Hi and hugs to all the other TTC girls!

Have a great day ladies - it is Friday!!

Nicole

Elaine--I am so happy for you! :cheer2: :cheer2: That has got to be some type of relief to know that little heart is beating! Considering you're probably as far along as I am...7 weeks...it's good to know they can hear the heartbeat. Or do they just "see" it at this point? So when are you due? :goodvibes

Well that's kinda poopy. :( I hate to see you having such a hard time TTC while here it just took one cycle for me. I know every woman is different, but it doesn't always seem fair. So as you've already said, don't obsess about it, keep those good thoughts in your head, and perhaps you would like the PRAYER TO BE BLESSED WITH A CHILD that I sent to a few ladies. I prayed it often and BINGO! :goodvibes I know G-d was the one who did it in the end, but prayer NEVER hurts. ;) Best wishes to you Allison always! :flower3:

Sending hugs to everyone on this journey!

I haven't officially started yet, so I'm still hoping that it was just implantation bleeding instead of AF, but that's a very small hope as I've been known to spot for up to a week before actually starting. :(

I read on another board that grapefruit juice does what y'all are saying Robitusson does. Has anyone else heard that or was I just drinking it in vain last month. lol

Okay, went googling and found some info. Thought I'd post the article for anyone else wondering about all this too. This is copied and pasted from thelaboroflove.com So, I guess I'll drink grapefruit juice And take robitussin. :thumbsup2

There are many different factors that you need to consider when trying to get pregnant. Certain aspects of the conception process need to be nurtured and performed at times which will aid in helping you to conceive. Two aspects are the quantity and quality of your cervical mucus. The cervical mucus is the fluid which is necessary for conception. There are a few different ways you can help to improve both the quantity and quality of your cervical mucus.

Improving the Quantity

Cervical mucus has a very important role in the conception phase. It is vital that you improve the quantity of your cervical mucus as it aids the sperm in its journey to locate the egg. Therefore, the mucus must be prevalent enough to keep the sperm flowing in the direction of the egg.

One way to improve your cervical mucus quantity is to cut back on certain substances. Items such as caffeine and tobacco will hinder the production of cervical mucus and make it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg. Eliminating or decreasing the intake of these items will help the process greatly.

Another way to improve your cervical mucus quantity is to drink enough fluids each day. Water is the best type of fluid to drink and you should drink approximately 10-6 oz. glasses of water per day. Besides drinking water each day, you should also drink grapefruit juice. The components of the grapefruit juice will aid in helping to produce extra cervical mucus which will in turn help you in your conception endeavors.

There are also certain substances which have been recommended in the past to aid in improving cervical mucus quantities. Some have suggested that 1,000 IU of Evening Primrose Oil be taken by the woman each day during the time period from the first day of her cycle through ovulation. Others have stated that 1,000 mg of red raspberry be taken anytime during the cycle.

These are just some ways in which you can help improve the quantity of your cervical mucus and help make conception that much more likely.

Quality of Cervical Mucus

You should also try to improve the quality of the cervical mucus. Frequently a woman will have a good quantity of cervical mucus but the quality will be lacking in some way. Women may find that their cervical mucus is too thick or hostile for conception. When this is the case, a doctor may recommend Robitussin or Guaifenesin to thin out the cervical mucus thereby improving the quality. If you have an issue with the quality of your cervical mucus you can gain peace of mind in knowing that there are ways to improve the quality and increase your chances of conception.

Conclusion

The cervical mucus plays a big role in the conception phase and it is important that you are aware of the ways in which to go about improving both the quantity and quality of your cervical mucus.

Thanks for the information October Beauty. I guess that means I should cut back on the caffeine a bit. I won't be pleasant to be around once the Diet Coke withdrawal kicks in!

I finally got my period today. I'm relieved that my first cycle off the pill has been more or less normal. I was worried it would take months to get back on track :headache:

You and me both. lol I don't want to give up my diet cokes yet either, but I'm trying....not as much as I should be, but I'm trying. ;)

Well, I stopped at the store and bought a box of Mucinex. It's more expensive than the plain robitussin, but there's no way I could drink robitussin three times a day! We'll see if it helps. :)

Sheri, thanks for the info! My DH was reading over my shoulder and asked, "Are you really reading about cervical mucus." I think I grossed him out! LOL!

Elaine: WONDERFUL news! I'm so happy for you!! Hope things continue to go well.

Vick, I can understand... of course if you are worried, I am a huge fan of going to the doc and being checked out. If nothing is wrong then you can be rest assured that you will have a baby sometime soon. That way no blame ;) Of course that never stopped me from feeling like a failure :rolleyes1

Nicole, thanks for that offer on the book. I admit it scared me from what little I read. I think I'll hold off on that one for now.

Denise, it is a bit of a relief to see the heartbeat. You can't hear it at that early and usually don't until about 10 weeks (give or take). But you can see it and it is a neat thing to see. I just am going to hang on until the next ultrasound. Our last pregnancy we saw the baby at about the same gestation and saw the heartbeat, so I now anything can happen.

Sheri, that is such cool stuff! I was looking for that kind of thing for y'all last night and wound up w/o time to find it all.

Oh and a bit of an FYI, for those drinking diet... my doc tries to get you to limit the "fake sugars" while pregnant. So it might be wise to cut out on all that for that reason too. I know it is sooo hard to cut out soft drinks. It really took me a long time to do it (and I did it a long time before I was TTC)

Allison, I hope the Mucinex works for you! I love using that stuff when congested. Oh and thank you... I hope to have more wonderful news in 2 weeks :)
