What if my 6-year-old is bored to death on the 5 hour flight down?
He/She will likely get bored-there's no way around that. But you'll be prepared with activities!! A packback full of them --Disney books on tape with headphones & cassette player, coloring & activity book, cards to play Go Fish, books, travel size Magna Doodle.....
If you can afford to spend another $150 then go buy a portable DVD player and bring some Disney DVDs to watch...a new one that the child hasn't seen yet was be awesome. Hopefully, your flight is in the morning when a 6 year old is at their best rather than in the evening. Prior to my toddler traveling when always prepped him by asking him "What do you do on the airplane?" and the prepared answer we trained him to say was "Be Quiet and don't kick the seat in front of you".
What if we lose our luggage?
That is highly unlikely. I travel A LOT and it has NEVER happend to me. Have any MUST-HAVE medicines & some spare undies in your carry-on bag just in case and then don't worry about it. If the worse happens, you'll deal with it and have a story to tell your friends back home. Try to look at all travel traumas as adventures!
What if the hotel we booked is awful?
If you get to your room & it is horrible immediately call the front desk & ask to be moved to a different room. If that doesn't work out then pull out your laptop or the phone book and start calling around to make new arrangements to stay elsewhere. There is a HUGE number of hotels in the Disney area and you will find something that is acceptable to you. And remember...it is an adventure!
What if I get sea sick? (or any member of the family)
There is free Bonine at the Medical Center on Deck 1 that you can pick up at anytime if needed. If none of you usually get motion sick in a car then you likely won't on the ship either.
Our 5 year old son got an ear infection on our last trip to WDW and we had to go to the Emergency Room and reschedule our flight for 2 days later. Nope, it wasn't fun but we got through it but we made the best of it. The departure of that trip wasn't much smoother...The morning that we were leaving I had my 11 year old daughter pee in a cup & Grandpa dropped it off at the medical clinic lab just after dropping us off at the airport. Our DR called in the needed prescription to Walgreens in Kissimmee (we learned there are several of them on the main street!). We had to alter our park plans due to both kids being somewhat sick. We rented a boat at Boardwalk and still had some fun though. We pulled out the laptop and did a priceline bid to find an inexpensive place to stay for the extra nights.
What if our towncar does'nt show up and we miss the cruise?
Even if it doesn't show up -you won't miss the cruise! You will have the phone number pre-programed in your cell phone or written down somewhere so you can easily call the towncar company to see where they are or a replacement company if needed. You just deal with it and don't stress out about it. Act silly to your six year old and joke about it being lost.
What if we lose our passport?
You WON'T. It just will NOT happen. It will be in a special secure place and right where you need it when you need it. You'll have all your documents completed in advance and will be ready to go.
What if I lose my child (or hubby)..or I get lost?
Make a mental note of what color shirt you dress your child (& hubby!) each morning to make it easier to look for them later. Instruct your child that if he can't see Mom or Dad to STOP & stay where he is & you'll find him. Also to only talk to cast-members that work there if help is needed. Being that you are a worrier-you will keep a close eye and no one will be lost for long! I often wander off from my husband and we have found that two-way family radios are awesome/easy way to find each other again. As soon as I come out of the bathroom I'll call on the radio & ask where he is. Our 11 year old has a radio with her when she's out playing in the neighborhood at home in the summer so that I can reach her to check on her too.
What if we get sunburned the first day and have to spend the rest of the time indoors?
We like the sunscreen that you spray on the best. Put it on first thing in the morning while you are getting dressed and bring it along too. Getting sunburned is no fun- you feel sick & awful. Prevention is the key.
R E L A X ......E N J O Y.....you will have a great time!!! My husband and I have learned that if we let a travel "adventures" stress us out that it upsets the children and if we calm down and take problems in stride than our kids do too. Hope this was helpful to you! We are busy packing this weekend. We are doing our first
Disney cruise May 8-12.
