Any one jumping onboard with Verizon next month with the iphone?

There's been a lot of hype lately so I was curious as to what people are thinking.

I don't have an iPhone mainly because I heard so many people complain about AT&T's service in the past so I'm considering it now with Verizon. Are many people going to jump off of AT&T when Verizon offers it next month?

I have Verizon. Every night before I went to bed, I said my prayers that Verizon would soon offer the IPhone sometime in the future.

Of course, I just upgraded my phone 2 months ago. *facepalm* But I made a deal with DP (who could care less if she has an IPhone) that if they came out with IPhone that she would upgrade and we would switch phones. So yay! In April I shall have my heart's desire.:banana:

I don't think so. I am having a hard time paying $199 each for a phone. Call me cheap, but I got 2 blackberries for $50 last time.

I too have been waiting for the iphone to come to Verizon, but no I will not be switching. $199 is pretty steep w/ no other discounts. I feel like Verizon is out to get every last cent from the consumer (I've been a Verizon customer since 2001) and I constantly have poor customer service there. Until recently though, they were the only ones that offered good cell coverage in my area. Every time my contract runs out, I want to switch but can't. This time, I am. I'm going to AT&T. You can buy a refurbed 8gb iphone for $8. Yes, you read that right, $8. It would be the 3g model, which is what you're getting at Verizon for $199. I can't justify that price difference. You can even buy a new iphone from AT&T for $49 (lowest GB option). The other thing I like about going w/ AT&T is that they've had the iphone out for awhile now and have hopefully ironed out all the kinks.

Sorry about your experience with verizon...I think all of the companies are out to bleed us dry. I found out that the hard way by buying my Blackberry accessories through BestBuy. I paid $50 for an OtterBox case and and $30 for a charger. My DW who has the same phone bought the same case through accessorystuff.com for $20 less and the same charger through amazon.com for $13.

I know people who have bought refurbished items before and have been very happy with them. My biggest concern is what I have heard about the AT&T coverage...not just from friends but also articles about how unhappy people are with it.

I would absolutely LOVE to have an iPhone. But have not been willing to give AT&T any of my business at all. Doesn't look as though Sprint will ever get the iPhone, so I may switch to Verizon. So far, I have not heard anything about what the monthly service plan will cost. That concerns me much more than the initial cost of the phone itself.

With Sprint, we have 4 phones with unlimited data and texting for less than $200 per month. Unfortunately, I am afraid that may be the monthly fee for only 2 phones with Verizon. :confused3

I know everyone supposedly hates AT&T, but I've been happy with our service, so we won't be switching.

I'm seriously considering it, but the cost of the phone is scary, as is the not knowing what the unlimited data plan charges might be. I am eligible to upgrade now, the rest of the family has to wait until July. I think I'm leaning towards waiting to see if they lower the cost of the phone or offer a better upgrade deal. We have 4 phones now and while we won't all get iPhones when we upgrade 2 of us are likely to and we would love to get a good deal. :)

I'm one of those people who want the iPhone soooo badly (I grew up in an Apple-obsessed house) but refuse to use AT&T.

But I haven't decided yet... I'm waiting until they release the price of the data plan.

I'm a Verizon customer and have been very happy with their service. I seem to break phones a LOT and they've always made it easy to replace it with a new one. I've been eligible for an upgrade since October so that won't be a problem. I'd probably end up paying $100 -- $150 for a phone anyway so the price of the phone is only somewhat dissuading.

So like I said, mostly it'll be the price of the data plan. If it ends up being $30 a month like the other smartphones, I'll probably go with the iPhone. If its higher... maybe not.

My DH and I have Verizon and will probably get the Iphone at some point, but I am in no hurry especially given the price of the phone. I will probably give them awhile to work the kinks out of the new Iphone.

Why do they do that? My DH is eligible to upgrade now, but I have to wait until April. :confused3 When we got our phones last time, they had a deal with a BOGO. We are going to wait until we both can upgrade or see if they will budge and let us both do it now.

We are already Verizon, charter members of the old fashoined flip/clam shell phones that can make a call and not much else. DS has been saving and saving...is interested in the IPhone, but ultimately has decided to wait for the 4G phones before he drops all his hard earned $. He has $200 for a phone and received a generous gift card to go toward either a phone or data plan so he should be coveerd for about 18 months. However, he is sitting tight, embracing his status as the only kid at school without a smartphone.

My husband wants it but not being able to use the internet/check email while making a call is kinda sucky. His verizon contract is up in Feb but he'll be changing to AT&T's iPhone.

He'd like to be able to play around while on hold or check an email while on the phone like I can with my iPhone and verizon's won't allow that :(

Well, I'm bummed that they are doing away with the limited data plan. My contract expires in February and I was planning on getting the limited data plan, since I hardly would use it.

I am getting it as soon as it comes out. I have a $50 upgrade credit, so my cost should be $149.
I don't care if it's 4G or not as I don't need to look at the web while on the phone.

I'll be getting the 16gb one - preordered on the 3rd (hopefully). I have a $100 credit that expires in July, so mine will cost me $99.99. I've been waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon for the last 2 years.

This is me, I'm waffling because of the data plan. I'm actually OK with the price of the iPhone itself, I was putting it this way in my head...if I bought an iTouch (which was my other thought) it would be 8 gigs, $250 or so, I will need wifi to go online and it doesn't make calls. If I get the iPhone it's $199.99, I don't need wifi to go online, it's 16 gigs and it is a phone so I can make calls. I don't know that it matters to me that I can go online while holding so I'm ready now. :) But I'm not ready to make the decision until I know for sure that my prices are correct. :)

I don't really know, it's weird. I originally only had 1 phone on the plan, just mine, then after DBF and I got serious (going on 9 years this year) he dropped his line on his parents AT&T account and we moved him to my account. In 09 we added the girls phones, so we have 4 phones on the account. My acct actually says I'm eligible for an "early" upgrade and may have to pay an additional $20 to upgrade, the other 3 phones say eligible in July. I think that I probably got my phone in July and then with each added phone it defaults the upgrade date to July. I don't know if that's right tho. :)

It has been announced that the data rate will be $30/month. Unfortunately, Verizon is doing away with it's $15/month plan for ALL phones. You can read more here:

Thank You for this! :) $30 is the most I wanted to pay for data, I was hoping I'd be able to get the cheaper plan tho, we have wifi at home so I could connect for free at home. :)

:thumbsup2 That's a GREAT Deal!!!!! Congrats! :)

My current LG touch has a $10 date plan (which it didn't when I bought it), so it will only :rotfl: be $20 (I say this in jest) more than what I am currently paying, but for so much more fun.

Regarding the price of the phone - it's not Verizon, it's Apple, Apple doesn't discount their products and I agree with several previous posters, I'm not going to surf and talk - I can barely walk and talk :rotfl: if you ask my husband and it's cheaper than an ipod touch which I don't have because I have been holding out on this phone forever!

I'm not eligible until February 28, so I'll see what happens in those first couple of weeks, but I'm on sure February 28 I'll be at our Apple store purchasing my phone!
