Any one jumping onboard with Verizon next month with the iphone?

I have finally come around to even wanting a smartphone in the last few months. I am embarrassed to admit it anywhere but the DIS, but WDW planning and travel are part of the reason I'd like the apps, the 'Net, etc. on my phone.:rolleyes1 Don't tell DH.

So I had just started researching when they announced the Verizon deal. We are sticking with Verizon for the service, so it made the Iphone possible for the first time. A year ago I wasn't so pro-Apple and pro-touchscreen (I hate, hate, hate my current phone's touchscreen:mad:), but since then we have gotten a iMac and I have been using DH's older Itouch. I will still miss a real keyboard but I think that is my only hangup.

I'm going to give it a couple months for the hubbub to die down but will probably buy an Iphone later this spring.

There's been a lot of hype lately so I was curious as to what people are thinking.

I don't have an iPhone mainly because I heard so many people complain about AT&T's service in the past so I'm considering it now with Verizon. Are many people going to jump off of AT&T when Verizon offers it next month?

I've been with AT&T (formerly Cingular) since 1995 and I've never had any problems. :confused3
I love my iPhone.

We switched last year from Verizon to AT&T and we are much happier. Not that Verizon is bad, mind you, but we're the type that doesn't need smartphones and we hardly used what we were paying for every month. So we tried talking to them and negotiate a lower bill (we were paying around $120/month) but the best they would do was $75/month. In contrast, we now pay $30/month with Go phones from AT&T, and my reception is better with AT&T especially in town and I've never had a call drop. I would love an IPhone, but I have an ITouch that I can text and talk (Skype).

I've been waiting for a Verizon iPhone for a VERY long time, but now that it's here, I'm still hesitant... My sister, who is a diehard iPhone user, has cautioned me from getting the "first wave" of a new apple product, because there will probably be some kinks that need to be ironed out that will be addressed in the future.

I *think* I'm going to wait until the 4G comes out in July or so, but I'm not sure if I can wait that long.

Just to clarify: it is the iPhone 4 that will be released in February on Verizon. It will not run on Verison's 4G network. The next generation of iPhone (which many are calling the iPhone 5) is probably going to be available in the Summer, 2011, probably on both At&T and Verizon. It is not expected that the iPhone 5 will run on the Verizon 4G network, but certainly might. -- Suzanne

You can text on an iTouch? Please tell me how this works.

I use an app called Textfree Unlimited, but there are a few others that are free as well as a paid apps for texting.

I've had this problem with ipods. I got the 1st gen shuffle when it first came out as well as the 1st gen nano, both died within a couple of years. I had already upgraded to a classic, 5th gen I think. My sister had been using both. They had issues with freezing. Then completely died. I've had my classic for 3 years and haven't had any problems.

I would never choose Verizon's network over AT&T. I have better coverage with AT&T. Besides better coverage, AT&T's network speeds are almost double Verizon's here in NYC. Also, if I have a full feature phone, I want to be able to use it. Not being able to check email and browse while on a call doesn't appeal to me. Since Verizon was lacking speed to begin with I'm curious to see how they're going to hold up now with all these iPhones eating up their network.

I think I read that all the iphones will be on Verizons 3g network while all the other smart phones will be put on their new 4g.

This is not true. All smartphones will be on 3G until 4G smartphones are launched later this spring.

Oh! This might be the answer to my prayers. So, you can only text with a wireless network or wifi hotspot?

Yes and that is the downside, but since I have wireless at home and have hotspots around town it does save a huge amount of money that I'd be spending otherwise.

I recently switched from many years at Sprint to get an iphone at at&t. It has been a few months now and I have had no service issues at all. No dropped calls and always have a good signal. Customer service is even really great! I like AT&T!:thumbsup2

Happy with my Verizon Droid phone for over a year now. Service is great, plus it bothers me that you can not change the battery (yourself) on an iphone.

It's exactly the opposite here, AT&T coverage is horrible, VW is very good. My BFF has AT&T, she's always losing calls, I rarely lose them. It's interesting how coverage is so different from place to place. As for checking email/browsing while on the phone I can't do that now so it isn't a priority for me. :)

I still have my razor phone from 3 yrs ago, still don't know how to use all the features lol. I would love an iphone, but I have a beautiful pink digital camcorder, and a pretty pink Kodak camera, a pink acer netbook, and a new Kindle that will have a pink jacket. I plan to keep my low cost verizon plan and my razor phone, take pics with my camera, do videos with my camcorder, wifi with the netbook, and read books on my kindle. I also have a Nintendo DS lite (pink) and games and a portable DVD player. If my phone dies I will get another one and keep my plan, I don't do texting so I don't miss it. Having said all this, if I could afford the iphone and the data plan I would opt for it. I hate this recession!!

I'm a current ATT customer with an iphone3G - my 2 year contract expired this week:banana: Coverage is terrible in Chicago and I'm always getting dropped calls! Love the iphone, hate the failed calls.

I'm switching to Verizon and getting the DroidX. The DroidX can be found online for only $29 with a two-year contract. I've been doing a ton of research, and the DroidX is the closest thing to the iphone. Think about it - DroidX for $29 or the iphone4 for $199. It's a no brainer for me! If for some reason I don't like the DroidX, I have 14 days to switch to another phone (it used to be 30 days but is now 14 days). I can't wait to try out the DroidX then my iphone is going up on Ebay!
