I think it was WDWfreak200 posted that they did previewed it last night and they loved it.

We are returning to Universal Studios in January. Our last visit there was over 15 years ago. Please fill us in...what is Disaster?

Disaster! previews took place on Wednesday night. My friends went and gave me positive reviews. Universal has released that Disaster! will open in January.

Disaster opened for Technical Previews today, and I went to it. All in all a big thumbs up. The ride portion hasn't changed much, but the pre-show is actually pretty fun (and amazing in places, especially the second room and the "pepper's ghost" like effect).

It may or may not be open for more previews during the week, it's still set for a grand opening next week.

Overall it surprised me in a good way. Nearly everyone was laughing on the ride back to the subway station from the monitors that are now in the trains.

Were you told by a team member that it's set for a grand opening next week? I saw the Press Release Trailer on http://media.universalorlando.com and it said sometime in January 2008. Also, I don't think a definite opening date has yet to be determined.

Good point, no they didn't mention a particular grand opening date, but I was assuming (wrong thing to do) next week because that is January. So it could be later for "full" grand opening. The Technical preview was only letting one group in at a time in case anything broke down, no express for previews either. And possibly not everything was working as intended.

Oh ok. I hope they don't try what Disney is doing and only do random soft openings. I hope to catch Disaster! on Thursday.

There was recently something in the Orlando Sentinel -not that it's a great paper (it's not!) but it stated that Universal hoped to have previews of the ride all this week.

And for the PP who asked what Disaster! is, it is taking the place of Earthquake, the ride.

Like Disney1976 said, it is replacing Earthquake.

Wow, first trip in 15 years. You will likely be amazed at how much has changed.

Just returned from US/IOA and Yes they had the castmember preview on the 12/19. I ran into a few of the cast members on 12/20 that I'd been talking to the previous day and they all gave positive reviews. The cast memebers told me that they would be doing soft openings on 12/24 the day we left and that the ride would offically open on 1/4/08. Take that as a rumor as I was told this by cast members but I'd say it's a pretty solid rumor.
