Any News of Delta??

Personally I really dont know if Delta will survive or not. They are in tough shape and in a tough position. I feel though if the court orders another pay cut the pilots will strike. But also should another pay cut not be allowed Delta will also be hurting for cash for a good while and who knows how long they be able to sustain themself. I hope they survive but in this day and age I wouldn't be suprised if they dont sadly. Not saying they wont survive but I wouldnt be terribly suprised.

Also to say there is no way Delta would done by next weekend is entirely false. It can happen, trust me. Braniff Airlines which some of you may have heard decalred CH 11 like Delta. Eventually they just were in such bad shape they declared ch 7 in the morning and pilots were told in flight the airline was done. It was a major airlne also. So if delta pilots strike they would be forced to cancel almost all flights and if strike lasts more then a few days they more then likely would have to shut there doors.

We have booked flights on Delta for 3 in mid Feb and for 11 in late June. If they go "belly up", I assume we'll be big losers as I don't see our credit card company refunding our money. The trip in June is the first trip for our 5 small grandchildren and their parents. I know we'll still make the trip but it may end up costing thousands more than planned if we have to make new flight arrangements. We are on a Delta co-share partner. Does anyone know if that would make any difference. It's Chautauqua Airlines non stop from Columbus to Orlando.

No, unforturnately Chautauqua Airlines is wholly owned subsdiary (sp?) of delta and would be done also.

That's not correct. Chautauqua Airlines is owned by Republic Airways Holdings. Chautauqua Airlines does business as AmericanConnection, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express.

Sorry your right. Not thinking today. But its a good met Chautauqa would cancel delta connection flights just because delta will have no passengers being sent to delta connection. Also it just wouldnt be profitable for Chautauqa.

The judge can give Delta everything they want, but if the pilots strike they stop flying. It's that simple. The pilots have already stated they will strike if the courts void their contract. Entirely different situation from the mechanics and flight attendants.

Right. Now keep in mind the courts can only give Delta so much. If an early is going to die its going to die, almost whatever you do. If pilots walk out, they are done simple as that. Just think of all the airlines that went under right after 9/11. Tons, courts didnt save all them..

To my knowledge, none of the major legacy airlines has stopped flying since 9/11. Lots have enetered bankruptcy, including United, USAir, Delta, NWA; American came close in 2003 and Continental hired bankruptcy counsel in 2003 also. But none of them have stopped flying. Sure some of the smaller charter airlines (like Southeast) have quit, but to my knowledge, none of the majors has.

They have almost all gotten huge loan guarantees from the Federal Govt tho in the wake of 9/11, and have chewed thru cash at an amazing rate.

We aren't flying until October and I am just now looking at airfare. We were considering flying Delta - tomorrow is 331 days out from our return flight so tomorrow is the first day I can buy airfare - but now I'm wondering if I should wait.

We used to fly ATA but they are ceasing all flights to/from Indy effective, I think, in January 2006.

If you have purchased tickets on Delta already and have been offered a full refund because of flight changes would you take it now? I have no idea what I should do. We have tickets for Delta in February and I bought them far enough in advance that I don't believe I will have any protection if the airline fails. I could at least get that money back even if I can't afford flights on other airlines at this point but I have spent other money on the vacation that I can't get back. What to do ???? I haven't seen any inexpensive flights for our vacation week that I can afford and I really doubt they will come down any. I don't know if I should just try to get my money back and hope for tickets I can afford to become available (although this is probably unlikely) or if I should just wait and see what happens (but if I do Delta could go under and I will lose the money I already have invested). This is making me crazy!!!!!

She told me that the Song pilots would not necessarily strike if the Delta pilots did as they were a "separate organization." I am not sure I believe this as I just assumed if the Delta pilots went on strike, the Song pilots would be out, too. Can someone clear this up for me? Thank you!

P.S. We are supposed to fly Song on Saturday...I just don't know what to think.

Lots of airline world wide have gone under since 9/11 and in the 90's. TWA went under but luckily was able to be bought by American before they totally shut there doors. Unforturnately there is no way anyone could buy Delta now. No one can afford to.

Song or Delta isn't going anywhere by Saturday. By federal law, after taking a strike vote there's a 30 day cooling off period before the strike can start.

TWA was taken over in January 2001, eight months before 9/11. It was in Chapter 11 at the time and the American takeover was its eventual exit strategy, much in the same way that USAir is exiting chapter 11 by being taken over by America West now.

That leaves us again, with none of the major legacy carriers ceasing operations since 9/11. This is part of the reason why it's so hard to make any money in the airline business: the government, courts and creditors keep propping up the Uniteds and USAirs, leading to Delta and NWA joining them in chapter 11, and weakening profitability in the sector overall.

So do I think Delta is gonna close their doors and stop flying this year? Not a chance! Too many powerful Georgia politicians are going to be screaming bloody murder if anything like that ever happened. In terms of size and reach, Delta is all over the place, and in some markets is the only game in town. Nobody is gonna let Delta shut down completely. Even in the unlikely event the pilots go on strike, there are plenty of unemployed pilots who would gladly cross those picket lines to be working in their chosen profession again. Plus there's the 30 day cooling off period. This is just not something we should be worried about!

In my own case, I am quite comfortable having my February flights booked on Delta/Song (since the 331 day mark), and will likely book Delta for a trip this summer, and plan to buy November '06 tix on them too.

Exactly. If nothing else, to allow Delta to fail while having prevented United and US Airways from doing so would show unjustifiable bias.
